Reviews
I was on business in Burgas and decides to give me some holiday feeling between sundown and sun-up. So I booked a sea-view and checked in after dark on TUE. As a fact I was tired by driving and tense business meeting so I just enjoed a shower and fresh bedline,
The motning compenstated my frugal night with seaview tha sharged me for the day with smell of the sea and seagulls' calls on the side. The staff was surprisigly polite and forthcoming so I had a fine breakfast too.
The evening was the last night before driving to SOf so I took my time enjoying extended dinner with a red wine to fit the meats and the season. Good restaurant, good cuisine and staffers ready to communicate and shoot a small breeze.
It the morning I visited the Spa and got full body massage. It was great - carried proffesionally and in details.
After relaxing in the the relax zone (it is superb) I said g'bay to the sea and the staffers and put a note in my planner: try the Grand Hotel in the summer time.
Because of the delayed check-in, we requested a late check-out as compensation, but the receptionist, Sasha, refused, saying the hotel was fully booked on Sunday, 23 November. I checked availability online, and it was not fully booked.
The SPA center is nice and clean, and the pools and saunas are very good. However, there is a lack of towels (you have to bring them from your room) and not enough loungers for relaxation. We booked a paid massage, which I truly recommend.
The restaurant is nice, and the food is tasty, with a variety of delicious dishes. You can stay and eat there throughout the day, as there are no limitations. The ridiculous part is that although we paid for Ultra All-Inclusive, not all drinks were free—Pepsi was included, but not Coca-Cola; Jim Beam was free, but Jägermeister was paid.
In conclusion, the hotel itself is good, with a mediocre SPA, nice and tasty food, restricted drink options, very arrogant front-desk staff, and kind staff in the restaurant.
At first, I was impressed by the panoramic elevator with views of the pool and sea — it went directly from my room to the beach, which was perfect. Sadly, I could use it only once, as it was broken for the rest of the week, and most staff ignored my requests to fix it.
Overall, the hotel has a great location and some good staff, but the service and behavior I experienced fall far below what a 5-star standard should be.
The room was clean, properly stocked, the food great and varied. The water in the pool was a little cold, I preferred the seawater instead, the sun-beds were so comfortable 😍
I loved the spa area, so relaxing and nice, it made our vacation even better. All in all, I’d recommend this hotel and I’d come back to it with pleasure. Congrats for your dedication!
Let’s start with the positives.
The food was absolutely fantastic—easily the highlight of the entire stay. Every meal was flavorful, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully prepared. The spa facilities were decent, and the gym was actually quite impressive for a hotel—well-equipped and spacious.
However, the charm ends there.
The room setup was shockingly poor. There were no coat hooks or hangers, nowhere to place shoes, and no desk or console beneath the TV—just a single armchair and a minimalist table barely big enough to hold two glasses. The balcony lacked even a basic towel rack. For a hotel that operates year-round and offers spa services, you'd expect better provisions. Instead, we found ourselves returning from the spa each day with wet towels and no replacements.
We asked at the spa for fresh towels, only to be told to contact the front desk—who then informed us they had none available. Over our entire stay, no one came to refresh the towels, take out the trash, or provide the additional hangers we requested on day one.
Customer service at the reception was abysmal. One staff member (as I remember he was named Kamen) seemed more focused on passing responsibility than resolving issues. When pressed for assistance, his response was that his job ended with "passing on the message"—a message, it turns out, that was never delivered. It was only after multiple calls and escalating the issue that housekeeping eventually showed up, apparently alerted directly by the hotel manager, not reception.
In a fully booked five-star hotel, the absence of an on-duty manager to handle escalations is simply unacceptable. This lack of accountability meant we were often bounced between departments with no resolution. We even tried to inquire about group fitness classes, only to be shuffled back and forth between the fitness reception and the main hotel reception—eventually giving up due to the confusion and lack of coordination.
To add to the frustration, we met other guests whose check-in was delayed by two hours because their room hadn’t been cleaned. Our own bed sheets were mismatched, and overall, there seemed to be a serious shortage of linen and basic amenities.
