Grand Hotel Baglioni in Florence

We stayed here as part of an anniversary trip. The hotel itself is very nice and really lent itself to an upscale + proper Italian vibe over staying with a major hotel chain. Lobby is gorgeous.

Our room was one the ‘Smart’ rooms, and while it had more of an old money vibe than the sleek and modern lobby, it was very cozy and romantic. Complimentary minibar was a nice touch, and we had a balcony and openable windows with a good view of the Duomo. My only critique is the bathtub was a little slippery when attempting to take a shower, but a great room.

The front desk staff was great, including Lapo who checked us in and allowed us to hold bags early. Staff was very welcoming all around and always stopped their conversations to greet us.

Breakfast was included in our rate and it was an incredible spread, with savory options as well as the traditional Italian pastries. This was a highlight, with the great views of the city, and Alessandro the maître d’ was great as well.

It’s a great location, just a couple blocks from SMN station making it great for arriving by train. There’s an underground passage that deposits you right out front of the hotel as well. It’s just a few minutes on foot from the Duomo, but with how walkable Florence is, most of the major attractions are *at most* a 30 min walk.

A stately and iconic building - simply stunning views, great location, and historic architecture. Staff were exceedingly helpful when issues arose, especially Elisa. She was as invested in solving my WiFi issues or more than I was!!

Having said that, the heating system only heats. The air conditioning cannot be operative at the same time. So my first very very warm room was impossible to cool down - even with the window open (it was 48 F outside). The fan they brought was somewhat helpful. However between the outside noise, the fan noise, the light on the fan, and the hard as a rock bed, there was little rest. I was moved to a more spacious room with a window on the exterior. (The first room’s window was facing an courtyard with little wind.). The mattress while still firm was slightly better.

My phone was unable to connect to the WiFi. Elisa doggedly solved the problem by arranging my own account on their system. Essentially for streaming the Olympic events I wanted to see.

The restaurant is a culinary delight. Stunning views, 5-star table service, and creative cuisine. However, while the menu helpfully lists about 10 ingredients that may be allergens or intolerances, they haven’t really taken that into account. For example, on the bar menu you can select from two appetizer trios - each with three small plates. Yet, in each trio there were two I could not have. And I was unable to order just the item I could in fact eat. At dinner, an amazing amuse bouche was brought to my table with two ingredients I couldn’t eat. No one asked me about foods to avoid. As soon as mentioned one the waiter, earnest to be helpful, took it away. Only to return with another that needed to be returned. Finally a third was brought without the offending ingredients. The waitstaff were attentive, however, simply asking on the front end would’ve avoided this. He did suggest a dessert without offending ingredients.

The room is beautiful and the environment is lovely. The entire hotel is gorgeous. Breakfast is served on the rooftop, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of Florence's city center – both beautiful and delicious. The staff are very friendly, making for a great experience.

The room has a very vintage feel. The front desk staff provided excellent service. I would definitely consider staying here again if I come back to Florence, mainly because it's so close to the train station, haha!

Five-star experience! The rooms are huge and full of old-world Italian charm. Great amenities (love the daily mini-bar refills!) and the breakfast is a must—excellent food and an unbeatable view. Highly recommended.

Excellent location, super convenient for getting around. The staff are warm and professional, providing thoughtful and attentive service. Overall, a great experience.

The location is excellent, and both the room and public areas were very clean. Soundproofing was average.
Most of the front desk staff were polite and helpful.

However, I had an unpleasant experience with one female front desk staff member that I found difficult to understand. During my stay, there was no bottled water in the mini bar in my room, so I called the front desk to request some. She insisted that the water was already in the mini bar. I repeatedly explained that there were only beverages and no water, yet she asked whether I had already drunk it.

I found this response unreasonable and unprofessional, and it showed a lack of basic respect. I hope the hotel will take this feedback seriously and improve staff communication and service quality.

It's about a 10-minute walk from the train station, and you have to drag your luggage, but the service was excellent. We arrived in the morning before check-in, so we left our bags and went out. When we returned, our room cards were ready, and our luggage had already been sent up to the room. All the water in the mini-fridge was complimentary and replenished daily. Just a heads-up, there were a lot of Koreans.

Grand old lady is the best way to describe this hotel. Great value for money and very friendly staff. Breakfast was superb. Only 200m from the station, and using the subway tunnel made it a breeze to get to the hotel from the station with all our luggage. Within easy walking distance of all the major attractions.
