Very nice

Whilst the room and view were very good, the truth is that’s only one small part of being welcoming or hospitable. When I called to reception to ask how the TV in the room worked the response was ‘ why, do you not have a tv at home ?’ How rude. Also the ‘ technician ‘ who was being sent to the room never arrived. The dinner was a dried up buffet, leftovers from lunch. We chose not to eat there again despite it being included in our price. The staff most unwelcoming and grumpy looking. No tea and coffee facilities in the room. No iron and when asked about it was told to use their laundry service. The laundry service was about €8 to iron one item and they required it before 7am in order to have it back by 9pm that day ?! So if you are travelling and need to iron something to go out to dinner that evening it’s simply not possible in this 4 star hotel. We tried not to let the rude staff ruin our whole trip but thank goodness we were only booked for two nights. The rest of Montenegro and everywhere we stayed was just wonderful but NOT the Avala in Budva.

I rarely write a negative review for any hotel, as I understand how challenging it is to satisfy guests in this industry. However, this property made little to no effort to deliver even basic hospitality.
From the moment we checked in, the experience went wrong. Our room keys were mixed up, our reservation was entered for one night instead of two, and most of the staff we encountered were dismissive and rude. There was one front desk associate who was genuinely kind and helpful, but the rest of the team set an unwelcoming tone that carried throughout our stay.
When I addressed the poor service, I was told I should “understand” because the team had experienced a long season. That response is unacceptable. Every guest deserves to be treated with the same care and respect, whether they arrive on opening day or at the end of the season.

The situation was made worse when staff entered our rooms despite “Do Not Disturb” signs being displayed. This is an inexcusable breach of privacy and completely unacceptable.

It’s clear that the issue lies in management rather than the individual front desk staff. We observed a lack of leadership, accountability, and training. The team appeared unsupported, which directly affects the guest experience.

The rooms themselves were mediocre—something that could have been overlooked had the service been attentive and professional. Unfortunately, it was not.
Lastly, I urge future guests to review their folios carefully. We encountered billing inaccuracies and found the handling of charges to be misleading at best.

In short, this hotel is poorly managed, lacks basic guest service standards, and shows little concern for feedback or improvement. I truly regret staying here. Positives are the pool and the location but that is it!

Amazing hotel, great location....beautiful view , great spa , jacuzzi, sauna , Turkish bath . It's great for anyone!!!!

The only saving grace of this hotel is the location. The breakfast was good. That’s about it.

The staff alternated between barely helpful to downright rude. The only time anyone was nice or even pleasant was during check out. The hotel is sterile of any character, design story, or charm. There is no iron or steamer available - only an ironing service. I was there for a wedding and urgently needed some ironing done. I had to call them 3 times and wait 2 hours to get this “service done” for 20€ and it wasn’t even well done. Our room was decent but multiple friends had issues with their shower flooding and the staff didn’t care or bother to help. Elevators were out of service, the hotel is a maze of hallways and stairs. For the amount of money paid I was shocked at the state of the hotel and service. Go somewhere else if you’re going to stay in Budva.

The rating system needs more than 5 stars for location. Steps away from not just a magnificent private beach but also the walls of Budva's wonderful old town. The hotel itself is first rate, our sea-facing balcony was had a bigger footprint than most hotel rooms I've seen. Breakfast was pretty good.

This hotel was absolutely amazing. We had a suite and they upgraded us and our room was enormous. They have a real workout gym and a beautiful pool area. I also had a massage and facial and booth were excellent. The breakfast is also plentiful. Would highly recommend

This was a really nice hotel. The location in Old Town Budva was absolutely perfect, super close to everything and the beach was gorgeous. The wait staff was quick and friendly whenever we needed drinks or food. Our villa was spacious and had a big balcony where we could just kick back and relax. Overall, it was a great experience. I’d definitely stay here again!

Words are not enough to say to express how wonderful this hotel is.
One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in! The breakfast is fantastic, with a variety of choice, and great coffee. Fresh fruit, pudding, cheese, and fresh pastry.
The location is perfect in the city centre, close to everything, with a private beach accesibile via an elevator!
The interior of the hotel is a work of art!
Highly recommended for a relaxing and luxurious stay!
03.06.2025 Guest
The room is a view room, and you can see the wall of the old city from the balcony, which is great! The hotel is very grand, with complete public facilities, but the facilities in the room are a bit old. If they can be upgraded, it will be more perfect. I will stay here next time. A beautiful lady at the front desk was very good. I like her. I forgot her name.

The hotel was in a great location, about 5 minute walk to old town which was nice; and directly on the beach where we spent most of our time. We had a great massage that was affordable, and the gym was excellent. The signage on property is poor, takes forever to find where you’re going. No entertainment which is a shame considering the aperitif bar is beautiful, but really unused. Breakfast is absolutely atrocious & not edible. We stayed in a villa and the bathroom smelled of urine the last 2 days, with bugs crawling from the shower drain. Definitely hard to get servers attention at both and beach and the bars on property. At the end of check out, we were charged for a Chardonnay that we didn’t drink. The front reception was arguing about us with it and we ended up paying for it. Probably wouldn’t return unless they fix their issues, especially since they advertise their property as 4 stars.

