Cortona Resort & Spa is a fascinating place. Mainly because it charges luxury-resort prices while delivering something that feels closer to a tired roadside hotel with good marketing photos.

Let’s begin with the price. €200+ a night. For that you might expect a certain level of quality. Instead you get a place that feels like it stopped updating itself sometime around the early 2000s and decided branding would do the rest.

To help with the illusion, there is a Bentley parked at the entrance. Not moving, just… parked. Like a prop in a theatre play about wealth. I assume it’s there to help guests briefly suspend disbelief before walking inside.

The restaurant deserves its own paragraph. I ordered the duck. Calling it dry would be generous. This bird had clearly endured a long and difficult relationship with a microwave. By the time it reached the table it had the texture of something that could comfortably be used to clean dishes.

Another lovely touch: a small note at reception explaining that if you would like your sheets changed in your room, that will cost €9. A bold policy when the room itself is already north of €200 per night.

The general feeling of the place is simple: wildly overpriced for what it actually is.

Now, and this is important: the staff were genuinely sweet. Friendly, helpful, and clearly doing their best. They deserve better than the setup they are working in.

Cortona is full of wonderful places to stay.

Spend your money at one of those.

Beautiful Resort in the middle of nowhere. The masseuse was horrible at her job like the worst massage I’ve had in my entire life. I got 2 just to make sure it wasn’t me. The food selection is small. The spa is super inadequate. Rooms are decent tho staff is friendly. Just super outdated and expensive for lowest quality . I honestly wouldn’t believe this is a 4 star resort seemed closer to a holiday in with a pool. Be careful not to burn yourself in the steam room as vents aren’t labeled but scalding hot . And careful not to walk faster then a tip top on there slippery floors. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worse enemy.

My mother and I booked an 80 minute “detox fanghi” massage, paying in advance by wire transfer. When we arrived they demanded to see our passports, which obviously we didn’t bring to a spa day. No information was given about the facilities, or where to go to get to the treatment rooms. Needless to say there was no welcome of any sort, which considering we’d paid them €230 was rather rude. We eventually found our way and we were given a much cheaper 25 minute really uncomfortable, borderline painful, stomach and leg massage. Then the masseuse abruptly left the treatment room! After ten minutes of hanging around, we realised nobody was coming back. Post complaining about this, we were promised a partial refund by the manager Guilherme. Despite numerous emails, we still are awaiting this refund two months later, with zero responses to our chasers. Avoid this place at all costs, unless of course you like chaotic experiences, painful massages and to be ripped off!

The hotel was clean but our room was pretty dark (in the building next to the main building). The spa pool had most jets that were not working. The water was warm which was nice. The sauna was really hot too! They allowed our son to enter which we really appreciated it. The steam room wasn’t working great. I have to say breakfast was not 4 stars. If you wanted scrambled eggs, salmon, etc.. you had to pay extra. After paying a significant amount for the room it didn’t seem that they should charge for this. I wouldn’t return to this hotel, even though overall we had a decent stay.

This was our first trip to Tuscany. We purchased a package at a charity auction and this hotel was included. 5 nights include spa, and dinner. I believe that this hotel is being kept afloat from these packages, as most of the guests were from the US. The rooms were large and comfortable. The food at the restaurant was standard...the spa was relaxing. What I didn't like was the concierge service. We were charged for taxi service and also paid the non English speaking driver (who was an employee and not a car service as he took the laundry out of the back seat of the car before we got in.) We could not understand if we were to be billed, or not for a 1km drive to the town of Cortona. We received two very different quotes for a car service to Seinna. (120 euro, both ways, then 375 euro by another clerk at the desk). Upon check out. That taxi driver was at the desk...they had double charged us for the rooms. I had to find another employee to assist in settling the bill.