To summarize, while the culinary experience and gym facilities were memorable, the room conditions and service quality were far below expectations. The lack of attention to detail, poor communication, and overall disregard for guest comfort made the stay feel more like a budget experience rather than the premium hospitality one would expect from a five-star establishment.
But there is still room for improvement:
- As many other pointed out, the WiFi in the room was terrible.Worse then any other hotel I have been
- Around the sunbeds outside( not the ones near the pool, but the ones near the sea) is full of ants and some tiny flies that bite us all the time and now ,few days later i'm still covered in very itchy pimples on the legs and hands.
Overall a great experience and I can't wait to come again.
3 things caught my attention:
1) Extremely friendly staff, especially the hostess and the cook were trying their best to force feed us.
2) Good infastracture and amenities, but if you are naturalist the sea is 30 meters away.
3) Busy hotel, high season i guess. we were the 9th to 16th July.
have to go around the hotel over a very bad, steep road ( for 5 stars hotel this sounds more than retarded ). Big variety of food but honestly I have big doubts that the food is fresh except the deserts. For some people it is allowed to park in front of the hotel, for others it is not. Considering the fact that I am travelling with a person who is having problems with the walking it is kind of bad impression to ask me to park further from the hotel because you want only luxury cars on the front. Also the people on the reception are having buffer overflow issues when asked a little bit more non-standard question. Overall, if they are giving stars for stupidity it is 10 stars hotel, otherwise not more than 3.
In the pictures, it does appear to have everything, the pool, the beach, the food, the balcony, the view, the gym, and the spa. So it seems to check all the boxes for a fantastic experience. We booked a week of stay after a wedding thinking we will be having a great stay. The only reason why we have not left early is that we cannot get a refund.
Let me explain why:
Overall service: You cannot obtain a decent service here if you don't speak the local languages. I speak English. The staff, some of them tried very hard, and most of them are barely trying. We tried booking a gym class, but maybe it's lost in translation, the teacher never showed up and then we were to blame.
THE ROOM:
It's a decent size and the view was good. We got a sea view room. The carpet is very old, the finishes are very poor. The facets spill water if you turn on to the fullest. The soap is never refilled. Our robes sometimes disappeared. Our fresh towels have stains on them. They don't change your cups unless you put them on the floor. They might not clean your room if you forget to call reception. That melted mini bar chocolate from a different review is still there.
THE FOOD:
The price is very good, lunch is 30 Lev, Dinner I think it's around 40? But the quality of food is not great if you are used to regular western standards. I can find one out of the 10 to fill my belly with. The breakfast poached egg guy is always very polite, but the poached egg was so poorly poached. It's very frustrating, I end up eating toast and jam because most of the items were just meh...
For dinner as well, I usually can find 1 or 2 items that are decent. Try to stick with Balkan food like grilled vegetables, those are usually very good because they make Balkan food the best. I really wish they provide the Balkan bread in the morning rather than trying to be western. Some of the ham tasted sour, like spoiled, I think they left it there for too long. But so far I have not gotten food poisoning, so I am good.
THE SPA:
I think the spa is the best part of the hotel. It has 2 dry saunas, and 2 wet saunas,s and quite nice. You will pay €15 in some hotels just to use such facilities. The people who use it are not so nice, no one rinses themselves ( except us) before they enter the pool. Tho that's not somethi
ng the hotel can control.
THE GYM:
Also, the equipment is the state of the arts! It's not a busy gym, just the class was very poorly managed. If you don't speak the language, good luck with trying to attend one. The gym staff and the teacher barely communicates, and the class teacher was 40 mins late for the class that we booked. Needless to say, we cannot go because another class was supposed to start. I did enjoy some of these protein snacks at the gym. They have a lot of selections.
The gym bathroom has this poop smell and often looks like someone wore shoes and stepped on the toilet seats. I would avoid going to that gym restroom if I can.
