Rooms were not serviced unless you wanted to pay a daily rate. Recycle bins in the hallway for cans and bottles. This was good as if we couldn't recycle, the bin would have been overflowing in the room after 4 nights
Convenient Location but Spartan Room
Very good location in town center (about 10 minute walk to ski lifts), but room was very basic
Small fridge big enough for drinks and breakfast supplies. Little cakes provided in fridge on day of arrival that was a nice feature and very delicious (little cheesecakes). Reason for a rating of 3 was the location
2 made for us and the 3rd just a mattress - not very appealing. I didn't realise the shared bathroom was an onsen so we had no shower in the room. Towels were paper thin and small
Beds were hard and pillows were straw on one side and stuffing on other side. It's a traditional Japanese pillow but not good if you are not accustomed to a hard pillow
They don't focus on hotel service; they're putting all their effort into the restaurant on the first floor.

Another big plus for me was that the ONSEN is included in the hotel price. It’s a public bath with separate areas for men and women. It’s perfect after skiing — to relax your muscles and soak in the hot water
A great opportunity to experience a Japanese TRADITION. This is traditional Japanese-style accommodation. The bathroom is shared, meaning it is common for all guests. There are no beds in the bedroom
There are also free buses from Happo One(the closest one and most popular ski resort) that go almost directly to the hotel, which makes it very convenient to return back for free as well
The LOCATION is GREAT — about a 10–15 minute walk to the main street with many cafes. 👍Right across from the hotel there is a café called Crepes, serving French-style crepes
Visited here back in Nov 2025 when its not ski season yet. The price was very affordable even with dinner included and the overall experience was fantastic
Very tasty and very welcoming — a great option for breakfast, highly recommend trying it. In the evening it’s also a cozy place to sit and relax

You can truly feel how much they care about their guests and take pride in sharing their culture. We had such a wonderful stay and will definitely be back
The easiest 5 stars I’ve ever given!
From the moment we arrived, everything was amazing. The accommodation beautifully embraces traditional Japanese culture, which made the experience feel so special and authentic
It’s perfectly located in the heart of Happo Village making it a short walk to the mountain, restaurants, and bars, and super close to the Happo Bus Terminal. The rooms were spotless and very well maintained
The hotel itself was great offering a traditional experience, great breakfast and an extremely convenient location- close to the Happo One bus terminal, most rental stores, lots of restaurants and bars
At first, I thought it would have a dated interior since it’s an older hotel, but it turned out to be quite modern, well-maintained, spacious, and very clean! I loved the ryokan-style ambiance
The onsen/ hot spring on the 5th floor is the most anticipated refreshment after a massive day on the slope. Been staying here for years, and we can't wait for our next visit back

We stayed here for 3 nights for snowboarding. We were pleasantly surprised with no only the services offered at the hotel but also the extra services offered by the owners
We stayed at El Mayo during our time in Hakuba and that place is awesome, simple and you have everything you need and its super quiet for a good rest
They happily drove us back from the ski mountain and also to the bus stop. My favorites part was relaxing in the bath in the basement floor after a long day of snowboarding. Thank you very much and I will come again!
P
Location is perfect for shuttle bus to and from ski resorts and also short walk to restaurants and supermarkets. Owners are very nice people, they drove us to ski resorts every morning
Great location between ski fields and shops. Absolutely amazing service, the owners were very kind. We definitely recommend getting the breakfast package as it makes mornings easy and is wide ranging.
so clean, as expected in Japan, but is still nice to stay in. nothing is ever too much and even though the English is limited they can more than understand and try extremely hard to communicate

Thank you for your hospitality. The building is old, but it is well-maintained and clean.
I ordered breakfast when I checked in, and it was as delicious and filling as the reviews said.
Wonderful stay , clean and great food for breakfast and dinner. Friendly elderly couple that run the place and kudos to the awesome hospitality
The balcony overlooks the mountains. The hot spring is nice and empty. The curtains are too transparent and it is very bright in the early morning
The interior of the B&B smells of cypress, and the B&B is well maintained. The Japanese-style breakfast is delicious with Western food
You can still hear the collision sound next door, but some hotels can also hear the sound from next door, which is acceptable to us
It would be nice if the hotel signboard is clearer at the point of entry from the main road,, missed the entrance a few times

