Reviews
Unlike in Taiwan, Japanese guesthouses typically have separate toilets and washrooms.
Perhaps because the local temperature is generally lower, the washroom has heating, and the bathtub has a temperature control panel, which is very useful in winter. The bathtub is quite large; an adult can comfortably soak in it.
The kitchen is fully equipped, with standard tableware, pots and pans, and a coffee machine. After a long day of sightseeing, you can enjoy a refreshing cup of coffee after a relaxing shower – a thoughtful touch.
The dining area has four high chairs, and a TV is at the table. The first floor felt small but perfectly formed, with more amenities than most hotels in Taiwan. However, due to the limited space, the space utilization was more efficient.
The second floor has a rustic style, with entrances on both sides that connect to each other, all dedicated to sleeping areas. Our group of three adults and four children had plenty of room for seven beds, which was very comfortable. The only drawback was the abundance of decorative art pieces; we were worried about children damaging them, so we had to be very careful. However, adults would likely experience a different kind of accommodation, feeling as if they were in an elegant Japanese-style house.
I really liked the room's decor; overall it was great. The only downside was that the stairs connecting the first and second floors were very steep (probably due to limited space). So, if you have elderly people or children, you really need to be careful about their safety. Also, guesthouses in Japan are generally small, so there's not much room to move around if you spread out your luggage.
Will return to it quite soon! :D

Near to Kyoto Station, bus stops, and subway station.
Also near laundromat, convenience store, and food stall.
The service on this place is good. The owner is a foreigner, probably German. He speaks English well and is friendly too. Overall, I would give "service" a 4.6.
The location of this place is kind of good, it's just 500 metres away from the train station. It's also near a big. beautiful garden. Overall, I would give "location" a 5.0.
Alright, we have gone through all the things now. Do I recommend this place? Yes, if you wish to sleep in a traditional ryokan but you also want to explore Kyoto. Overall, I would give this place a 4.1.
We luckily had a pleasant stay last week, just 1 night in our 10 nights in Japan. Our room is on 2nd floor.
Got a deal of 25% price lower than the APA nearby so we set our expectations at the beginning to experience a Ryokan in Kyoto.
The room we had was fine, toilet is bigger than some other hotel. The Aircon in our room works just fine.
The host can speak English, Jacob was also very helpful with information he shared on our travel itineraries.
Self checkout makes it easy for you to leave the guesthouse anytime just like most of Japanese hotel.
It could be much cleaner indeed, but it's very difficult to get a decent hotel at our budget so we are fine with this place.
Maybe because we spent the whole day walking Kyoto and only get back to sleep.
