Riffelalp Resort 2222m in Zermatt

We stayed at the Riffelalp 2222 resort in Zermatt, which is regarded as a favorite holiday destination for the European upper class. However, the actual experience was full of problems and far from our expectations.

🚗 Traffic nightmare
To get to Zermatt, you need to take a train from Tasch into the town. To get to the hotel from Zermatt, you need to take a small train that runs every hour to the Riffelalp station. After getting off the train, you can either wait for the hotel to send a snowmobile to pick you up, or walk for 10 minutes. The long intervals between trains severely limit the flexibility of travel and cause great inconvenience to daily diet arrangements. The next train after 7:50 p.m. will not arrive until 9:50 p.m., which makes it almost impossible to return to the hotel on time after dinner.

🏠 The room is ridiculously small
The basic room has no view, you can only see the snow on the roof, and the space inside is small. After opening the suitcase, the indoor activity space is severely limited, and it is almost difficult to walk normally. Large items such as ski bags cannot be placed and can only be stored in the ski house.

👨🍳 Poor service attitude
There are obvious problems with the service management of the main restaurant. The restaurant manager's service attitude is arrogant. When I asked to order coffee at breakfast, I was refused. He asked me to find his colleague, and he was not responsible for ordering coffee. When I was wearing headphones and making a phone call in the restaurant during breakfast, I was stopped even if I tried to lower the voice. The foreigner next to me was also making a phone call but was not interfered with. The restaurant's prohibition of making phone calls during meals lacks clear rationality. It does not affect others.

🍽️ Poor dining experience
The quality of the dishes in the main restaurant Alexander is seriously inconsistent with the price, the food tastes poor, and the price-performance ratio is extremely low. In comparison, the Italian restaurant in the hotel performs well in taste.

💧 Details of additional charges
The tap water in the hotel has impurities, and the two bottles of water provided in the room are charged 8 Swiss francs per bottle. In addition, the round-trip ticket price for the small train going up and down the mountain is more than 40 Swiss francs, including the first time to go up the mountain.

Although Riffelalp 2222 Resort has advantages such as some rooms with Matterhorn views and comfortable outdoor pools, many defects such as inconvenient transportation, small rooms, poor service, catering problems and unreasonable charges have seriously affected the accommodation experience and are difficult to match its high-end positioning. Tourists who intend to go there should consider carefully to avoid disappointment.
