Description

Mevlana Hotel is a modest 3-star boutique hotel located in Istanbul's historical Sultanahmet district. It operates within a 4-story building housing 20 rooms of various types, including Economy Double Basement, Standard Triple, Superior Double, and Family Quadruple rooms. The hotel offers standard amenities such as air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a restaurant, bar, and facilities for disabled guests. Guests can enjoy breakfast in the hotel's dining hall or on the terrace overlooking the sea and the Blue Mosque. While the hotel provides family rooms and luggage storage, some reviews note that the rooms tend to be small and in need of renovation. The front desk is staffed 24 hours, and services include laundry, currency exchange, car hire, and massage treatments. Despite some maintenance issues and thin walls reported by guests, Mevlana Hotel remains a budget-friendly option close to Istanbul's main attractions.

Location

Situated at Akbıyık Cd. No: 75 in Fatih, Istanbul, Mevlana Hotel is in the heart of Sultanahmet. It stands approximately 600 meters from Hagia Sophia and 650 meters from Topkapi Palace. The Grand Bazaar is about 1.5 kilometers away, with the Basilica Cistern 700 meters from the hotel. The sea is just 255 meters away, offering guests easy access to waterfront walks. The hotel is 14 kilometers from Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST). Nearby dining options include the highly rated Blue House Rooftop restaurant at 125 meters and Balıkçı Sabahattin at 140 meters. Public transportation such as the tram is a 13-15 minute walk, providing convenient access to other parts of Istanbul.

Tips

  • If you are sensitive to noise, avoid rooms on the 4th floor above the restaurant or street-facing rooms; earplugs are recommended.
  • Breakfast is better enjoyed on the terrace for the views, but expect a limited selection and bring snacks if needed.
  • Since the hotel shows signs of wear, inspect your room upon arrival and request a different room if maintenance issues are present.

I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. The room was extremely small and looked nothing like the photos advertised online. Parts of the ceiling plaster had fallen down, and the shower head had almost no water pressure when switched to hot water. I was placed on the fourth floor and, unfortunately, directly above me was the restaurant. In the mornings it served breakfast, and in the evenings it turned into a cocktail bar. The noise was unbearable — chairs and tables constantly being dragged around and overall no sense of sound control. It was impossible to relax or sleep properly. The only positive aspects were the location, which was conveniently close to major attractions, and the breakfast buffet, which was decent but lacked variety. Overall, I would not stay here again and cannot recommend it.

I stayed at this property for 5 nights recently and really liked how authentic and "local" it felt. It couldn't be in a better location (within 10 minutes stroll from the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque). The room itself was compact but relatively well equipped, enough for a solo traveller. Breakfast, although free as part of the room rate, isn't worth having. Really poor selection and staff were slow to top up. Found staff to be a bit surly too, not rude but not particularly hospitable either. I stayed on the 4th floor and it was extremely noisy. Next to no soundproofing, and being directly below the restaurant meant you heard everything until 2-3am most nights. Bring earplugs if you're in a 4th floor room! Overall, it's a disappointing hotel. A shame as there is so much potential, and it is a locally owned property. I only gave it 3 stars for the location. If they improve their breakfast offerings, soundproof their rooms and are warmer/friendlier to paying guests; the sky is the limit. For now, I'd recommend anyone coming to Istanbul and wanting to stay in Sultanhamet to look elsewhere.

Close to the attractions, but the room equipment and facilities are old and the service is average

The service at the front desk was good, smiling service, but at 11 o'clock in the morning, I was sleeping and someone knocked on the door. I asked what was going on in English. It was obvious that the people outside knew that there was someone inside. Shockingly, the next second, the people outside used the room card to open the door for me. I was so panicked about the door. It should be the cleaning staff but she didn't speak English. She looked into the room and closed the door. I had already checked that the check-out time was twelve o'clock. I don't understand why the cleaning staff knew there was someone in the room. Opened my door without asking permission. This was the worst experience I had in Turkey. Although the location of this hotel is good, the price is high and not worth the price. So this hotel is still available when other hotels are fully booked. Room

The hotel is in a great spot. We booked two rooms, but one of the bathroom doors was broken, and we were not informed before we checked in. Other than that, the stay was good. The staff let us check out an hour late and even stored our luggage after we checked out.Overall a good value for money.

Great hotel, great location, breakfasts (buffet) with a view of the Bosphorus, friendly staff, daily cleaning. Yes, some things in the room are "tired", but these are such trifles in the general background. We lived on the 4th floor with a view of the city and even the Blue Mosque. We arrived at the end of October, the weather was comfortable, there are definitely no complaints about the hotel.

Had a full body massage- mix - anti stress and medical for 50 minutes £47. It was well worth it. Massage was fantastic. I need this every day 😇.
I would definitely recommend it.
Thank you.

Great location however an average outdated room, the wallpapers were peeling off the wall. We got a room on the ground floor next to the reception desk and every morning and night we got woken up by people chatting in the hallway. Either the receptionist was on the phone or chatting to some guests it was very loud and constant. The worst was smelling cigarette smoke from the outside because the receptionist was smoking right by the automatic doors outside. Or maybe he didn't even bother going out cause our room stank like an ashtray. The walls in the hotel are incredibly thing you can hear all sorts of sounds from everywhere. I would recommend looking for another hotel though maybe it would have been a lot better on the floor higher up, I won't know now.

Every time I go to Istanbul, I always choose Mevlana Hotel Bazaar. The services are very good, high quality and the staff is very friendly, especially the host, Fatih. I even recommended the hotel to some friends for their vacation in Istanbul. I will always come back to Mevlana Hotel Bazaar, for sure, every time I will go to Istanbul! ❤️
