The hotel has an excellent location right in the city center, with everything within easy reach. It is modern, clean, and well-maintained. The breakfasts can become a bit repetitive over six days, but we were never left hungry.
The staff were very pleasant and welcoming.
The room had everything necessary, except for proper storage space. There was no wardrobe, dresser, or shelves, which was quite inconvenient for us. Four hangers were clearly not enough.
There were no hooks in the bathroom, so all towels had to be hung on a single bar on the door, which did not allow them to dry properly.
Also, the room overlooked a cemetery, which might be an issue for some guests. According to the staff, rooms facing the street can be noisy.
Everything else was great!

Loved this hotel and everything about it. Rarely would I stay at a hotel again, but for Hotel Musse I will for sure return. The location is excellent, amenities are self service on the 2nd floor, love the shampoo/conditioner/body wash that the hotel provides. It’s clean and the service is friendly. 5th floor has 1 washing machine and 6th floor has 2. Only fill it up like less than halfway to ensure your clothes come out dry. I requested our room to be on the opposite side of the Main Street so it isn’t as loud. The only thing that was “noisy” were the crows! But that was all fine haha. Lovely hotel and right in the middle of the hustle and bustle.

This is my favourite hotel in Kyoto.. very centrally located and right beside nikishi market

Great hotel, I really like the shower/bath room setup here. Lovely room with a window and a view (rare in Japan) on the 8th floor.

Very convenient. The staff speaks English very well. The room is large. Worth it.

Room is spacious and clean, staff is very polite. Location is very convenient, plenty of shops and subway station is very near.

Room was big, came with couch and a window that could be opened. View of street below was nice. Lobby has a coffee machine that also does hot chocolates. Beds were comfy and pillows were great, I prefer firm beds with low pillows. Good location, right next plenty of food places and 2 or 10min walk from the two closest train stations which are run by different companies

04.03.2026 Guest

Convenient location once you're there - walking distance to Nishiki market and many attraction. However it is about 500m from the train station, so you need to factor this in if bringing big luggages or traveling with anyone who can't walk far.

Room is good sized for Japanese hotel. And the room is very clean, well designed and has everything you need. Free amenities at reception.

Breakfast spread is small but sufficient, the variety remained unchanged in the 4 days we are there.

Free coffee tea at reception.
Super value for money.

Very good location, convenient for traveling to different places in Kyoto using the public transportation. Everything was perfect! Thanks

The room is actually two small connecting rooms, which is great because it gives us space for our luggage. Having two bathrooms is a huge plus! The main bathroom is especially spacious with a three-part setup (toilet, sink, shower all separate). The water pressure was excellent and very consistent. On the 2nd floor, there's coffee and drinks available, which is a nice touch. Downstairs, you'll find a drugstore, Don Quijote, and Loft is right next door, with BAL across the street. Takashimaya is just a 5-minute walk to the right. The location is unbeatable, and it's excellent value for money, which more than makes up for the slightly small rooms. The service was also very good!

Lovely service and our steaks were cooked to perfection. Delightfully cosy inside, and also the music was great!

My rating is for the ryokan experience, which is incredibly accommodating and comfortable. The room was roomy and the bed soft and comfortable. The staff went above and beyond to make our whole stay as easy and relaxing as possible. Me and my girlfriend stayed six nights and had a lot of heavy luggage, and after checkout the staff called a taxi, sat us down and gave us hot coffee while we waited, and then gave us an umbrella and loaded our luggage into the taxi.

Hands down the best out of five places we stayed at during our Japan trip.

Easy going, simple and nice. Menu isn't very diverse but that's ok, food/beer combination is well thought about. There are 2 tables next to the entrance (at the right) which are facing sun in the afternoon, it's particularly good in summer.

Cute café and mix of ryokan. Nice selection of craft beers. Bit on the expensive side tho, 900 yen for a craft pint.

18.12.2017 Cerise

Came across this restaurant and notice that is a hostel and cafe mix. When I went in, there was a lot of people so I felt that the food is probably good and I was right! The lunch menu has around 5 choices and I decided to take the smoked pork. I didn't regret a thing!

At first I thought the portion was small but I was wrong and it was filling! The smoked pork has a really nice texture and the sauces is sweet with a tingly taste. I would go back and try the others!