Only downside is the mirror in the room are too low for me and there is no humidifier in the room so be careful not to turn on the heat for whole night unless you are Waterman
Totally walkable distance to Lawson and Hakuba bus terminal. On-site onsen is really great and clean. The well prepared breakfast which you can choose Japanese or Western style are a good start for a day
Really nice place to stay for budget traveler, one of the best ryokan I have ever stayed in Japan. com in about 8 months ago and it seems I luckily get a larger room with private restroom and large tatami met
First, if you arrive early, luggage storage is only available after 9:00 AM. Second, check-in is strictly after 3:00 PM. Lastly, after check-out, you can no longer use the facilities
It’s conveniently located: 4 minutes’ walk to the bus station, 5 minutes to Lawson, 2–3 minutes to all the equipment rental shops, and about 19 minutes’ walk to Evergreen Ski / Snowboard School and the chairlift
Location is also perfect, only 10 minute walk to the gondola and 5 min walk to the bus terminal where you can take the buss to other ski resorts as well as to Nagano

Tako bent over backwards to make every aspect of our stay amazing. The room was comfortable, the private hot springs was small but very nice and peaceful, breakfast in the beautiful dining room was fabulous
Hotel Soyokaze was such a cosy and welcoming place to stay. Takao’s personalised hosting made us feel completely safe and looked after from the moment we arrived
We stayed in the stand-alone cabin - it was very comfortable: laundry and kitchen facilities, spacious by Japanese standards with a separate lounge area, loft area (with very low ceiling) if you want to have separate bedrooms
Muto San is an amazing host, on hand to give the best tips on which slopes to hit every morning, and somehow is always there to greet you when you return! The real gem is the in house onsen!! perfect to roll out of your soggy ski gear into a yukata and head downstairs
The room was spacious and incredibly comfortable, and being able to book the private onsen each evening was such a special touch. Great location, beautiful atmosphere, and truly memorable hospitality
An absolutely amazing hotel! We stayed for 2 nights and will definitely be staying here again in the future. Excellent location, amazing owner and host Taka, comfortable room, relaxing private onsen

We stayed here for 4 nights and had a wonderful experience. The inn is gorgeous, the host family is incredibly nice and the food was outstanding
I love this Ryokan. This is the second time we've stayed here. I highly recommend it for the kindness of the owners, the peaceful atmosphere, and the delicious dishes they prepare and present with such care ☺️.
We loved our stay and had an amazing time skiing in hakuba and staying at this lovely family-run inn.
The food was amazing too and prepared with such care!
The host himself promptly delivered my sunglasses that I left to my new hotel, which I greatly appreciated. Would highly recommend everybody to have a stay here. The host kindly picked up from the bus stop
We love this hotel
It's a wonderful hotel. Very clean, services were excellent. My family including the kids enjoyed staying thoroughly.
Very close to our ski school, easy to find.
Highly recommended.
We stayed in the Aoi room - very spacious and has million dollar views of the mountains across the valley. Particularly liked having lots of comfortable common areas to hangout or do work

The shared bathroom didn't bother me, but opposite, especially it has the pool of hot spring water. Very cozy and traditional 😊 Super clean. Very nice and friendly management. We enjoyed staying there in march’25
Breakfast and dinner is super value for money! We should have ordered dinner every single day (you will have a book in advance and check for availability). Plenty of parking spaces is a plus for those who plan to drive
Hakuba Glad Inn Ebisuya is THE place for a lovely, relaxing and authentic traditional Japanese stay :D!! The owners were ski instructors themselves, so they know exactly what you need (that’s how they met
Location is superb, breakfast is 1500 yen topup and tasted very authentic japanese. Many guests were up at 7am for breakfast. We were offered new years day mochi rice cake for new year breakfast
Lovely cute room in excellent location. Cute ryokan style room with own toilet and sink. Onsen downstairs was ok but there are lots of onsens to explore in area for bathing after skiing
A short walk to main Happo bus terminal. Also very short walk to Hakuba Valley Shuttle bus stop and skiing at Nakiyama slope. Not much of a walk to Happo Gondola either

