Baan Songjum Guest house

I remembered this one night when I went back from Chiang Rai trip, Nui was coming near my room and asked "how was it?". It really meant a lot to me. I felt welcomed and they are really caring about the guest. I moved to another host in Chiang Mai, but it was felt less like home, unlike Baan Song Jum.

Eventhough I came solo, in this place I never felt alone, I felt like staying in my grandma's house instead of wandering alone.

This place is perfect for you if you like local experience.

Nui is very friendly and accommodating making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. There's excellent facilities and the room was very clean. We can't wait to stay again!

A quiet and very friendly family compound a short walk from the historic center of Chiang Mai. Sisters Nui and Gun are both very interesting and worldly people who make their guests feel as though they are part of the family but without being intrusive. The rooms are very clean, well maintained and functional. F
Breakfast, fresh fruit, coffee and tea are available at no charge. I stayed for one week and it will be my first choice if I'm in Chiang Mai again.

Am currently staying here for eight days. Booked a queen bed with private bathroom. Bathroom has a sink, toilet with bidet spray head and a heating unit for hot water on the wall to shower with. It takes a bit of getting used to closing the door and showering standing with the toilet to the left, sink to the right and water spraying all over the place. Toilet paper is not to be flushed down the toilet but thrown in a garbage can if you use it. You are expected to use the bidet spray and hose yourself clean after you do your business.
The owner and her sister go out of their way to speak with you at every opportunity and want to be sure you are happy and well taken care of. The owner is a dog rescuer and currently has a brother and sister pair named Frank and Lana. There is a communal area to eat at and or socialize with other guests.
I booked this place because its a 15 minute walk to SEE TEFL language school and like the quiet patio full of plants and wildlife.
I call it a compound because there is the kitchen and patio in the middle and rooms on each side looking into the patio. The place is gated to keep the dogs in.
Directly across the street is a small restaurant and a little further down a higher end restaurant that backs up to the river. It is a short walk to the bridge that takes you over the river into the older part of the city.
The bed is very firm which I like. There is a fan with 4 speeds that keeps the air circulating nicely. There is no closet but a wide shelf to put your suitcase on. I use the area under the curtains to lay out alot of my clothes. Wifi works well and I have been streaming Netflix on my phone without any issue.
For what you pay here, it is a real bargain if you like peace and quiet and privacy. There is occasional noise at night from distant animals. I am very happy to be staying here.

Nui and her sister are the absolute best! They take each guest in and treat them like family. My brother and I had a hard time leaving and will absolutely stay with them again next time we're in Chiang Mai. They helps us rent scooters from a reliable company and coordinated drop off and pick up, they helped direct us how to get around to different areas and the cost to go different places and recommended some of their favorite restaurants. Added bonus, Frank and Lanna, their adorable dogs.

The owner and her sister are very friendly and will do everything possible to help you. They treated us like our mothers so we felt very welcomed and secure at their place. They gave us some tips on things to visit around the city and the cost of taxi/bus do we wouldn't be scammed. They even shared some of their lunch food the day we left because we didn't had time to buy anything. The place is great and feels like a jungle with lots of birds and fishes. It's located in a quiet place but in walking distance of everything. They also have some lovely dogs!

Amazing stay!!!very close to everything in Chiang Mai!!!old city is easy to go by foot!!!night market and many local restaurant very close!!!room perfect!!!the lady is just something amazing!!she is lovely very helpful and she run the business in a way that you can feel home!!!in act is home far from home!!!her and her sister and her son are amazing people!!!

Very nice and quite place to stay in chaing mai.delicius breakfast.the lady was very nice host fell like we where at home.sure if i will be back in chaing mai i will book again

Baan Song Jum Homestay is very convenient in terms of going to the old city, as you can walk your way through it or take the red vans that would cost around 30 bhat/each. But if you prefer to ride, it's best to book grab or uber to avoid inconsistent fare whenever the red van drivers recognizes that you're a tourist.

You have to walk just a few meters from the road to the location. This what makes the place peaceful and quiet. It's not literally beside the roadside, keeping all the noise out.

The room is very nice, clean, and airconditioned. Bathroom is well maintained and clean. They have heater for the showers and bidet for the toilet.

Help yourself for free breakfast with bread, egg, coffee and some jams. They have a big dining area outside the kitchen enough for you to sit anywhere you want, but we preferred staying inside the kitchen. ? Ofcourse, you must clean as you go.

The owner (Nui) is very accomodating and helpful. She would recommend places to visit and provide details on how to get there and how to get back. She would make you feel like you're really part of their family, always with warm welcome ?

As a tourist, if you're looking for a place that would give you a good night sleep and a nice hot shower, I would recommend this place. After all, you'll be spending the day out and would just need to have enough rest to go out again.

Oh by the way, they have dogs. But no worries, they're friendly. If you're a dog lover, this wouldn't be a problem. So two thumbs up for Baan Song Jum! Would recommend this place to friends and family. ??
