Folia Apartments in Agia Marina

Myself & my hubby visited Agia marina & had a lovely 10day break at The Folia hotel. The hotel is a small, friendly family run hotel. All areas of the hotel were spotlessly clean & all the staff were so friendly. We spent quite a bit of time around the pool/ bar area & were looked after very well by Costas & Marina. The hotel is in a quiet area but within walking distance of lovely tavernas, local shops, supermarkets etc.. If you are looking for a relaxing break, this is the place to go!

We have stayed at Folia Hotel & Apartments in Agia Marina several times now since our first visit in 2014. It’s the only holiday resort we’ve ever really returned to and we’ve now been there about 8 times. Folia Hotel has become our home from home. It is a traditional Greek Hotel run for many years by the same family, Giannis Milonakis and his brother, Nikos, whom have become our true friends. They and their staff including Marina and Kostas are all genuinely friendly and help out with any requests or questions. The hotel is Adult Only and it is very well kept, maintained and cleaned and every time we arrive there, we notice improvements that have been made since our previous visit. The pool area is always very clean, well maintained and there are generally enough sun-beds for most people who want one. (No early morning “reserving” shenanigans needed here). There are great views of the sea, Theodoru Island, the mountains and indeed Chania in the distance, from some rooms depending on which side of the hotel you are staying in. The morning buffet breakfast selection is excellent albeit, personally, we prefer to opt out and have a larger lunch and evening meal, There is a Folia Lunch Menu and Bar Drinks around the pool, terrace and raised dining room. They have also started serving some incredible salads a few days each week. You should all try their “Summer’s Nest” Salad. As well as the salad, it includes a mixture of figs, cranberries, orange, walnuts, feta cheese and honey dressing. It quite simply tastes wonderful !!! In the evening there is a choice of several Traditional Greek/Cretan Family Tavernas in Agia Marina Old Town which is a 10-15 minute walk away. If you enjoy Greek food you will look forward to trying a different restaurant every night. It’s about 5-10 minutes walk away to the lovely long sandy beach which is accessible from various points along the Main Road, although it’s a bit longer returning as it’s uphill that way. The sea is shallow and there are some beach sun-beds for free if you buy a drink or meal from the relevant bar/restaurant. Well worth it! The town of Chania is a short drive or (about) 15 minute bus ride away and it has a wonderful Venetian harbour and lighthouse as well as an ancient mosque that is now used as an exhibition hall. A stroll around the back streets near the harbour is a must with all their traditional small shops, bars and restaurants and it’s easy to get lost there although the other side of the harbour is now becoming quite young and trendy. All in all, we just love Folia Hotel, the genuinely friendly Milonakis family and staff, the views available and its proximity to pool, beach, shops and tavernas. There is plenty to do and see both nearby and across Crete. You can do as much or as little as you want but, either way, you will enjoy a fabulous holiday.

This was our first visit to Crete and the Folia and I can see why so many people return. The hotel inside and out was kept immaculately clean. We had lunch there regularly and their salads were lovely! The owners and staff are attentive, friendly and very helpful. Kostas in particular provided a friendly, happy and welcoming face around the pool. Yes the hotel is located on a hill. We are in our 60’s and managed it no problem (we are active). The Folia is a short walk from the beach, with a number of supermarkets and a great variety of tavernas within easy walking distance. Its elevated position provided great views from our balcony. Whilst there were a couple of days in the fortnight we struggled to get a sun lounger, we went to the beach . The beach had plenty of bars with sun loungers and parasols which you can rent and the ones we went to provided a voucher to the value of the rent and you can order drinks/food the cost of which is discounted against the voucher, which negates the cost of the sun loungers. The beach itself was great and well worth spending some time there. Chania is delightful and so easy to get to by bus and well worth visiting. I can see why so many people rated this place highly and I would definitely go back again.