There are not enough parking spaces, so you have to arrive early to get one. But the owner has a good attitude and the hotel is very clean
In an area where surrounding hotels cost over 1,000 yen per night, and 3,000 to 4,000 yen is very common, this hotel is undoubtedly excellent value for money. There are cemeteries nearby, but this doesn't affect the stay
Located about 1 kilometer from the Baekma Gakam Ski Resort, this is a guesthouse run by an elderly couple. The rooms are simple and clean
The surrounding scenery is beautiful during the day; just avoid arriving at night
The three-storey small hotel is not convenient for the elderly. The room facilities are rudimentary. Apart from two beds and a toilet and bathroom, it lacks everything, not even an electric water cooker
Very Cold
The Heater function is as if it's doesn't exist

The staff is very helpful and know the area well, giving you tips on where will be good to board/ski on any given day which helps with getting more powder runs with less crowd. Definitely recommend this place!
Lovely people! Very welcoming and helpful! Was a cosy place to stay!
We had an amazing holiday at The Powder Temple, largely due to the exceptional staff and the welcoming atmosphere they created. I want to be very clear from the outset: the staff made this place what it was
Chef Freya cooked great food, the two showers that were working were reliably hot, and having a bar on site was a nice bonus (although drinks were pretty exy)
I can only describe the PT as a home away from home. Very comfortable couches and the staff are amazing. It actually feels like you’re at home rather than in a hotel
Hannah, Jack, Freya, and the two Swedish guys were outstanding hosts throughout our stay. Their hospitality was genuine, warm, and consistent

The van service allowed me to go skiing without having to use public shuttles and the inhouse private onsen was especially useful for relaxing after long hours skiing
They were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about everything in the area and offered lots of great suggestions for both skiers and non skiers
super comfortable beds! amazing location most things were a 10 min walk away, worker Jen was so helpful to us girls 🩷
We had a really cozy stay at this inn. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like everything is easy to access and is taken care of, because it really was
We found this a great location to stay. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Greg drove us to the ski field or bus stop on several occasions. The location was conveniently located close to Happo and Echoland
Place was very clean, comfortable, well heated and it even has it's own onsen. Location is very good, quiet, with a free shuttle bus stop nearby. Breakfasts include fruits, yogurts, muesli, toast, jams, coffee, tea

The whole area is charming with lots of parks and nature we enjoyed our stay very much but would recommend coming with a car because some of the stuff are not walking distance (there’s free parking)
While it is a bit out of town, just around the corner is a bus stop where you can take free shuttles to many of the main resorts including Happo one, Goryu 47 and Tsugaike. There is also an onsen very close by
There’s also a shared kitchen where you can make food and we cooked dinner together which was really nice!
The most amazing thing was the host he Was exceptionally nice, extremely helpful and made us feel welcome and at home
We stayed during the summer for 4 nights. The room was amazing comfortable beds and big common area traditional Japanese style. The bathroom and showers were outside the room but it didn’t bother us at all
Facilities are basic but convenient and very comfortable. Many restaurants and a convenience store are also within walking distance (~10-15mins). A very comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable stay in Hakuba
Larger beds than those in the city. Even shared kitchen, dining, shower, toilets, we didnt mind. They are clean, comfortable, perfect for skiing week. Staf was friendly, speaking little english

The whole place has been renovated with a big kitchen and communal lounge with heaps of room for a large group. Great location with a 2 minute walk into town, close to restaurants, shuttle bus and convenience store
Meteor is one of the coziest lodging spots I’ve ever stayed at! I’m a sucker for fleece bedding, and they had exactly that. Meteor has a shared kitchen for people to store, heat, and eat food
I booked Meteor on Agoda, where Meteor messaged me a lot of key information such as:
- food and ski rental recommendations
- reminding me to making reservations for dinner, because apparently, restaurants in Hakuba book out at dinner time
- reminding me to make shuttle / taxi accommodations
I greatly appreciated this, as it made my planning much easier
Location is great; it’s within a 10 minute walk from the Main Street to get food and about 20 minutes away from the nearest convenience store. Overall, I’d love to stay here again the next time I visit Hakuba
Great for ski trip
Very nice small pension with an Udon restaurant included. We went there for a two day ski trip and it was an amazing experience. Very friendly staff, Japanese style lobby and restaurant
Chika even surprised us with a cheesecake board as a congratulations on our last night. We'd stay here again without hesitation and recommend it highly as a place to stay if you're coming to Echoland

