Reviews
Our stay at Hotel Caravel in Rome was overall quite good. The rooms were comfortable, the breakfast options were nice, and the hotel is conveniently located about 20 minutes away from Roma Termini train station, which made getting around easy.
However, there were a few things that could be improved. There was no kettle in the room, and we had to ask for one from reception, as well as for the air conditioning each time we needed it — which was a bit inconvenient.
The reception team, while helpful at times, could be more welcoming and proactive (The Female staff who was present on Date- 9th Oct. Time- 11:25 AM) As reception staff are the first impression of the hotel, improving their approach toward guests would make a big difference in the overall experience.
The stay was comfortable, and the hotel itself is clean, modern, and well-maintained. With a bit more attention to guest service, this could easily become a top choice in Rome.
•Terrible insulation, you can hear everything and everyone in your room. Its impossible to have a good sleep.
•The elevators make an incredibly loud alarm noise everytime the door opens. This doesn‘t go well with the bad insulation.
•The sink leaked
•The bathroom smells like disgusting sewage
•There is no fridge (which is noted in the room description, but it‘s still ridiculous)
•The breakfast selection is minimal
•The breakfast bread has the texture of a stone
•They provide plastic cups instead of glass at breakfast
•The city center is 30 minutes by bus
The only positive I can say about this Hotel is the service desk. The staff is nice and helpful.
The service was not very helpful. On Wed Oct 29 there was an older man who was very helpful but the rest need a lesson on public relations. As we were leaving a new young girl called us a cab and came outside to explain which was very nice but this was our only interaction. They had an excellent selection of breakfast food which included a blended juice of carrot, lemon and orange which was outstanding.
The rooms were OK but the staff entered the rooms even though the do not disturb sign was out and it was obvious we weren't ready for service.
The beds were hard as a rock and the air conditioner did not work and we were uncomfortably warm. We finally called the desk and found out you had to make a special call to have it turned on which we did nights 2 and 3.
The view from the room was a 10 story apartment building on the balcony side.
I can see that most people say good breakfast but excuse me what breakfast? There is only jam, nutella and bread and they are in small packs😄. We stayed 3 nights but we went outside for breakfast.
Reception staff should be more welcoming as you hardly get a thank you or hello or even a smile.
The shower gel compartment kept dropping into the shower but everything else was fine including a good bed.
Breakfast, food was cold and the bread was stale. Sat in the corner and knocked a spider's website which wasn't great. In general, you can make it work on a budget.
The location is excellent in proximity to the centre. TIP- If you're coming from Roma Termini get the bus 714, it'll drop you right outside the hotel. I'd also recommend getting a Roma pass for travel and booking attractions ahead of your trip (worth the money!). It'll give you a local travel pass that you can validate near the Centrale food court in the station and you can get transfer tickets to the airport.
Overall hotel is good for a budget weekend. No fridge or kettle, local restaurants available if you want to stay close.
