I read some of the cleanliness reviews prior and had none of those issues, we stayed here for 4-5 days and of all the hotels we stayed in, more and less expensive, this was all in all the cleanest. The location is absolutely perfect for seeing kyoto and tons of things to do within walking distance if you just want to explore without itinerary pressure. HEAVILY reccomend the meals. I was a bit ill at the time when we were here and the meals, and kickass shower saved me.

This is my third stay.
The room offers views of the Kamo River both day and night.
Unfortunately, it was cloudy in the morning when I checked in, so I couldn't see the sunrise.
But on cloudless nights,
you can see many stars!

The location and service are excellent. The hotel looks very old and it's clear they haven't invested in its upkeep. I wouldn't return to this place since it's not worth the price. The Ryokan experience falls far short of what you can find elsewhere.

The historic building and rooms, along with a hearty traditional Japanese breakfast, make it a great place to bring your parents to experience local culture.
The location is fantastic, right by the Kamogawa River, with plenty of dining options and close to the subway station.

Both the location and service were excellent. I highly recommend this ryokan for its great value for money.

The location is excellent, and the facilities, ambiance, and service were all top-notch. I was extremely satisfied with this hotel. It featured a small Japanese-style bath, which I found particularly pleasing due to its traditional feel. What truly set this place apart was the staff's dedication to service, which was on another level. They were incredibly friendly, and the breakfast was delicious too. All in all, it was a thoroughly satisfying experience.

The location was very convenient, the traditional Japanese breakfast was good, and the room was spacious.
However, there were several issues during our stay:
* The bathtub drain was clogged with hair from previous guests, which was unpleasant.
* In the morning, while we were at breakfast (around 8:30 am), we returned to find our beds (traditional tatami futons) already put away — even though we hadn’t requested it and were checking out at 10:00 am.
We had planned to rest a little before leaving, so this was inconvenient.
I would suggest the staff focus more on cleanliness rather than tidying beds without request, especially on check-out day.
* When I went to reception to ask for help carrying my suitcase down the stairs (as I’m pregnant and unable to lift heavy items), the receptionist seemed surprised and questioned why my friend wasn’t carrying it — even though she already had multiple bags of her own. I’m not sure if this was a misunderstanding due to language.
Overall, a convenient location and nice breakfast, but honestly, I wouldn’t choose to stay here for more than one night

This is a nice place to stay if you want to experience an authentic and traditional ryokan an amazing Japanese experience you would want to know/live at least once, staff was friendly and room was good and big. You can easily reach the place by using Sanjo station, which is convenient to move around the city, it has some convenient stores, karaoke and restaurants near. Bear in mind, if you need to go out personal will ask you to leave the keys in the hotel, if you are not confortable with that maybe avoid
