Captain Vasilis Hotel in Chania Town

We absolutely loved our stay at Captain Vasilis Hotel in Chania Old Town! The room with a balcony was spotless, beautifully decorated, and had a stunning view of the harbor. The location couldn’t be better — just a few minutes’ walk to parking, restaurants, and all the highlights of Old Town.

A special thank-you to Constantina, our wonderful receptionist, who made our stay truly unforgettable. She helped us book dinners and arrange breakfast daily, always greeting us with a warm smile every time we left or returned — it felt just like family. On our last day, when we unfortunately had food poisoning, she went above and beyond by bringing us a late breakfast and helping us find nearby pharmacies. Her kindness and genuine care meant so much to us.

We can’t thank the team enough for such a comfortable and memorable experience. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Chania — you’ll feel right at home! 💛🇬🇷

Stayed upstairs in a room with a balcony in late June/July and had a lovely time. Beautiful views and close to everything but set back enough (although depending on the wind you’ll hear the late-night bars across the harbour). Vasilis is very laid back and gave us some good recs. Sorted out my lost key card quickly. Parking in town wasn’t as bad as I expected except if you look for a spot late at night.

Highly recommend! The location was amazing.. short walk to everything, including the parking area outside of the old town. Great communication prior to our stay and met with a friendly face. Family run business in a converted house which was filled with beautiful period features. Delicious breakfast with gorgeous terrace/courtyard views. Clean and comfortable room! Very affordable, extremely happy with this accommodation.

Very authentic small hotel inside the old town and on a quiet street. I really enjoyed the atmosphere here. The owner Vasilis was friendly and kind Person. Breafkast made fresh every morning from local products. Restaurants and sandy beach on a walking distance. This place was a perfect base to explore Chania.

Excellent hotel run by the owner. He did everything and made our stay enjoyable, Vasilis provided great recommendations for where to visit and eat. But one standout is just how beautiful the hotel is and where it is located. You are front and center over the water and staying in the hotel takes you back in time. Living in old town is where you want to be and this is the best hotel to do that. Everything felt homey. The only challenge with staying anywhere in old town is that there is no parking and very hard to find, so you have to bring in your luggage by foot. We had a hard time finding parking around TALOS square and also got a parking ticket, so that is the price you kind of have to pay for staying there.

This small hotel is perfectly situated a 5 min walk from the free parking area, yet nestled within the charming old town of Chania. The hotel dates back to the 16th Century and is steeped in old world charm. That is not to say that the rooms are dated, on the contrary, there is the latest air conditioning units, Nespresso coffee machines, a small fridge, toiletries, bathrobes, slippers and wonderful modern showers ….. the bed was very comfy also. Breakfast was Continental based with freshly squeezed orange juice, meat, cheeses, cereals, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, pastries and a choice of boiled, fried and scrambled eggs cooked to order. The view from the communal roof terrace across the harbour was amazing, both during the day and at night. If mobility is an issue, you should request a ground floor room as the stairs are quite steep. The owner, Vasilis, who is the grandson of Captain Vasilis, provides a very friendly warm welcome both in the morning and on return to the hotel. All in all we had wonderful experience.

Great location in the midst of Old Town, with nice view of the harbour from the balcony. The hotel owner went above and beyond with helpful recommendations of sites to see, places to visit and restaurants all of which were ideal for what we were looking for. Rooms were nice and cleaned daily, would definitely visit again!

Fabulous stay! Stunning location, and rooms well equipped with everything you need. Vassilis is so friendly and helpful with tips of things to do and see. Breakfast also excellent especially the greek yoghurt and freshly squeezed orange juice.

We had a fantastic stay at this charming hotel. The owner is present throughout most of the day and provided exceptional service. We stayed in the balcony room which had a beautiful view of the Venetian harbour. Location was great for walking to a wide selection on restaurants. Because it is right on the harbour, you will hear the recycling trucks coming through at 5:30 in the morning. Closing the shutters helped, if you’re sensitive to sound you might want to pick a room not facing the harbour. Highly recommend for anyone staying in Chania
