Oyado Ichifuji in Nikko

I stayed at Ichifuji for one night, during late March of 2025. I was looking for a local ryokan, one with an onsen. I had booked this ryokan 2 weeks in advance, as it was one of the few that welcomed single travelers.

While rustic, and showing a little of it's age, I would whole-heartedly recommend this place to my friends, and others who are looking for a more "cozy" vibe.

The ryokan is run by an older couple, who see the day to day operations. While the room I stayed in was a little small, it was more than enough for myself. As other reviewers suggest, the food here in phenomenal. I've stayed at a few ryokans before, and this one was one of my favorites for food, due to the variety of dishes, as well as showing off the more rural cooking.

There are two separate baths, which are first come first serve. I was lucky as there were only a few other guests at the time, so they were typically set to mens/womens, but people who get there early enough can reserve the bath for themself.

While this review may be buried with other reviews, I highly encourage anyone traveling to see the non-city elements of Japan to stay here. While the owner doesn't speak much English, that didn't stop us from having a 4 hour conversation through google translate!

We really enjoyed the private onsens available on the property, especially after a long day out.

The family’s restaurant is located less than 100m away from the hotel. We had it for two nights and were really impressed by the grilled butter squid (super fresh squid) and the stir fried offal. It was really convenient for a warm and homey Japanese dinner fix.

The room itself was also very spacious and I enjoyed my first time sleeping on a tatami. There was heater in the room that kept the room warm. Room service was provided everyday with our towels replaced and hot water refilled.

The only minor downside is the location of the hotel, being about a 20mins walk from the nearest station.

Other than that, it was a perfect stay and we really enjoyed our experience. ☺️

The staff were all friendly and warm! I made a reservation for breakfast, and as you can see in the photo, I was treated to a lot of hospitality and had a luxurious breakfast! We were free to rent out the bath depending on the timing! I would like to use it again!

First, the disadvantages. There are only stairs. There is no elevator. The top floor is on the 3rd floor, so it is not recommended for those who cannot go up to the 3rd floor. Is that the only place? The baths that can be reserved are fed directly from the source, the meals are full of locally grown vegetables, and the hot dishes are served hot and freshly prepared. This is an inn where you can keep your body healthy and beautiful. Honestly, I'm afraid that if I post something like this, it will become so popular that I won't be able to stay there anymore. If you think about it that way, this is an inn that I wouldn't want to tell anyone about. It has become one of my favorite accommodations.

The atmosphere of an old folk house exudes nostalgia and calmness, and it's nice to take a trip like this once in a while. Rabbit corner dinner, a variety of hearty breakfast dishes, and the warmth of the illustrated menu. I was also impressed by the good taste in the plants and decorations in the dining room and beyond. This is a small, family-run inn filled with warmth. Transportation was a bit inconvenient, so it was inconvenient to take the train to Kinugawa. Also, although the location of the inn was within walking distance of the station, it was a bit far, so that was a bit of a problem.

I definitely recommend everyone stay here for your trip to enjoy REAL Japanese style life.
The owner is really nice and willing to help us, even though we don't speak Japanese.
The food was delicious and tasted natural. You can feel they spend lots of time preparing those good food!
For the hot spring, I feel fully relaxed after I finished taking it. Love outdoor hot spring!
If I have chance to visit Japan again, I will come again! :)
