Had an amazing week long stay in this hostel in March 2020!
Transportation and a Convenience store (7/11) just steps away. Super friendly staff, Super clean, and Super affordable!
Hostel has laundry machines, showers, an awesome shared lounge room with a big screen TV and a convenient kitchen and dining area. A great way to make friends along your travels and meet new people from all over the world.
10 out of 10!
Will likely stay again in the coming weeks if I find myself back in Kyoto!

Its a basic hostel but I booked a single room so i wouldnt have to share bed areas but bathroom is still shared. Location is really close to the Gion district which is a lovely area to explore and dine.

I believe that if I say that we found COCKROACHES, it tells enough about the hygiene of the hostel, despite the staff claiming they 'clean' the whole place everyday.
During this time we were denied access to all of our belongings from 11AM until 3PM.
Don't let the price fool you, it may seem a good hostel from the pictures, but in reality the single and only bathroom is not clean at all, with brownish stains on the walls and shower doors. .
The staff accused us of breaking several things, however they are probably trying to make the guests pay for the literally, already broken hostel.
We found out our belongings had been moved several times, this ranged from shirts and towels to umbrellas, without notifying us at all. Despite the fact that we had carefully made sure to place our belongings neatly folded onto our beds, taking up no one else's space.
Furthermore there are warning signs everywhere in the hostel stating what you can't do explicitly, thus giving an extremely unwelcome feeling.
The reception claims to be open from 9AM until 6PM however, every single time we walked past it (several times a day), there was no one to ask something to. Don't expect for someone to hand you over the key to the room either.
Staff was not helpful and rather see you leave than come.
TL;DR
Don't let the price try to lurk you there, you WILL have a BAD STAY in Kyoto with these people.

Very casual, the atmosphere is very comfortable and the staff are amazing, rooms and showers clean. Great for people who like to be in the centre of Kyoto and are okay with small spaces and shared bathrooms. I also liked the well-equiped kitchen and the fact that all of the house rules are written everywhere.

Easy access to transportation, food, and sights.
For budget pricing, this is an excellent place to lay your head. Having a private room for hostel prices is hard to complain about. The building is not large but consists of a few floors around a spiraling staircase. The top offers an open roof and a stacked washer/dryer.
I only interacted with the staff upon arrival and exit, but they were always at the front with a pleasant welcome.
There are many rules and instructions posted and careful control of footwear. That part is a bit odd from an American perspective, but that's part of the joy of travel :)

Great place to stay, a bit more expensive than a hostel but it's really worth the price. Only the way the showers are it's strange, there are no doors so it's easy to walk in on soweone. Also there's no soap on the bathrooms, if you want it you have to go to the shower area. Other than that I really liked it!
