Pension Chauchau in Hakuba

Really enjoyed the stay here! The place feels cozy and comfortable overall.
The shower is shared and located in the basement, with two rooms available. Each one is fully private with a proper door, so no worries at all. They also provide disposable towels, and you can find hair dryers outside the bathrooms on both the first and second floors.
The owner is friendly and can communicate well in English. Breakfast was good, and dinner is definitely worth trying.
Plus, there’s a discount for the gondola at Hakuba Goryu Snow Resort, which is a nice little bonus!

We stayed at Pension Chauchau for 10 nights and it was such a pleasant experience. Both owners, Hitachi-san and Mika-san, were very kind and polite. They always greeted us with big smiles, which made us feel very welcome.
The place is clean, tidy, and very cute. The building has three floors. The basement level has the onsens and a storage area for skis and snowboards, as well as a vending machine for guests’ convenience. The ground floor has a shared community room and dining area, along with shared toilets. The second floor has nine bedrooms, two toilets, and a hot and cold drink dispenser with complimentary snacks.
There is free transportation to and from Escal Plaza, which is just a minute’s walk from the pension. There are also many beautiful restaurants and a 7-Eleven within walking distance. We were very happy with how convenient everything was, and the surrounding area is beautiful, peaceful, and quiet.

This was my third stay here! The food is absolutely delicious, and they even serve homemade bread for breakfast! This time I only opted for breakfast, but in the Hakuba area, finding dinner can sometimes be a challenge, so having dinner included definitely makes for a more relaxing and comfortable stay. There are also two private family baths, and the rooms are kept very warm with heaters. If you let them know in advance, it seems you can also purchase lift tickets for Goryu at a discounted rate for guests!

A very affordable and unique place. The only downside is that the walk to the showers in the basement is a bit far. Otherwise, everything is great and lovely.

Booked a triple room but it had four beds, making the room a bit cramped. The breakfast was excellent, with a great variety and generous portions of bread. The shared bathroom was fine, as I could lock the door for privacy. However, the upstairs restroom was a bit awkward since it was co-ed. The hosts, a couple, were incredibly nice. We bought Onsen tickets from them at a good price, and the Onsen itself was fantastic.

This is a cute place,although I came here in November it going to snow season but we’re too early to come with out update anything, so then i missed many activities on Hakuba and this place feel like japan traditional style and vibe soft and warm

The meals in the evening and in the morning were delicious! I went in the middle of summer, but it was so cool and comfortable that I was able to sleep with the windows open at night without turning on the air conditioner. I was a little worried about the unisex toilets on the second floor, but the toilets on the first floor were separated for men and women, so I used the one on the first floor.
The owner was also very kind, and after checking out, he drove me to the nearest station. This was very helpful as I had a lot of luggage. The price was also reasonable, so I was very satisfied. I would like to use this hotel again on my next summer trip to Nagano.

A very good family hotel (feels like it's run by a family), the room is clean, tidy and warm, the staff is very enthusiastic and patient, the breakfast and dinner are delicious, dinner is booked extra, 2800 yen per person, the whole French set meal, very pleasantly surprised, although the room does not have a toilet but it does not feel inconvenient, the shower room has a circulating hot water bathtub. You can feel the owner's care, recommended
