Hotel Galileo in Florence

The location of Hotel Galileo is very convenient, particularly as it is close to the main train station. Unfortunately, the breakfast experience left a lot to be desired.

Only three or four boiled eggs were ever placed out at a time, and whenever they ran out, I had to approach her to request more. Each time, she responded with clear irritation, often ignoring me altogether. This attitude wasn’t limited to the eggs—anything that was finished on the buffet resulted in the same dismissive and unprofessional behaviour. In my view, her conduct even felt somewhat discriminatory, which made the experience especially uncomfortable.

I fully understand that many Europeans are naturally straightforward in their manner, and this can sometimes come across as brusque. However, when I describe the staff member in charge of breakfast as rude, it is because her behaviour went well beyond simple directness. She appears to be the only person managing the entire breakfast area—cleaning, replenishing items, clearing plates, and overseeing everything—and yet she consistently treated guests as though we were inconveniencing her.

The poor service at breakfast overshadowed the hotel’s otherwise convenient location. For that reason, I would give this hotel one star.
