Reviews
1. It was very dark (one window overlooked a narrow, dark street) and cold: the heating system in the room was broken, and they later gave us a fan heater, which was terribly noisy and dried out the air in the room, drying out my skin and nose, and causing a constant sore throat.
2. It was dirty from age and lack of maintenance, heavily used, and dilapidated. The closet opposite our bed had no doors or even curtains. Nothing had been done to provide even the slightest comfort.
3. The room constantly had an unpleasant odor. It smelled of long-standing dampness and mold. We asked to change our room when we arrived, and they showed us another one on the floor above, but it was even worse, so we had to stay in this one.
4. The Wi-Fi in the room worked very poorly and very rarely. If you sat with your phone by the door, you could get at least some connection for three minutes. Then the internet would drop out again.
5. It was so audible that if a neighbor was talking to another person behind the wall of our room or upstairs, you could hear every word and intonation. And when they were watching something funny at midnight and laughing, and I asked them (from my room) to turn it down, they heard me and apologized. We were all in our own rooms!
The breakfasts were monotonous (literally the same every day) and meager. You won't leave hungry; a boiled egg, a tasteless sausage, and a tiny croissant won't let you faint. But you won't enjoy it. I recommend skipping the hotel breakfast and choosing the cafes around the area – the prices are affordable, and the food in the coffee shops in the area is delicious.
What was great was the daily cleaning of the room. A big thank you to the cleaning staff for their diligent efforts and meticulous cleaning of this hotel, which is long in need of repair and renovation. The breakfast manager was also friendly. Thanks to the hotel staff for trying to alleviate our unpleasant stay. But this hotel isn't worth the money; the price is way too high! Renovate, make the rooms more cozy, eliminate the dampness, fix the heating, and review the breakfast menu, and we'll be happy to return.
Tip: one block from the hotel toward the Duomo, there's a wonderful coffee shop with amazing cappuccino and always fresh, delicious, affordable pastries. There's a small store across the street, but the prices are about 20 percent higher. If you head toward the Arno River, across the bridge, on the right, there's a supermarket with everything you need (water, snacks, juice, wine) at good prices.
