Akti Beach Club in Kardamaina

Do you know the definition of a tourist trap? According to the show Honest Guide, it’s an establishment where you pay more money for lower-quality services. Unfortunately, this definition applies perfectly to the Akti Beach Club hotel. This hotel presents itself as a luxurious five-star property. Unfortunately, the main problem for me is that this is a lie, and the hotel is therefore misleading its customers and refuses to admit it. It’s at most a three-star hotel, if that. Here are all their shortcomings: 1. Rooms and interior – The interiors and room furnishings are old and worn out. They should have been replaced long ago. We encountered a broken door handle, dirty walls, disgusting curtains, blankets full of pills, red ants crawling all over the room, a rusty bathroom faucet estimated from 1985, a rusty and disgusting balcony, and a chipped soap dish. Don’t expect to receive shampoo, conditioner, soap, a sewing kit, or a bathrobe—these things simply do not exist at this hotel. The fridge is empty; they claimed that in our type of accommodation, minibar restocking was not possible. You also don’t get paper and a pen; your room cards are handed over in an envelope with the room number written by hand in pencil. There is one cheap refill dispenser for something that’s supposed to serve as soap, shampoo, and conditioner all at once. The walls are so thin you can hear someone snoring in the next room. There’s a smell from the sewage treatment plant or something similar, and the drain emits odors. In my room, the air conditioning from the neighboring room was loudly humming, which the staff tried to fix (but only partially succeeded). At the bar, music is played loudly, which annoyed me, especially because they kept playing the same songs over and over, and the Italian animation programs were shouting. Cleaning, however, was adequate. 2. The hotel restaurant – This deserves a separate chapter. The interior looks like a cheap motel: beams are made of painted metal, chandeliers are dusty for at least 20 years, with crows sitting on them. The restaurant interior, cupboards, etc., are semi-collapsed. Chairs and tables are dirty, old, and worn; some are plastic. Cutlery is limited—you get only one set, not freely available. The floor is dirty, and the placemats they give you are terrible—torn, greasy, with leftover food. Beverage machines are also dirty. The food is good, but nothing exceptional—just the same as in many other hotels in Greece. 3. Overall hotel impression – The hotel feels cheap and low-quality. The pool is nothing special. The bar is just a small hut where you can pour water or overly sweet soft drinks; there are no snacks, and cheap plastic chairs and tables are all it offers. The exterior is at most three-star quality; the reception is scratched, old, and the sofas are sagging. Reception staff had poor English and were unable to solve our problems. I'm not sure where to start. The food, the pools and complex are nice. We didn't see any of the entertainment staff all week. So if you are staying in the adults only section then expect to be forgotten about. When I did see them they never even said hello. They aren't your usual lively 'get involved' team. Which to me is a big part of a package holiday. The rooms in the adult only section are some what to be desired. We had to change rooms as our balcony was walled off. I think they ran out of rooms and were just sticking guests anywhere. Our room number wasn't even on the hotel map. It makes me think it was an old staff bedroom. It was very dated and didn't look anything like what the holiday provider had on their website. Once you hooked the shower onto the wall you couldnt get in as the hose ran diagonal across the bath. I think it was an old hand held shower that they tried to bodge. The plug hole was sort of a green colour as it was so old. I have stayed in nicer hotels that were half the price. So if you are thinking you are coming to a so called 5* hotel (as that's what they class themselves, and you do have to pay the 5* room tax) then think again. It is more 3* I am afraid. Which I don't mind, but not for the £2000 a week I paid. It wasn't just us that had issues with our rooms, I know of 2 other parties with disabled members who were put upstairs. It was said it was at 120% capacity. Wealth over customer satisfaction unfortunately. There isn't really much to do either. While the marketing is good, in reality it is just a week to sit by the pool. If you like your beach holidays then this isn't for you. While I can cope with a pebbled beach from time to time this was next level. They have tried to place white sandbags creating a walk way into the sea, but even I struggled.
