Occidental Aurelia in Rome

Unfortunately, our stay was not a pleasant with multiple issues making this a 2 star hotel at best with a 4 star price.

- Reception staff was rude at check in and check out, seemingly more interested to be on the phone chatting with their mates. An automated kiosk would have been more pleasant/efficient.

- The hotel location is absolutely dreadful, the only pedestrian access is through a very busy road with an extremely small pavement making it very dangerous and easy to be hit by a car. This small pavement is also a relatively long walk. Very unsafe for families or elderly people.

- The breakfast offer was dreadful, very cheap low quality products from cheap supermarkets and a very poor and small selection, also probably the worst coffee in all of Italy.

-The room was spacious but in high need of urgent and essential maintenance, shower was leaking, toilet was leaking, lights not working, every pierce of furniture was wonky , no soundproofing and the fire alarm light was on top of the bed blinking all night.

- The only positive was a stellar housekeeping team.

We were really disappointed with our stay at Occidental Aurelia. The hotel exterior looked dull and in need of maintenance, not what you'd expect from a 4-star hotel.

The garden was lovely and the pool looked big, but it was covered during our stay (likely due to the rain). Staff were friendly and the reception area was decent.

Rooms were fairly comfortable, but there was a strong perfume smell that lingered, bad for those with allergies. The shower had no direct lighting, making it awkward to use, and the hairdryer kept switching off every 30 seconds.

Soundproofing was awful, you could hear every door open, close, and every footstep in the halls throughout the night. It was really hard to get decent sleep.

We had breakfast included, but couldn’t attend our final morning due to an early departure. Reception offered a breakfast box instead, unfortunately, it was very disappointing. It included a jam croissant, a tiny packaged toast, an apple, a juice box, and a water bottle. It felt more like a kids' party pack than a proper breakfast.

City tax was also ridiculously high, €90 for four people over three nights (€7.5 per person, per night as stated on their website. They are not to blame as it's explicitly stated, but still quite high). We stayed in several hotels across Europe and none came close to that amount.
