Reviews
Reason: We were staying as a family with children and I booked half a month in advance, specifically requesting a twin room. However, during check-in, I was told that whether I'd get a twin room would depend on availability on the day. This is the first time I've ever encountered such a response; previously, when I checked in elsewhere, requests were noted during booking or confirmed via phone. If a twin room couldn't be provided, it would have been helpful to know in advance, as it's really inconvenient when traveling with kids.
The front desk staff's response was: "Then go stay at another hotel... Or we can refund your money..." I was speechless; it felt like they were just giving up.
Even though I live in Shanghai, it's a huge city, and this hotel is quite a distance from my home. If they couldn't accommodate my request, a heads-up via phone or email would have been appreciated.
During our stay, another guest was asking a question at the concierge, and the first staff member's response was also perfunctory, almost rude. I thought that even though this five-star hotel is a bit old, I was paying for the service, but the service was terrible. The same front desk staff member who checked me in this time was also the one who checked me in on my first visit and even asked me for a good review. This time, *he he*...
Environment: The river view suite offers an excellent view of the Lupu Bridge and Xuhui濱江 (Xuhui Riverside) across the Huangpu River. You can also see the 'Lujiazui trio' (the three iconic skyscrapers), making for a wide-open vista.
Service: 1. The service response was quick. Although the bathtub not draining properly caused a slight flaw in the overall check-in experience, they ultimately resolved the issue well and offered appropriate compensation.
2. The breakfast selection was extensive, and the chef clearly has high standards for the quality of the food served. The staff were also very prompt in clearing and cleaning tables. Even with many people, everything was well-organized.
3. The executive lounge not only offered soft drinks and beer but also provided full bottles of chilled white wine, which was a nice touch. The lounge overlooks the Huangpu River, and the view is fantastic.
Service: Due to the time difference, and being worried my parents might encounter issues during check-in, I contacted the sales representative, Jennie, in advance. She was incredibly patient and meticulous throughout, answering all my questions, often even on weekend evenings. We had to adjust the check-in date and dinner choice, and she helped communicate everything immediately and seamlessly. A huge shoutout and thank you to Jennie here!
My parents mentioned that the staff in other departments, from the front desk to the restaurant, were all polite and professional, especially friendly towards older guests. Check-in was smooth, and since it wasn't busy, they even got a slightly extended check-out time.
Ambiance: My parents loved it! The room was spacious and comfortable, and fortunately, they were upgraded to a river view, which made it even more open and expansive.
Dining: In the end, my parents chose the Western buffet. They enjoyed an amazing variety of seafood – they ate so much they 'had to be wheeled in and out' (a playful way of saying they ate until they were stuffed!) even at 70 years old 😂.
The surrounding scenery is also beautiful, perfect for a leisurely stroll after dinner.
When I used to work in Shanghai, I'd occasionally come here for international conferences, so it's suitable for various scenarios and different types of guests.
Cleanliness: The hotel was relatively clean.
Amenities: The facilities were extensive, with a pool, gym, and plenty of equipment.
On another note, the package mentioned a weekend upgrade to a river-view room subject to availability. When checking in, the front desk didn't mention anything about upgrading the room. When I proactively asked, they said there was a king-size bed room available, but no twin room. Considering I was with a child, I decided against it. I then asked if a meal could be complimentary, and the front desk's response implied that the package was already very cheap and that room upgrades weren't mandatory... While their point might be valid, couldn't they have phrased it differently? It's not like I bought it from them directly.
