Great hotel with good facilities and large rooms. a huge pool as well as sauna and steam bath, the receptionist Ayberk was very friendly and helpful, I recommend this place

I recently stayed at the Sheraton Grand Istanbul Ataşehir and unfortunately my experience was far below Marriott standards.
1. Serious hygiene issues at breakfast – resulted in food poisoning
I became severely ill for two days with what was clearly food poisoning, and the only possible source was the breakfast buffet.
The hygiene practices were shocking: food left uncovered, improper temperature control, and a general lack of any visible HACCP-standard procedures.
The photos I attached speak for themselves — including ingredients being prepared directly from supermarket packaging (such as mushrooms being cut straight from a plastic container, unwashed and uncleaned).
This level of food handling in a 5-star hotel is extremely concerning.
2. Misleading and unacceptable billing at the bar + refusal to refund
On my last evening, I ordered a simple Campari Spritz. Instead of charging the standard cocktail price, the hotel manually billed the components separately (multiple Campari charges + multiple sparkling wine charges) because “the cocktail does not exist in their system.”
This was never communicated to me before serving.
The result? Nearly 100 USD for three basic cocktails — something I would never have ordered had they informed me.
When I questioned the bill, the staff refused to give me a proper receipt and refused any refund, even though they acknowledged that the cocktail wasn’t in their POS system. This is not transparent, not professional, and not acceptable for a Marriott property.
3. Gym in very poor condition
The fitness center has no water, no cups, and several machines that are clearly damaged or poorly maintained. Definitely not up to Sheraton standards.

My stay was overshadowed by issues that should simply never happen in a 5-star hotel: unsafe food handling, lack of hygiene, misleading billing, refusal to provide receipts, and neglected facilities.
This property does not reflect Marriott’s quality or reliability, and I sincerely hope management will take immediate corrective action.

I am a business traveler having a meeting in this area. Hence, the hotel suits me very much. If you are tourist, this area (Atasehir) does not fit as it is quite far from tourist attractions in Istanbul.

Wonderful hotel. The service level is high - staff want to help you, and respond quickly to your needs.
Rooms are comfortable, very clean. Great beds. Quiet. Only thing that could be improved is better functioning AC (system worked, but would constantly turn off e.g., overnight).
Gym / pool / spa are world class for a hotel.

had a wonderful stay at the Engrand Hotel in Istanbul!
The staff were extremely kind, helpful, and professional they really made me feel welcome. The room was very nice and comfortable, and I was receive a free upgrade from the Golden Member program Marriot Bonvoy to a better room, which I really appreciated.
Everything was clean, well maintained, and the service was excellent. I was very satisfied with my stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone visiting Istanbul.

This hotel does not have proper in-room AC, despite advertising as if they do. What they actually have is a central cooling system controlled by the hotel, and it never cooled my room below 23.5°C.
Even when I set the thermostat to 18°C, the system kept shutting itself off. The room was constantly warm and uncomfortable. I specifically choose five-star hotels because I like to sleep in a cold room and expect proper air conditioning, this was one of my main reasons for booking here.
When I complained, staff first tried to make excuses, but eventually admitted that the central cooling system simply isn’t strong enough to cool the rooms properly.
This is misleading advertising. Be aware: if you expect real AC, you won’t get it here.

The hotel is surrounded by numerous shopping malls. One of them, which I believe is Watergarden Istanbul, features a fantastic musical fountain and fire show that runs every hour on the hour after 8 PM, lasting for about three songs. It's quite a sight to behold. Also, across from Metropol Mall, there's a live shooting range which is quite affordable if you're interested. However, I wouldn't recommend buying luxury handbags in Istanbul. Even with the tax refund, they often end up being more expensive than in China, and the variety isn't particularly extensive. 😧

I had a great stay at this hotel during my trip to Turkey for nose surgery. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and they made sure I was comfortable throughout. Front desk staff are always ready to help you. I was especially touched by the flowers they sent to wish me a speedy recovery. The location was perfect for shopping and sightseeing. Highly recommended!
