Description

The Westin Grand Munich is a five-star hotel established in 1972 and renovated in 2001, offering a range of room types from Deluxe Double rooms to 2 Bedrooms Sky Quadruple Club Suites. Guests will find a variety of services including a spa and wellness centre with a pool, sauna, massage, solarium, and a fitness centre. The hotel also features a restaurant with buffet options, a bar, and a terrace. Rooms are equipped with air conditioning, heating, soundproofing, and safety features like fire extinguishers and safety deposit boxes. The hotel offers free parking and bike rentals, as well as a concierge service and 24-hour security. While some reviews note the interior feels dated, many highlight the comfortable beds, cleanliness, and attentive staff. Breakfast is highly praised for quality and variety. The hotel allows pets on request and accommodates families, with additional fees applicable for children. Expect a large, well-equipped hotel with comprehensive facilities, located slightly outside Munich's city center but well connected by public transport.

Location

The Westin Grand Munich is located at Arabellastraße 6, about 26 km from Munich Airport (Franz Josef Strauss). It is situated in the Arabellapark neighborhood, approximately a 3 to 5 minute walk from the nearest U-Bahn (subway) station, which provides easy access to the city center and other parts of Munich. Nearby dining options include Restaurant ZEN (34 meters), Ente vom Lehel (59 meters), and Föhn Bistro (189 meters). The hotel is close to supermarkets and bakeries, making it convenient for guests who prefer self-catering. While the hotel is a bit outside the main nightlife and busy downtown areas, this location suits travelers seeking quieter surroundings with quick public transit connections to central Munich.

Tips

  • If you are sensitive to temperature, bring a personal fan or request window opening options due to reported air conditioning issues.
  • Use the nearby subway station to reach central Munich quickly, as the hotel is outside the main downtown area.

A bit outdated interior but very comfy beds and clean

My wife and I stayed at this hotel, booked by a friend, and it completely exceeded our expectations! We usually stay at a nearby four-star hotel when we come to Munich, but it was fully booked this time, so our friend recommended this five-star. The cost wasn't much more than the four-star, but the upgrade in quality was well worth the slight price difference. We were extremely satisfied!

Hotel staff were friendly and the hotel overall was absolutely okay! Good breakfast.

As a Marriott Bonvoy member, my expectations are naturally shaped by the consistently high standards of the brand. Choosing Marriott, and especially Westin, usually means attention to detail, care for the guest, and a certain level of excellence — and I must say that this stay fully confirmed it.

From the very first moment, the entire staff was exceptional. The check-in experience was warm and professional, and every interaction with the reception team was marked by genuine kindness and attentiveness. I was pleasantly surprised to meet several Italian trainees, all of them extremely polite, well-mannered, and clearly well trained — a real credit to the hotel.

What impressed me most was the overall atmosphere created by the staff. Many of them were working in a country that is not their own, yet they managed to convey a remarkably warm and welcoming attitude. There was a small misunderstanding at the beginning of my stay, which was handled immediately and in an exemplary manner, turning a potential issue into a demonstration of true professionalism.

The breakfast was simply outstanding — rich, varied, and of excellent quality. Truly a “mega” breakfast, offering everything one could wish for. The lounge area is also very pleasant, elegant, and well maintained, making it a lovely place to relax.

If I were to mention a minor area for improvement, it would be the spa. The water temperature felt slightly cool, and the spa area could benefit from better organization. That said, these are aspects that can certainly be refined over time and do not detract significantly from the overall experience.

What truly made the difference, however, was the human factor. From the receptionists to the concierge, from greetings in the hallways to daily interactions, every member of staff was genuinely kind and attentive. I was always greeted, acknowledged, and treated with respect. Over the course of four days, I truly felt at home — welcomed, recognized, and valued as a guest. It is a wonderful feeling, and not something to be taken for granted.

My sincere compliments to the entire team. I very much hope to return soon and relive this beautiful experience. I could not leave without sharing such a positive and heartfelt review.

A big hug,
Isabella

Check-in staff are not professional or bright. Room service at night is not Westin quality and lack basics. Rooms are dated but well insulated. SPA is 3 star hotel quality. In general the rooms are dated but well built. What lacks here is service and Westin quality. I would call it a stable 3 star or a lower end 4 star hotel.

The location is a bit outside the city center but there is a subway station a 5 minute walk away. It’s a solid choice at which to stay, but a few things troubled me. I choose Westin because of its consistent “Heavenly“ comfort bedding. While the mattress was comfortable, the pillows were not standard Westin issue and they were very uncomfortable, not firm or supportive enough. (And I’m not that picky about pillows!) When I asked if Housekeeping had any other types of pillows available, I was first told yes, but ultimately told no. Consequently, i did not sleep well throughout my stay. The Westin Club evening food is not nice canapes and hors d’oeuvres, but a full fledged dinner buffet with items like meatloaf and mashed potatoes with families and screaming children plowing through. The lounge sadly lacks an exclusive, luxury ambiance like other Westin lounges. It is set up more like a restaurant with tables and chairs, only 2 sofas for more comfort. The staff up there were not very warm or friendly. Finally, there was never a sense of welcome or warmth at the front door-- no staff or doorman to greet or assist in 4 days. Shocking! Furthermore, only saw a bellman or concierge at their stations once in 4 days, and that was only because a Viking tour group was arriving. Once they got settled, never saw staff again for the duration of my stay. Where was everyone? The Paulaner German restaurant on site was excellent as was the hotel’s daily breakfast buffet.

Great hotel, staff is really friendly and the indoor pool and gym facilities are good. Great breakfast, they even have fried rice and porridge. VIP lounge is small but have basic things you need.

Amazing Hotel in Munich!
Our experience in Munich was outstanding, thanks to the Westin staff and facilities, they did make our trip to be memorable. Maja from Front Desk was absolutely great, her customer service was personalized and professionally executed. Maja you’re a rockstar! The rooms were neat and very comfortable, breakfast in the morning was delicious. The location is 3 min walking distance from the U tram station and there are many stores around in the Arabellapark neighborhood.
Don’t want to forget to mention the concierge gentleman that helped us taking our bags to the room, unfortunately I don’t know the name, but he was very sweet and friendly. Thank you.

As a titanium member - This hotel is awful in almost every way. First, check in was like an interrogation. I was traveling with kids and one was a baby and it took forever - they were making me jump through a million hoops and then everything was an up charge. I get I am in a foreign country and travel often but this was crazy! No help no regard for me and trying to take pressure off of me - but it was so bad!

Second - room is so used up - for the level of scrutiny at check in I expected way more than a used up courtyard vibe.

Third - lounge is nice but I was stopped at the elevator for the glass of wine I was taking away- like I was stealing and embarrassed in front of the whole room. All I wanted was a glass of wine in the room because I have kids and couldn’t spend hours in the lounge - again another “rule” that was frustration. I am now trying to figure out if I want to check out or stay but would never come back! This hotel has horrible customer service and they treat you like you are working for them! Which as a holiday with family - that was not the vibe I wanted.

As someone that travels for work all the time - that stressful vibe isn’t good either - never leave a bad Marriott review but this was the worst marriott I have ever stayed at.
