Aura Tachibana in Hakone

Aura Tachibana is a bit on the older side, but it is well maintained and has a lot of charm. The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and always willing to help, which really made our stay more enjoyable. The rooms were very clean, spacious, and comfortable, giving us plenty of room to relax. Both dinner and breakfast were good, with a nice variety of dishes and satisfying portions. What really stood out was how accommodating they were with food allergies within our group. In our experience, many Japanese places are not able to adjust meals for allergies, so this level of care and flexibility was especially appreciated and made us feel well looked after.

A real taste of Japan. Traditional style rooms were spacious and comfortable. Authentic Japanese breakfast provided samples of many foods. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Shuttle bus was exceptionally convenient. Stay here.

Probably one of the nicest places I've ever stayed

The room was gorgeous, traditional and warm. We had the private outside bath and it was nice and warm, perfect to contrast against the cold mountain air.

And the food is incredible, I received the traditional japanese breakfast which was absolutely loaded with seafood and pickled vegetables, and my partner who is allergic to seafood received a lovely western style breakfast.

All in all, I hope to come back Someday!

We spent there 2 nights a couple of weeks ago and had a really nice time. The hotel and restaurant staff were all very kind and helpful, the room was traditional, spacious and nice, the public onsen (indoor + outdoor) was great, too!
The food at the restaurant was very well prepared and presented! The staff was very careful with accomodating any dietary restrictions, and also served western type of breakfast upon request.
I had rated it on booking 9 out of 10 only because the bathroom and toilet in the room could use some renovation (the hotel was built in the 60s). Other than that everything was perfect!

Our stay at Aura Tachibana was an incredible introduction to the magic of a traditional ryokan. The atmosphere was serene and beautifully crafted, and the food was truly on another level — every course felt like a work of art.

They provide kimonos to wear during dinner, and although we were initially a bit unsure, we decided to go for it. Once we arrived at the dining area and saw that everyone else was wearing them too, it instantly felt like part of the authentic experience. It added something special to the evening.

The service was exceptional throughout. The waiter attending our table was extremely professional, attentive, and detailed in every interaction. The whole experience genuinely felt comparable to dining in a Michelin-star restaurant, both in quality and care.

Highly recommended for anyone wanting a refined and memorable ryokan stay.

I had amazing time with my family. Staff members are really nice and they know how to speak English so you don't need to worry about that. Free hot spring was nice and cozy. But if you pay¥4000 you can go to luxurious hot spring. But i think it is little bit over the price. Anyways for the price it is good value. I wasn't expecting a lot from here but they were really nice and i gad really comfortable stay.

Very well-staffed and friendly. Employees could communicate basic information in English, which was really helpful. Looked like a 24/7 phone interpreting service was also available, but we did not need this. The room was quite spacious. The (semi) private bath has a decent view if you choose to pay and RSVP for it, and there are a number of public baths to choose from. Dinner consisted of a 9-course meal, which was quite delicious and filling. Similarly, there was a good selection for breakfast too. Would stay again.

Amazing authentic Japanese onsen experience with 5 star dining. As a foreigner, you won't experience better.

A great place to stay and dine if you're looking for a traditional Japanese experience.

Awesome hotel. Not cheap (by a long shot), but if you can afford a quality experience and want to have access to in-room, private baths or public baths, then this is an excellent option. Courteous staff and excellently appointed rooms. Connecting shuttle from the train station to avoid Hakone's steep hills as well, if you arrive in the afternoon. One of the highlights of our trip.
