Camping Maremma Sans Souci in Castiglione della Pescaia

The location is nice because it's close to the beach. The bathrooms are truly disgusting though and almost unusable. The toilet is in the shower stall without toilet paper, soap or any space to put personal items. Since it is in the literal shower, everything including the toilet seat is at all times wet. There is so little room in the shower because of the toilet that it is really not easy to shower. The parking spots are not big enough to sit in front of or next to your camper. It was also very loud as my spot was close to the restaurant and the staff moved the cutlery very loudly at 11 or 12 pm so the baby kept waking up. It was very loud during the night in general.
I planned on staying a couple of days but I left after one night. Would not recommend for the price.

The worst campsite I’ve ever been to. I can imagine that some people might enjoy the sheltered private spots, but you really have to love mosquitoes. You can’t sit outside your tent for a single second without being eaten alive, and after showering you basically need to take another shower in mosquito repellent. On top of that, the showers and toilets are absolutely filthy and poorly maintained, which makes the whole experience even worse.

In the surrounding area, apart from one small town, there’s hardly anything to do. And the beach is a complete joke. You’re not even allowed to sit right next to it because it’s a paid private beach. So either you pay, or you walk quite a distance to a section where you’re allowed to sit with your towel. If you do sit on the private beach and are willing to pay, but accidentally take a lounger that turns out to be reserved, you’ll be kicked off in an extremely rude and downright hostile way! The lifeguard was unbelievably antisocial. When we asked how we could have known that, he simply replied: “Because I’m telling you now.” (He had been gone for over 1.5 hours, so we couldn’t ask him before)… And then the manager told us we should just walk 20 minutes to the reception to ask whether we were allowed to sit on that specific lounger.

In short: please go look for another campsite — you won’t be missing out on anything here, except maybe dirty bathrooms, mosquitoes, and rude staff.

The campsite has a habit of responding poorly and ridiculously to reviews that give only one star. Like many companies, they prefer to blame the customer, guest, or visitor instead of taking responsibility. I’d call that a classic example of bad business practice — not just a classic holiday mistake!

So once again, to all readers and potential visitors: please read the reviews carefully and think twice before booking!

Nice campsite with places for tents that are quite private. Unfortunately there are lots of musquitos, which doesn’t make it pleasant to sit outside. Besides that the first part of the beach has sunbeds and you are not allowed to sit at that part of the beach and sunbeds are not cheap. Also the guy taking care of the payment of the beds is really really rude to customers, not really the holiday experience we expect.

We went there with our camper trailer. It’s not a big one, and I really have no trouble reversing or maneuvering in tight spaces. But entering the camp was my worst driving experience ever. Space is extremely limited everywhere, even on main routes, with low-hanging branches, sharp corners, and trees all around. It would be fine with a tent or a small camper van, but for me it was awful. I spent an hour inching forward from tree to tree, corner to corner, with my wife and other guests helping by holding branches out of the way. The whole time, I was constantly worried about the damage caused by trees. No damage was done, to my surprise.

On the bright side, the staff was friendly and the place itself is beautiful. Still, I couldn’t help but think that if it was this difficult, the staff should have warned me in advance.
