I cannot say enough positive things about this beautiful and relaxing ryokan. The setting is stunning and a perfect example of Japanese gardens. Soaking in the onsen baths are the best way to relax after a day of travel or sightseeing. I enjoyed the morning by soaking in the outside onsen. The daily breakfast and dinners are called Kaiseki with multiple course and presented in the most beautiful ceramics and dishes. Our room hostess was so delightful and made our experience even better. Everyone at the Ryokan, from the people at the front desk to the lovely men at the doors were dedicated to making our stay better with a welcoming smile. Additionally, this Ryokan is located within a short walk to the town where many opportunities for sightseeing are possible. An impressive view of Mt Fuji was the cherry on top. We will go back.

Absolutely fantastic first time Ryokan experience. The service was incredible from start to finish. Teh took care of us and the Kaiseki in room meals were fantastic culinary adventures with local ingredients and immaculate display. Teh was SO NICE and really took great care of us - she served us every meal in room and made sure we had all we needed. Everyone spoke English and made it easy. We felt so relaxed and at home. And I have a shellfish allergy which is VERY hard in Asia; they made custom dishes for me in every meal to keep me healthy. Our room had tatami mats for beds and a private outside onsen that was gorgeous. It was a dream come true coming here! My only critique would be that there are obvious signs of aging throughout the room; the bathroom for example had terrible and dark 80’s fluorescent lighting that made it challenging getting ready. Overall highly recommended for an authentic ryokan onsen in a beautiful quiet area of Hakone!!

A magical, unforgettable experience at a traditional ryokan with superior service and attention to detail. We stayed in a room with a private outdoor garden onsen and enjoyed every moment of our stay. The dinner and breakfast were outstanding - delicious, generous, and meticulously prepared. We are especially grateful to Satoko who took care of us during our stay. We will always remember her thoughtful and kind service. Yoshimatsu is easily accessible by public transportation from Tokyo. There is a bus (the "R" line) that takes you pretty much directly from Hakone Yumoto train station to the bus stop in Hakone machine-ko. From there, it's a 5 minute walk to Yoshimatsu. They also offered to pick us up, but we enjoyed the walk through the quiet residential neighborhood. If you plan to stay a few days, I highly recommend picking up the multi-day Hakone Free Pass. The pirate ship that tours lake Ashi picks up passengers just down the street from Yoshimatsu. Very convenient way to see the lake and the famous and popular Torii Gate to the Hakone Shrine. Also in the vicinity of Yoshimatsu is the restored Hakone Checkpoint, an easy 10 minute walk. Yoshimatsu was a highlight of our visit to Japan and will be remembered as a beautiful experience.

This traditional Japanese inn was the perfect place to relax and wind down after 2 sightseeing days in Tokyo prior! We were greeted at the door and immediately given green tea and cookies. Our maid showed us our room which was absolutely beautiful. We stayed in one with a private onsen and the scenery felt like something out of an enchanted garden fairytale. The food was so fresh and exquisite and such an interesting experience. I highly recommend this ryoken as a pit stop on your trip from Tokyo to Kyoto!!!

An amazing stay in a beautiful tranquil place. Our room was a good size and the onsen was wonderfully relaxing. The food provided was plentiful and delicious, with a large range of Japanese dishes served for both breakfast and dinner, make sure you leave enough room for all 11 courses! However, the best thing about the place was the service, our nakai-san could not do enough for us, neither could the rest of the staff, they took time to remember you and what you needed, even to the extent of always bring my wife her green tea in her favourite cup for every meal. I cannot fault the service, meals or setting. With great access to Lake Ashi, and the Hakone circuit, which offers memorable views of Mount Fuji, this is an ideal location if you want a relaxing, calm element to your Japanese holiday.

I was able to reach the ryokan via self-drive using Google Maps. I thought I reached the wrong place but the staff seemed to be looking out for guests and signalled the direction to the entrance when I was outside which was great service! The highlight was the room which came with a very nice private outdoor onsen. However, there were a lot of mosquitoes at dusk when I used the onsen after I reached and could not wait. It was a lot better in the morning. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent.

Love the private bath in the room

Kasatsu Ryokan is located a five-minute walk from Hakone Checkpoint on the shore of Lake Ashi and a half-hour taxi ride from Odawara High Speed Rail Station. The transportation is very convenient. The hotel environment is very comfortable. If the weather is good, you can overlook Mount Fuji. The service attitude is particularly good, including two meals that can be enjoyed in the room, and the quality is very good. The hotel has public baths, family baths and private baths in some rooms, which are very suitable for travelers who come to relax on vacation.

What a luxury experience. From the moment we arrived, we were treated impeccably and made to feel very welcome. The freshly made matcha tea in the welcome room as we checked in came with an amazing view of Mount Fuji, then our maid took us to our “room”. When we booked the room, we didn’t realise it was the size of an apartment! A large hallway, 2 bedrooms, a dining room, a sofa area, bathroom - so much space! We were shown how to put on a yukata and there were instructions on how to use the onsen in the information pack in the room. My daughter only wanted to use the onsen if the private one was available and we were lucky to find it free at the first time of trying. Such a great experience, and my husband really enjoyed the public men’s one too. The gardens here are beautiful and we were lucky enough to see Mount Fuji both days, and got some wonderful photos of us in our yukatas amongst the scenery. The food we had here was exquisite - we were given a printed menu of all 11 courses at dinner so we knew what we were eating. It was quite a long time sitting on the floor but we just got up between courses to stretch our legs. We were very excited to eat blowfish and anglerfish. Breakfast was also very good. We loved how the children tried everything too - lots of new flavours! Check out was easy and they drove us to the local bus station in the morning, to go back to Odawara. We did the Hakone Loop on the day we arrived - ending with the pirate ship - make sure you check the timetable as we didn’t realise how early that was and had to rush at the end of the afternoon!

Absolutely magical! Once in a lifetime experience and the highlight of our Japan trip! The ryokan is beautiful and we made use of all the private and public onsens ( the one that came with our room category was a special treat!) I have always used my hotel as a “drop my stuff and go” place. This is where you come and stay and like they half joking told us “onsen before dinner, after dinner, and before and after breakfast”. The dinner is served elaborately in beautiful Japanese dishes. Very yummy sparkling sake too! I was hesitant to sleep on the floor due to neck and headache issues but surprisingly it was very comfortable and I slept great ( the air conditioning was amazing too). They have Yucatas to wear around the resort as well as pajamas and the nicest gentlemen by the shoes offered to take my daughter and my photo in the breathtaking garden. They have a service the next day where they take your luggage and send it to the train station in a secure location and they drop you off at the shrine and tori gate lake where you can board the pirate ship and cross over to ride the cable car. Me and my adult children will cherish the memory of our time spent here. highly recommend this ryokan!
