Hotel Ancora in Palamos

We stayed here for four nights in the bay of La Fosca, just around the corner from Palamós. The hotel itself is a little dated, and the rooms can be quite noisy — we could clearly hear the TV from one side and bath activity from the other.

That said, breakfast was absolutely spectacular: a huge spread with every kind of breakfast food you could imagine, and plenty of it. The pool and the garden area around it were also very pleasant and well kept — a lovely place to relax.

La Fosca itself wasn’t really our scene — it’s a very family-oriented, beach-holiday kind of area and quite touristy overall. So while we didn’t fall in love with the location, that’s more about personal preference than the hotel itself. Overall, we found our stay relaxing, and the hotel did its part well enough, even if it could use a little update and better soundproofing. There is AC and it works perfectly.

Great location, 10 minute walk to the beach. The rooms are sparse and there is no AC (which is a deal breaker for the peak of summer), but you can cool off in the pool or the patio. Free parking is a great benefit. A solid 3 star hotel that is family owned. Excellent overall experience, despite minor drawbacks.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The dinner and breakfast at the onsite restaurant were quite good. Our room had a nice balcony with a distant view of the Med. (the property is not right on the water). The room decor is a bit dated, but super clean, and a very good deal for the reasonable price. We didn't find a lot of things to do in the town of La Fosca, but that's not the fault of the hotel. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel.

A basic slightly dated hotel that really delivers on service and quality of food. We stayed here only one night but were really impressed by the helpfulness and friendly hotel staff, and the dinner and breakfast we were served. It’s a 3* hotel but the service and food is 5*. The rooms are clean, a good size and the beds very comfy. There is a pool but we didn’t have time to use it. Very good value choice which we would highly recommend.

Very nice family-owned hotel located less than 10-minute walk from the majestic beach Cala de la Fosca. Staff was super nice and accommodating. Great breakfast. And if you opt for a room with terrace, fantastic view on the beach (for a drink and sunset)

A comfortable hotel situated three streets back from the beach. The staff were very friendly and they provide free towels for the beach and for their small outdoor pool. We didn't have much of a view from our balcony but this was more than made up for by the incredible spread at breakfast - it was fantastic and delicious.

This is a family run hotel with an excellent restaurant and attentive service . A reasonable priced wine list and delicious menu of the day proved to be excellent value . Breakfast dishes were top quality and the room was clean and comfortable. A pity the tennis court is in such poor condition.

Wonderful clean room in a spectacular location close to La Fosca Beach and walking distance into Palamos. We like that it is family owned with very friendly staff. The pool is another wonderful feature.

Great location for the beaches. Nice little holiday hotel with their own car park.
Rooms are a bot stuffy and don't smell very fresh, if you add in other guests smoking on adjacent balconies, it is not great.
Breakfast is very good with nice staff and a great choice.

On our many trips we have met many nice hosts. In this respect, the staff at Ancora belong to the absolute upper class. Whether at the reception, at dinner, at breakfast or even the cleaning staff, everyone was very nice, helpful and hard-working. Our room was a nice size with a nice view over the rooftops through some trees to the sea. We also had a nice balcony in front of our room. We didn't book a sea view, no idea if we got an upgrade. The bathroom was also big enough and everything worked well. The shower had a powerful jet of water, was nice and warm and also worked well. Everything was clean. Our room was cleaned daily. The bed linen and towels smelled fresh and pleasant. You could decide for yourself how often you get the towels changed. The internet wasn't very fast, but was very reliable and stable. There was a fairly large LED TV in our room, but we didn't use it. Despite our orthopedic problems, we were able to lie very comfortably in the beds. They were of very good quality. There was an elevator that worked well and reliably. Although we stayed at this hotel in the absolute low season at the beginning of March and the hotel was almost unoccupied, we found an excellent breakfast buffet. In addition to the complete normal standards, there were eggs, which were prepared accordingly on request, bacon, as well as very excellent regional Catalan cheese and sausage specialties, as well as regional sweets. The orange juice was obviously freshly squeezed. As soon as something ran low, it was refilled immediately. We really enjoyed the coffee from the capsule machine. In the evening you could eat in the hotel's own restaurant. The prices are at the usual local prices. The dishes we had, whether it was chicken, lamb shoulder, various fish dishes, even sea urchin or side dishes, all tasted very good. There is a large private free car park for the hotel in front of the hotel, both on the street and across the street. We felt very comfortable here and can recommend the hotel without reservation.
