Central Hotel Shanghai in Shanghai

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Central Hotel Shanghai and would happily stay here again.

The rooms are exceptionally spacious, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. We were lucky to have a fantastic view of the Shanghai skyline, especially at night.

Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of both Chinese and Western dishes. Everything was fresh and there was something for every taste.

The Executive Lounge was one of the highlights of our stay. The complimentary drinks and snacks made it a perfect place to relax after a busy day exploring the city. I highly recommend booking a room with lounge access.

The staff were consistently friendly and helpful. During our stay, I needed to send several packages, and the team went above and beyond to assist me with the shipping process. Their kindness and patience were greatly appreciated.

The location is another major advantage. It’s within walking distance of Nanjing Road, The Bund, restaurants, shopping, and public transportation, making it an excellent base for exploring Shanghai.

Overall, this hotel offers outstanding value with spacious rooms, excellent service, delicious breakfast, a fantastic lounge, and a perfect location. We would definitely choose Grand Central Hotel again on our next visit to Shanghai.

Solid stay with plenty of space for the family!

We had a very comfortable stay at the Grand Central Hotel. The standout feature for us was definitely the room size—it was incredibly spacious, making it very easy to request and fit an extra bed without feeling cramped at all.

The breakfast was okayish—decent enough to start the day, though nothing particularly memorable compared to some of the top-tier international luxury chains in China. Overall, it’s a reliable, spacious option for a stay, though service warmth can be a bit hit-or-miss depending on what you're used to

I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The room was clean, spacious, and well-designed, with a separate bathtub, shower, and toilet, which added to the overall comfort and convenience.
The service staff were consistently friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. I would also like to especially commend the concierge team, who were exceptionally helpful in assisting with my Taobao deliveries as well as food deliveries. Their support really made my stay hassle-free.
Overall, a great stay and I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Excellent hotel, quite spacious rooms, comfortable bed, walk-in shower. Breakfast is extensive with good Western and Asian options.
Very close to major shopping streets and restaurants
Note: the only very small negative is they don’t have a proper bar area for drinks, only a very limited selection in the lobby area and when we tried it, what they did serve wasn’t particularly good. However – don’t sit in the hotel get out and explore. There’s so much to see and do in the area in the way of food and drink and some very interesting jazz bars.

The hotel's location is great, right on Nanjing Road, which was perfect for taking the kids out to play. I won't even mention the 60 yuan parking fee we had to pay ourselves, but the cleanliness truly doesn't meet the standards of a state-owned four-star hotel. There were urine stains on the toilet that weren't even wiped clean – please see the pictures. The second one is after I tried to clean it myself! For 1299, only the location is justifiable.

The room was decent, and having a desk was very convenient for my business trip. Its central location made it easy to get around, and the area was bustling at night. The room amenities were complete, and the service was friendly. Everything was just fine.

The hotel is located at a superb spot whereby it’s just minutes walk away from the famous Nanjing Road and if you are adventurous enough walkable all the way to The Bund! There’s also lots of eateries around and you can never go hungry here. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful especially towards non-chinese speaking tourists like me 😂. The interior though a little dated, but not a deal breaker as we are out majority of the time anyway.

One of the best luxury hotels I have stayed. Great value for the luxury provided. Great amenities and very clean and well kept room. The bedding quality was excellent and so the quality of sleep. Everything in the room had a quality of luxury around it. It mixed traditional feel in the room and modern technology very well. Our requests were delivered using a robot! The location was excellent for first time visitors, with great connectivity to airports and train stations, all good places to eat nearby. Note that they require a deposit to be paid when you arrive even for pre-booked reservations. Highly recommended.

The bathroom amenities were quite stingy. The 27ml shower gel was just enough for one person, let alone a couple or someone with a child. And 27ml of shampoo isn't even enough for long hair, though it might be okay for short hair. It really doesn't match the price of the room. The staff in the lobby were always rushing around and almost bumped into people; generally, they didn't even greet guests. Check-out wasn't quick, which was a real waste of time. And there's no need to constantly ask if we've eaten the peanuts or had the drinks. If we eat or drink something, we'll naturally pay for it. With such an expensive room rate, we wouldn't bother with such small economies.