Just returned home from another fantastic holiday at Folia. As always the management and staff all went the extra mile to make our stay perfect. The hotel is immaculate. Fantastic pool. Breakfast and luch are first class. The attention to detail exceptional. Just arrived home this morning after our trip to Crete. What can I say about this hotel, that hasn’t already been said before? It’s an absolute gem! Set up on the hillside away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets and bars, but with a very good proximity to the beach, it was a tranquil and peaceful place to relax by the pool and enjoy the Cretan sunshine. The pool bar has excellent cocktails, smoothies and stocks the local Cretan beer, Charma (which I loved) and the snack menu is great too. We ate lunch twice, and I can highly recommend the Gyros Plate! We only ate breakfast once, but the choice was good and the quality excellent, we just aren’t big breakfast people. The staff cannot do enough for you, and work so very hard to ensure the place is kept clean and totally spotless, glasses are cleared from around the pool almost immediately and there is no pressure to buy more drinks, which is something I have to say is a huge thumbs up. The greenery around the hotel just adds to what is already a lovely atmosphere. If you need any help or advice, the staff are so helpful and can provide you with advice for places to eat out, things to see and do and so much more. We picked a sea-view room and the vista was stunning! Our room was neatly presented with cutlery, crockery and a range of cooking tools and a fridge. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom spotless, with towels changed regularly and the room cleaned on a daily basis. So overall, I would recommend the Folia to everybody, we had such an enjoyable stay and if we return to Crete in the future, we wouldn’t consider booking anywhere else. We had a wonderful stay at Folia Hotel. From the moment we arrived, Nikos, Giannis, and all the staff made us feel so welcome and genuinely cared for. The room was spotless and cosy, the pool was peaceful and perfect for relaxing, and the food and cocktails were absolutely delicious. There’s such a calm, homely atmosphere here; you can really feel the heart and effort everyone puts into making your stay special. From first-timers to definite returners, we’ll be back to our little nest at Folia.

Staying at Folia is more than 5 stars. When you arrive at this beautiful place you are welcomed and serviced in all mathers. Folia is amazing - spotless clean, nice rooms, great staff - and a place where time stands still. It’s perfectly located - just 100 meters of the mainroad - it gives you a nice and quiet feeling. Perfect for enjoying your perfect holiday. We will definitely keep coming back and can highly recommend the place.

My partner and I stayed at Folia for the fourth time and I must say it never disappoints. Giannis and Nikos the owners are always friendly and welcoming as are the cleaners, bar staff and kitchen staff, The whole hotel is spotlessly clean and tidy . The breakfast is always lovely with plenty of choice . The bar serves the local Cretan beer (Charma) which is fantastic. There’s no evening meals but there are hundreds of great restaurants within a short walk. There s Lovely beaches ️ 5 minutes walk away The bus service is great and very cheap There really is something for everyone , And If your there on a Tuesday night go into Chania for the Cretan festival Evening called Strata It was fantastic Live traditional music and dancing a really great atmosphere

Fantastic hotel The reviews are true. Right from the start our holiday at Folia Hotel was incredible. On booking I emailed the hotel requesting twin beds as I was travelling with my 15 year old son. A double bed would have been a disaster for him! They replied promptly to confirm we would have twin beds. I emailed again before departure and they replied “it will be perfect” it was! Folia arranged our taxi from the airport. €43. The taxi was waiting for us when we arrived. On arrival at the hotel we were met by the owner who checked us in and took our bags to our room (36). We had been allocated a family room (double bed and 2 singles) with a sea view. This was definitely an upgrade on the room I had booked. The room was very spacious, with a fridge and 2 hob rings, crockery cutlery and a kettle and coffee maker. The room was so clean, spotless and the beds were the most comfortable I have ever experienced on holiday. The shower was excellent with perfect hot water when needed. The pool area is also immaculate. The loungers are so comfortable and no reserving them with towels allowed so always available. The ladies who worked at the pool so attentive bringing drinks to your bed/table and promptly collecting empty glasses. Vacated beds straightened out and parasols put up/down for you. Great selection of drinks available. Lunch is available until 3pm, not a vast menu but perfectly adequate, my son liked the club sandwich. We were room only but did have breakfast twice, delicious and great choice. The only thing I would change would be the time the bar closes (9pm) this means after our evening meal we couldn’t sit and have a drink which I would have enjoyed, and as a sole adult may have given a little social interaction with other guests. Just a couple of extra hours until 11pm would have been great. The hotel is short walk to a handful of great restaurants and 10 minutes down hill to the beach. The hill is not that steep but our room at the back of the hotel is up a hill and may be an issue for the mobility impaired. The Beach is fantastic. Lots of restaurants with sunbed to choose from. Sunbeds very reasonable price (€8 - €15 for 2 for the day) and great lunches. Lifeguards and water sports available. Overall, this does not feel like a 3* hotel, more a luxury 5* boutique hotel. A fantastic place to relax and unwind in a wonderful resort. I hope to return and recommend the Folia Hotel if you are looking for a relaxing, boutique hotel experience. It was “Perfect”

Just back from a glorious week in Folia Apts. Spotlessly clean hotel and rooms cleaned daily. Beds so comfortable. We had an amazing sea view (room 18). All the staff so friendly and accommodating. Location was perfect, close to beach no more than 10mins walk downhill- coming back up the hill a bit longer but got easier as days went on. It is steep. Restaurants close by too but make sure to get directions to the ones not on the Main Street but in the little area near Minos Village Apts. Very chilled out week. Loved it thank you
