Didn't know if it was a closet or a room, surprisingly a bed and bathroom was there so I guess it was a room. Room to small, not even a chair could fit. I didnt bother looking in the tiny...sorry mini fridge. Place is for you if looking for small and to the point room but if you're not.... theres a possibility you will!!!!!! Had to shimmy between the bed and wall to get to other side of the bed SMH.

It's basically down the block from the train station so it's very convenient but the room is extremely small, smaller than the closet

Way too small room with a great bed.
Broken coffee maker.
Shower neefs upgrading, water trap comes loose when stepped on, replace shower curtain with a glass door.

It’s called Essence now. Rooms are small but what hotel room in New York City is large?? They are all small unless you pay way more. It’s clean and safe, and the staff are very friendly. The location is excellent. Very close to everything; restaurants, bars, subway, Barclays, and shopping.

Pro- good bars & restaurants close by, close to the union r and Atlantic terminal, C. O. Bigelow soaps. Cons- room is ridiculously tiny, shower is a half sized afterthought, can’t say I’ll be back.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was extremely small (double bed in the corner and had to open suitcases on the bed as there was no room to do so on the bedroom floor) but this isn’t a major deal to me. The worst parts were dirty bedsheets with stains, cigarette burns and the whole place smelled like cigarette smoke. The bathroom had a broken toilet that ran water loudly all night and there was mould in the shower plus it looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. Towels were also dirty and I don’t think the towels or bedding had been washed in quite some time. I understand that you get what you pay for and if it is just a place to sleep for the night it isn’t so bad but I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Based on other reviews I also think I am one of the lucky ones as people have had worse experiences here than me.
If you are thinking of staying here and all of these things don’t bother you then I would just recommend to bring a spare towel, shoes for the shower and something to cover the bed with.
If the owners ever see this please just clean the place up a little. If there were washed towels and bedding, and the shower was cleaned it would make a huge difference. The location is great and this hotel could be something good if it was just cared for and cleaned up a little.

The hotel looks really nice from the outside and by the reception, but once you get inside it’s so dirty!!
The elevator was dirty, the hallway to the room and all smelling like cigarettes! Once I got inside the room the smell was even stronger, had to open to window asap.
Then I went to the bathroom and wished the shower was cleaner, the curtains should be a new plastic one. Also, only 1 towel inside and it was kinda wet, it didn’t smell so I hope it was just from air drying.
They clean the places you can see, under the bed was disgusting. So so dusty and had a water bootle from the last guest. I reached over the top of the bed to charge my phone and found eyelashes on the floor. The mattress is so bad, my back is killing me. One side was okay, but the other side I would fall into a hole. And I wiped the wall by the bed cause it was so dirty, had makeup around and something else.
I had to leave the window open for a few hours for the smell to go and went to a store near by to by spray sanitizer to clean the bed and feel more safe (even drenched the towel in that so I could use it). I actually got my own pillow case cause I saw people saying it was a little dirty and I felt more comfortable.

Based on some of the reviews I felt like I was going to stay at an ISIS concentration camp. It wasn't great but it wasn't awful for the price. If they cleaned the hotel up better and used fresh clean sheets and towels this place would be a great choice for everyone. People in the hotel were normal travellers, I expected crack heads. Literally just use non stained sheets and detail clean after guests and this place would be perfect. Room is small but if you plan to day trip around New York all day that shouldn't be an issue.... As I said, just needs to be cleaner and erase the cig smell permanently embedded into the hotel. For my Australian travellers, this is basically just a non-clean rural motel.

Would not recommend but I guess that is what you can expect when NY is so expensive. Bed was horrible and makes so much noise! No towels in the room and when I requested one I got one old gray and one white towel, one of which smelled like the were in a dumpster. TV doesn’t work. Room is small you only have enough space to walk around the bed. Places reeks of cigarette. Really might be better off staying at a motel. They were flexible for late check in which is a positive.

Food was awesome loved the Wiley oysters omg so good. But horrible when my bill came it was only cash n I had to leave my date to go look for a atm. Who walks around with like $150 in cash now a days. Was alittle embarrassed.

Happy hour at its best. $5 drafts and $1.25 oysters. Clams are always $12 for a dozen. Tonight's specialty was Beau Soleil from New Brunswick. Super fresh seafood. Try the mussels and the steamers. Bar staff was super friendly too. Only thing that could make his place better is if it were on the ocean and there was live music in the evening. This was my first time, but I will be back.

Great place for fresh seafood. Love their clam po boy, which is overloaded with yummy fried clams. They make very good cocktails. And of course, oysters. They have a great selection and if you get their for happy hour great prices.

Unexpected in a great way!! First time here and came in on a whim. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Drinks were perfectly balanced...(Yes, there are some places that mess up a basic vodka & cranberry). We ordered several items off the menu and we were not disappointed. The littleneck clams tasted fresh and clean, the shrimp cocktail was excellent. For me the star was the clam roll...it tasted amazing and was stuffed full. I highly recommend it! Also the crab cake was light and flavorful. Then dessert came...YUM...these little donuts, made fresh, hot soft inside, crispy outside, with a Jameson infused whipped cream. I enjoyed the entire experience and will be visiting again bringing friends & family. I hope my next experience will be as great as my first, for my expectations are quite high now, so many places fall off because the quality goes down. Keep up the great work to the front and back of house.
