Orto di Roma in Rome

I wish I could leave a better review for this hotel, I had high hopes when I found it online. I got there on the 02/01 and planned to stay few days, the receptionist when checking me in asked me if I could leave a deposit and I agreed to pay the equivalent of two days on my credit card.
I was given one of the small bungalows in the courtyard, the room was very basic, the bed uncomfortable as was equipped with a cheap spring mattress harder than marble. After dinner at their restaurant (which I can’t fault for service of quality of food to be fair) I retired to my room, I soon discovered the toilet flush was broken and reception sent a handy man at around 10 pm. The toilet was quite small and in need of an urgent upgrade.
I decided to leave and book somewhere else that at the same price was offering much more modern and comfortable rooms.
When I checked put in the morning I was told by the reception that despite my inconveniences and the fact that within few hours of booking I informed them I would leave the morning after they would not return my deposit let alone offer me any discount for the troubled night. On top of it all they also backtracked on the promise of refunding me the stay tax I was exempt from claiming they were already deducted (they wer not).
I am left with no option but to open a complaint procedure with my Visa card to get a refund.
The owner herself contacted over the phone declared she would keep the difference for her trouble!(ridicoulous).
The hotel in itself is a lovely place although the buildings, rooms and courtyard are much in need of some restoration, the place looks overall shabby compared to its local competitors.
The rooms are basic, poor or no decor at all, resemble a highway motel rooms rather than a touristic hotel.

In substance, there is a lot of better places nearby for the same price and much kinder service elsewhere.

Hotels in the norm. But be careful, to me to-night ,at the hotel , they emptied my van of tools ,drills ,avvitatorei , etc