LOCATION:
The hotel is not exactly on Sunny beach, which can be a good thing if you want to stay away from the noise. But coming back from Sunny Beach is always a struggle. The taxi drivers are often trying to scam us ( My hubby speaks Bulgarian), they obviously refuse to use the meter. There isn't Uber, so you end up either having to walk back ( which is about 1+ hour walk but frankly pleasant beach walk) or take the bus that doesn't run frequently to avoid Taxi scamming.
All in all, I gave a 2 star because I truly think that the hotel staffs are nice people. They are trying their best. I do think the hotel management can improve to make it up to standard. Lower your expectation to avoid disappointment.
Lastly. NO internet in our room ( only 1 bar wifi if you glue to the front door). The internet in lobby are okay but not stable enough for business call.

Young staff, willing to help as much as they can, but only receptionists speak English well.
The food was exceptional, especially sweets, but after a couple of days, it started to feel repetitive. The big minus was if you miss any meal for even two minutes out of the schedule, staff will lock the bufee door and turn off the lights, making you very nervous and putting a pressure on you not to miss a meal. So for example, if you have breakfast at 9.30 AM, you already need to have lunch from 12.00 to 2PM, and if you are not hungry in that period, you will need to wait till 6PM for dinner, or buy the food from their paid bar.
The first room that we got was not as near as we booked (sea was barely visible, and we wanted a terrace with a sea view), so they gave us a better room with a beautiful view and a big terrace. The main complaint regarding the room was the smell. It smelled like mauld all the time even if we had all the doors open to ventilate.
All in all, we had a lovely time, and our kid really enjoyed every day's activities, especially disco for kids with hotel's animators. The hotel definitely needs improvement but i still recommend it.
We are a family of SIX visiting for the second time, (as big family’s will know we do struggle to find hotel rooms big enough to cater for us) the rooms available for big family’s do not disappoint. All rooms are supplied with a washer which really helps when having children.
There is also on site :
Doctor
Shop spa (I would recommend the electric massage)
Restaurant
Pool bar
Plenty of games and activities for all ages incl. adults
Also the beach is 1 minute walk out of the bottom gate. All gates are secured with security or key card passes.
We had a panoramic see view room this time it was absolutely amazing.
All staff no matter the role are very welcoming and helpful.
The pools are always kept to a very clean standard, there is 3 different sizes to cater for all ages including water slides.
The reception staff and pool bar staff have been very helpful and friendly especially with the little ones.
If you are thinking about visiting then DO NOT HESITATE !!!
There is a mini-disco every evening. Even if it is repeated, the children do not mind.
Clean rooms, washing machine, microwave oven, AC, Refrigerator, Boiler, drinking water at the sink.
The food is very good and diverse, the pool is clean and well maintained and the tubes are an attraction for children.
It is the second time we come here and everything seemed very good to us. The beach is not equipped, but it didn't bother us.
What needs to be improved is the wifi. It didn't work at all. There is clearly a need for new equipment, routers that allow more connections.
The hotel was on the beach and the sea was lovely.
At first we thought it was a bit in the middle of nowhere but we then found the resort high street (a 15/20 min walk) and that was fine. The restaurants by the hotel were fine anyway. Especially Luxor - highly recommend.
The restaurant at the hotel (the Taste) was lovely too.
Didn’t do the buffet as we were self catering, so can’t say about that.
The supermarket was reasonably priced considering it was in the hotel.
A big shout out to Danial on reception for sorting our late checkout for us. He worked tirelessly to move things around so we could extend the stay on the last day. A great big thank you to him! I had asked another person on reception who wasn’t as helpful, so definitely ask Danial for help, as he’s the best.
All in all it was a lovely holiday and we had a great time. I’d recommend the hotel to anyone looking to stay in St Vlas.
The only negative is maybe the inside of the apartments which is dated. Dated but clean and functional. Everything is well maintained.
The hotel management is clearly doing well as everything runs like a clock. Well done.
The staff was professional and very polite. They cleaned our apartment and changed towels everyday.
The restaurant is partly open and positioned in a nice garden. Very clean tables and buffet. The food was fresh and very delicious.
The animation was funny and motivating to chill.
Thank you, Premier Fort! We are coming back for next holiday this season!