The only good part of the hotel is the location

The room are dated and have so many issues we have to move around in the bathroom with all drainage water coming out of the bathroom
The bathtub is just a showpiece which cannot be used as the water does not stay in the tub and goes out straight through the drain
Lights did not work

They did not even keep a blanket for us to sleep with in the night upon asking for a blanket they gave us one and expected us who are on vacation make our own bed

Upon talking to reception staff who are VERY VERY RUDE they are like what can we do it’s not our problem and they think they own us and we work for them

Is that the type of response expected from a resort which claims to be there since 1937 with over 300 rooms ?

Apart the location of the resort the experience of staying here is really HORRIBLE and I would recommend that any traveller should look at better alternatives next door
02.06.2024 Jason
First of all, the location is perfect - a few yards from the gate into Old Town and close to the modern shopping mall, the start of the promenade, and a grocery store. We stayed in the new building (sobe) with a balcony overlooking the sea and the old town. The room was huge, sleek, and modern but the view was the real prize. The breakfast buffet is generous with a wide range of self-serve selections (no omelette or other stations). I expected the big outdoor pool to be gimmicky but it turned out to be an awesome place to spend the afternoon watching the beach below and the boats pass by. Having walked a few miles down the beach I did not see another hotel that seemed to compare. I will caveat that we stayed in the new building and can’t comment on the rooms in the main building. Also, we are here a few weeks ahead of the summer season when things are more quiet. Two things to note. The main building and the new building are not connected in a sensible way and the direction of places on the resort are not intuitively marked (ie, it is easy to get turned around which is frustrating). Also, room service seems to shut down rather early. The prices are fair but maybe don’t wait until 8pm to order. In any event, there are plenty of good restaurants a 5 min walk away. In short, the location can’t be beat, our room was fantastic in all respects, and the amenities are top notch.

Hotel Avala Resort & Villas in Budva Old Town, Montenegro philippines. Hotel Avala Resort and Villas Budva.
The fairytale old town.
The Old Town (Stari Grad) is Budva’s showstopper, offering winding streets, historic churches and a centuries-old citadel to explore. But this walled fortress is also the ideal place to sit back and relax with a drink, or enjoy a spot of souvenir shopping in the quaint stores. Relax on the Budva Riviera
If you’re keen to top up your tan, you’ll find so much to admire in Budva – the surrounding region offers more than 15 high-quality beaches! The town lends its name to the Budva Riviera, a 35km strip of lush Adriatic coastline, which is home to secluded coves and islets.
Budva’s a haven for history buffs and sun worshippers, boasting a charming old town as well as a host of sandy beaches. But it’s not all about the past, there’s also an array of contemporary boutiques, restaurants and café-bars mingling around narrow streets of churches and bargain-selling shops. Podgorica is the capital city of Montenegro. Its rivers and bridges include the modern Millennium Bridge over the Morača River, and the stone bridge. Montenegro is therefore one of the newest internationally-recognised countries in the world. Montenegro is a Balkan country with rugged mountains, medieval villages and a narrow strip of beaches along its Adriatic coastline. The Bay of Kotor, resembling a fjord, is dotted with coastal churches and fortified towns such as Kotor and Herceg Novi. Durmitor National Park, home to bears and wolves, encompasses limestone peaks, glacial lakes and 1,300m-deep Tara River Canyon.

Have a business trip to this place (we lived abd worked at Avala) and I have no words to describe how it was disappointing.

Starting from minor problems like two times my room-access card stop working (yes, card was holding separately from phone and other things), continuing very disappointing and sometimes rude service in hotel's canteen (I can't name it "restaurant")

The most redicilolus moment was that there was breakfast, dinner and supper. Breakfast the cheapest, supper the most expensive.

All days only our company paid and have a dinners and suppers, and by some reason coffee and other drinks was available only for breakfast (when at the canteen was other guests).
Instead of juice there was only water. And even water was available now always.

There was a lot of other bad things but I'm tired to type, sorry.

Usually I'm not so hard in reviews, but this place by my opinion didn't deserve even one star:(

Lovely place to sit and eat/drink, friendly staff and nice food. Very reasonably priced, busy on a Sunday.

Avoid at all costs for food. We thought this would be good as the outdoor seating area was packed but my meal was dreadful. when I tried to complain the staff were argumentative, wouldn’t let me explain and threatened to call the police if I didn’t pay? I was happy to pay for my drinks and my partners meal but I didn’t touch the chicken on my plate as it was dry and tasteless. Luckily our waiter eventually decided to knock it off our bill. The one and only bad experience I’ve had while visiting Montenegro!

Only had breakfast here. Good service and atmopshere. The coffee and orange juice was great, so was the cheesecake. Only letdown was the poached eggs as they were hard boiled which goes against everything that a poached egg is about.
03.08.2022 Margrethe
Have not stayed at the hotel, but ate there. Note that regardless if you are having breakfast, lunch or dinner, you should not be in a hurry. It takes time, and two eggs on some bread could take 45 minuts. The food is good, price are decent, but the servers do not speak english very well, and more than once they didnt really understand what we ordered. So look at the bill if they actually got your full order when you get it after ordering. If you do go, I reccomend the Greek Salad or the pouched eggs.
