Hotel Parma e Oriente Wellness & Spa in Montecatini-Terme

This is a really beautiful hotel. Rooms are comfortable, cleaned every day, towels (large and luxurious) are changed every day. There is plenty of comfortable seating, chairs and settees, in the hotel, and also outside. Staff are friendly and very helpful. The hotel is well situated for train stations, the funicular, and the Terme.. The only problem is the food. Breakfast is ok, (but avoid the eggs, which must have been prepared at about 0630). The evening meals were not ok. On our first night, it was crowded because of a tour party. After placing our orders, it took 50 minutes for the first course to arrive; not what I had ordered (gnocchi). I was told that they’d run out of that, so what I got was penne with a sticky tomato sauce, which ( the sauce) made several more appearances during our week’s stay. Other meals followed the same unsatisfactory pattern, a pity as they promote themselves as traditional Tuscan cuisine. If they could just get the food right, it would get 5 stars. We stayed here for 5 nights and had a good stay Pros: Room charming, spotlessly clean, cleaned very efficiently every day Hotel has lovely comfortable common areas - comfy sofas in the lobby, and also out on the terrace. The pool was closed, which was fine - there is not a lot of space to sit around it in the sun but we found a little sun trap every day which was lovely. Staff - very friendly and helpful Situation - conveniently situated to get to the station for days out to Florence/Lucca or just to wander around the town Cons: Food - was very disappointing. For a hotel which had been marketing itself on traditional Tuscan food, it was very mediocre - rather too much like school dinners. Pastries stale at breakfast, eggs cooked to oblivion Restaurant service - often very slow, especially one evening when a large tour group was staying. I’d thoroughly recommend staying here but maybe eat elsewhere - there are lovely bakeries in town for breakfast and Gina’s Trattoria had amazing food very reasonably priced.