Other than emptying the rubbish bin, our room was not serviced in the 5 nights we were there. After 3 days I took our dirty cups down to reception and asked for clean ones, which they were unable or unwilling to provide
The hotel advertises a bar ‘on demand’ but the one night we asked about it we were offered beers from reception for cash instead. The wi-fi was patchy and the TV did not even have broadcast stations available
The transfers advertised are only available in the morning to the ski slopes before 10am, in the afternoon when the slopes close, and a short period for runs into the local town for dinner in the evening
The breakfast was plentiful if basic but ran out of some of the hot food items on several occasions. The breakfast room was in a separate building meaning a cold walk through the snow each morning
Eventually they reluctantly washed the cups for me. There was no complimentary tea or coffee in the rooms. We had brought our own tea bags but there weren’t even teaspoons for making hot drinks
The location in the forest was lovely, but transport was the biggest issue for us. It is a 30 minute walk on dark, icy roads to and from the main shops and restaurants

Would definately stay here again and recommend Pension Tomato to others!
Big thanks to the hosts, we meant to leave detailed feedback on our review on booking. com but there was a glitch and it didn’t save our feedback
We got the upstairs apartment that slept up to 4 people in single beds but I believe you could request an additional futon to fit two more people (please confirm with them)
Absolutely loved our stay at Pension Tomato. The hosts are so lovely, thoughtful and helpful, even down to details like printing off the free ski shuttle bus schedule etc
Ideal nightlife with a karaoke bar, club 902, and the secret speak easy of the cigarette vending machine bar. Hosts are a lovely couple who were very accommodating and gave us a great tour of everything upon check in
Booked a dinner with them as well and it was STUNNING! 5 course meal. We were stuffed! A great ending to our trip. And we were able to coordinate a next day drop off at Happo Bus Station for 7:15 am the night off
Best bathroom set up i have encountered in Japan felt very luxe!
Great gear storage for boots and boards. We also had the option of additional washer/dryer in gear room as well as a washer in our apartment unit

so close to the easy Ski Fields, has its own ski hire shop and close to so many great restaurants (especially rabbit hole!) + the snow was so fantastic and pure powder!
I would also like to call out the Hotel Manager - Tony who personally drove me into town to get a last-minute Christmas present for my son (which turned out to be fantastic
We had an amazing stay at Koharu Hotel! The rooms were spotless, the atmosphere was cozy, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. A special shoutout to Sam Tahlia and Jesse

Owners truly care about their guests here and take great care of you. When I checked out this morning, the owner offered to drive us to the bus station free of charge to make sure we could make it back to Tokyo on time
The CUTEST home to stay in, super cosy and welcoming, close to so many restaurants and bars. Easy bus close by to the slopes and we walked from the train station which took about 30 mins, but an easy and scenic walk
Very clean inside all communal areas, obviously checked and tidied daily as well. Hot bath was awesome after the snow. When we arrived, Masuda explained all the local options and shops he knows about
Fantastic stay as 3 Aussies staying for the snow. Rooms are simple with everything you need, heating was great. Communal bathrooms, but plenty of cubicles. I never had to wait for the shower either
We loved our stay at Pension Marionette in January 2026. Lovely atmosphere and great location, close to everything. We felt like we were staying at someone's home, not a hotel. It was great.

We stayed in a room and we also spent a night in the Chalet. Staff are incredible and very hospitable. They take much pride in what they do. Staff offer drives to and from ski resorts and wherever else you may want to go
They took care of everything I could possibly need from ski passes, to dinner recommendations to transportation to the different resorts
Stayed in the new chalets at the Guesthouse. They are beautifully made with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The fire and sauna were extra special after skiiing
We honestly wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Hakuba. Highly recommend!

It was a small pension. Even though it was spring skiing, it was still cold at night and dawn, and it was a little cold, so I requested floor heating and asked for it
