Westover Arms Hotel in Miami Beach

Positives: Big open room. Large refrigerator with ice maker (water dispenser broken unfortunately). Front desk answers the phone most of the time (but they do not call you back if you leave a message). They went from 2 to 3 stars for printing our cruise luggage tags for us.

Negatives: lots of single paned windows with cheap 1” miniblinds that do not block light or dampen sound. Curtains really aren’t that expensive and if you got thick curtains, it would block out the ridiculous amount of honking and noise. It would also keep me from being awakened in an incredibly bright room as soon as the sun comes up. This may not be as problematic on rear facing rooms, but we were third floor facing street, Very loud.

Don’t believe that you’ll be able to watch TV in the room. I know you don’t come to Miami to watch TV, but at some point it’s nice to be able to turn on the TV and wind down, or in my case I wanted some background noise to block out the ridiculous outside noise . They should fire DIRECTV and get with the new times. The Wi-Fi is decent after I asked them to reset the modem because it wasn’t working very well. Network TV and streaming would fix a lot of problems, but the satellite pixelates every five seconds. The worker came up and just said what’s the problem, that is what satellite does. Um, no, not on a clear night.

Please put some coffee in the room when there is a coffee maker already there. It’s not expensive and it’s a great luxury after a terrible night of sleep.

For me ultimately the value of a hotel is ability to relax and get a good night sleep. We were planning to come back after the cruise, but they failed at this, so I cancelled the room for next week.

The room was a good size plenty of space to spread out and move around. The bed was small in the bedroom. They should put king size beds but it is not. They did accommodate one hour extra for check out at no additional charge which was nice. There is no onsite parking and it is difficult to unload/ load your luggage due to limit space in front of the hotel. The only major issue for us was the ice cold water. We could not shower on the morning because there was zero warm or hot water. Only ice cold water. For this reason I would not stay there again.
