Hotel Dos Playas Faranda Cancun in Cancun

I stayed here for 10 nights. There are clearly different standards of rooms as the one I stayed in was incredibly clean albeit very dated. I spoke to someone else who had a much more modern room with usb charging points and touch on/off lights/mirrors etc. My room had none of that. The first room I was in 1204 had 2 double beds but on day 3 there was raw sewage coming up into the shower, unimpressed I reported it to reception who told me that if I wanted another room I needed to pack all of my belongings up and be out of the room by midday which I did. I was then told to go back to reception about 1 and then would give me another room. I was allocated room 1404 on the same block and just as dated but no raw sewage for the rest of my stay. This room had an enormous bed and a balcony to which the door did not lock properly so I wedged hair clip in the handle so it couldn't be opened from outside although it was also on the first floor so I wasn't hugely worried. The rooms were cleaned daily to a good standard.
Now onto the other facilities. There is a ghm which I used, basic but works, could do with a bit of a clean though.
The restaurant was okay, you can generally find something to eat, the restaurant staff had too many tables to deal with and weren't very attentive. You could be sat down for a good 15 minutes before the waiters would ask you if you would like a drink, you can watch them cleaning cutlery rather than paying attention to the customers, this is every mealtime unless the waiting staff takes a particular liking to you. When you go into the restaurant, you find yourself a table, the staff do not seat you. There is a fresh pizza place, pizzas are delicious but again the staff don't really pay attention to the customers. I asked for a New York pizza, I was told it would be 7 mins, they don't let you know that your pizza is ready, they just cut it up p, put it on a plate and you have to guess if it's yours. Also on my last day, I ordered a pizza, was told 20 minutes and then they didn't bother making it and of course you don't know if sny of them are yours because they don't tell you when yours is ready. You get a towel card (no extra cost) and then get a beach towel each day, great but when it rained and everyone ran for cover by the time I came back someone had taken my towel, I tried to sort this out at the towel hut but they didn't speak English and told ne to sort it out at reception which I did. The pool bad staff are generally friendly but the drinks are not strong. I asked for a pina colada and theg don't put alcohol in it unless you specifically ask, when I asked for a pina colada with extra alcohol they were still really weak, a quick squirt of white rum is the most you get. There was the annoying habit of, if you dont grab a sunbed at 8 in the morning then they are all reserved by selfish people putting their towels on them but not actually using them for hours, sometimes not until after lunch. I found a lot of the staff were not very helpful, they weren't particularly friendly and I am surprised that this hotel has got as many good reviews as it has. I would definitely not go back to Dos Playas Feranda and I would not recommend it either. I would have gone to a RIU if I knew this hotel was as poor as it is.

We had a group of 5 with three rooms. The rooms are dated and required maintenance. I liked the yard, peacocks and hammocks, The buffet was pretty small and limited but the food was good quality /average. Service in the main restaurant was good. The location was very close to the ferry and busses. Good view from the hill along the beach. I did not like the $550 peso environmental fee at check-in. The pools are cold and not heated. Staff were good, lady at front desk was unpleasant. I will spend a few $100 more for a nicer hotel next time.

Very bare room. No elevators. Pool not cleaned. Only buffet. Same food every day. Very dated hotel. Needs upgrade.
