Hotel Goldene Gerste in Frankfurt am Main

My German colleague called in advance to see if I could check in early , they said no problem. I took a taxi directly from the airport. I arrived with my luggage and knocked on the door. A woman ( the wife) from a second story window was screaming at me in German!?! A gentlemen (the husband) opened the door said something abruptly then slammed the door in my face. I was in a local Frankfurt neighborhood with no car and has no idea what to do next. Then the gentleman opened the door and had a piece of paper with my name on it...ahhh! Took me inside gave me my key and directed me to my room. A simple misunderstanding . I could not find The Wi-Fi code in the room so reluctantly I went back downstairs . It is more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel with no front desk. I knocked on the door as I heard people talking. When the door open I said “Wi-Fi code” to which the same woman went on an angry tirade that I could not understand but gleaned she was telling me I needed to speak German or Dutch. Then without missing a beat she handed me a paper with the code printed on it , of course she knew what I needed. The bed was fine and the Wi-Fi great, but the walls were paper thin and I could hear everything outside my room. Fortunately I think I was the only one staying there.The church bell across the street woke me up a number of times. When I checked out I had to pay Euros because they couldn’t figure out how to run either of my credit cards. When I left I could see the wife upstairs cleaning my room, I don’t think I need to say what her tip was. I’m thinking the hospitality industry is not for them.

Cannot believe that the room clean service is kind of unavailable during stay.

Visited the Goldene Gerste for 6 nights.

We received a friendly welcome and were given the keys. All keys are usually handed over via a key safe, but ours was different 🤷‍♂️.

The room was on the 2nd floor. First, some of the lighting in the hallway and bathroom was broken. There were several stains on the carpet, and we had the impression it hadn't been cleaned beforehand.

After 3 nights, the room wasn't cleaned; the owner had already requested this after 2 nights to keep the property in good condition. We received fresh towels and a new trash bag after the 4th night, after we had requested them. Cleaning is done upon presentation of a card; we read the information in the fine print. As mentioned above, it should be in the interest of the owner/operator to keep the property in good condition.
In a hotel, you can expect certain standards in terms of service and technical condition. Otherwise, you shouldn't call it a hotel. The owner gives it 3 stars. We think that's too high.

The positives are the Wi-Fi, the proximity to our family, and the S-Bahn connection.
