KANSUIRO, Hakone1 / 16
9.1
Hakone, Tonosawa; 88 (8 km from centre) 🧭 Map
A beautiful, clean, comfortable room, delicious breakfast. The hotel provides free access to the main ancient onsen building, and we were lucky to be in the onsen without any people. We had a wonderful time and relaxed
Traditional Japanese ryokan with private hot spring feed bath option. Public indoor and outdoor baths. Sit on floor while eating multicourse meal in your room. Serve by lady in kimono. Sleep on floor.
Fantastic location, just next to the bus stop. Our room is spacious, in fact is the most spacious in the annex. The breakfast is simple yet delicious. The outdoor onsen is small but the ambience is great
It was also great! Of course, there will be sound insulation problems when staying in a Japanese-style hotel, which is difficult to avoid, but overall it is very comfortable!
A very old ryokan founded in 1614, the building is from the beginning of the 20th century. Wood, everything creaks, just great. The main building is practically a museum
It's a quaint old building, but it has a nice, lived-in feel. I found it a little inconvenient that there was no toilet in the room

My only drawback was the huge number of stairs, but for those without knee problems, this isn't a problem. The hotel offers a shuttle, but only from the nearest train station and at very limited times
I wanted to book a shuttle and emailed them, but I didn't receive a response with the terms until a few days later, when I was already at the hotel. The food was wonderful—very tasty and plentiful
Room is with mountain view. Kaiseki dinner is absolutely new experience. Welcome sweets are very nice too. The whole atmosphere is amazing. Great place for cultural experience and relaxation.
We had a room with a beautiful view from the window, and it was very clean. Nothing was broken or damaged. The furniture wasn't new, but that had an authentic charm
The gas stove, air conditioner, and humidifier worked perfectly, so the room was very warm despite the cold weather
Drinks are available for purchase right at the hotel. I also really liked the onsen. The girl who served our breakfasts and dinners was wonderful

Sushi Auberge Gorasaryo, Hakone1 / 25
9.0
Hakone, 1300-693 Gora (7 km from centre) 🧭 Map
The location is not very convenient, so it is recommended to rent a car or drive yourself; The surrounding environment of the hotel is very good, and there is also a cable car; Breakfast and dinner were great, and the sushi chef was very considerate
The property was absolutely wonderful. We had the best host. The traditional, hot spring baths were wonderful That is a traditional Japanese hotel a very comfortable and welcoming, and it made for fantastic memories
A great ryokan! Dinner is long and interesting, alcohol is not included, mostly sushi, made right in front of you. A private onsen is bookable by the hour for your group, and there are only six rooms in the onsen
This ryokan is a true gem in Gora! We were looking for an authentic Japanese style inn and this did not disappoint! We came into the experience blind with almost no idea what to expect
They went out of their way to arrange vegetarian breakfast and dinner for my wife on a short notice. Private onsen after a long day was great. Dinner on both nights had different menu
It was a really amazing stay! Service is amazing, food is amazing, environment is amazing and of course the onsen! Welcome everyone to come here!

Hakone, Gora 1320-72, 250-0408 Hakone, uezd Asigarasimo, Prefektura Kanagava, Yaponiya (7 km from centre) 🧭 Map
Location: On the quiet mountainside, be sure to get off at the Gora Cable Car Station on the right! Otherwise, I would be completely confused. It’s quite strenuous to go up the mountain, the slope is a bit steep😂
Apart from the disadvantage of being in a remote location and having to climb a very high mountain road, everything else is pretty good. It is very convenient to go to Sounzan on foot in ten minutes the next day
The boss was very considerate and the service was very good and enthusiastic. Although it is not as good as the experience of Arima Onsen last week, the price and service are also very good
The store manager is very nice, although communication is a bit difficult. When we went there, we had no idea where the hotel was located. After calling our aunt, she immediately drove to pick us up
Be sure to remember to use the right door! Otherwise, my legs would really break if I dragged my luggage here. Hot springs are open from 6-9:30 in the morning and close at 24:00 in the evening
location along cable car from gora to sozcan station. both breakfasts and dinners excellent in traditional Japanese style. onsen keep you warm in chilly weather

Harriway Hotel Hakone, Hakone1 / 26
7.3
Hakone, 566-1 Ohiradai (7 km from centre) 🧭 Map
I think it is a very good hot spring hotel that is reasonably priced for those who wish to stay without meals. For train lovers, the nearby Ohiradai station is the best.
We had to unexpectedly stay in Hakone for one night longer than we thought, and there were actually no available hotels
We booked this hotel, a little scared by the reviews, but everything went great! We ve booked through Booking. The room is in a traditional style, clean, with a very beautiful view of the mountains
Yes, this is not a luxury hotel, but value for money is good. From a bus stop you need to go 5 minutes uphill
Nestled on a quiet hilltop in the small village of Ohiradai the Harriway Summit View Onsen Hotel is a perfect rest stop for those visiting the Hakone area
There is no shower in the room, you can only take a shower in the onsen. The onsen itself is small, but hot

Hakone, 1320-179 Gora (8 km from centre) 🧭 Map
The hotel is located right outside Gora Station. Very convenient with buses, train, or cable car connection. We use luggage delivery service to send the luggage to Hakone Yumoto after check out
Can get a bit loud in the room in the morning- if your windows are facing the Main Street. Sound isolation is not the strongest side of the rooms design. Very good breakfast - scrambled eggs were perfect
They do have an onsen which was also pretty clean and nice. I had a shared bathroom, which I not always a fan of but it was clean and gender separated. I recommend this location for your Hakone stay
I stayed here 1 night during my Hakone visit and I am so glad for this place because the hotel I stayed in prior night was just awful (separate review on it) Room was spacious and clean
One of the best decisions I made is staying here. Hotels in Hakone area are pricey. WPU hotel is more affordable compared to others in the area. We can see the sunrise from our room
Great place to stay in Hakone, we really enjoyed our 2 nights stay which included breakfast (good variety and fresh!). The onsen was also a nice surprise in the hotel

6.9
Hakone, Sengokuhara 1283-87, 250-0631 Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan (9 km from centre) 🧭 Map
Limited parking space available. There is a long staircase in front of the resort so please be aware if you are bringing large luggage. Room is spacious and the open-air bath is larger than expected
The room was decent, and the private hot spring was good too. The only downside was the lack of a car; climbing up the mountain was exhausting
Dinner needed to be booked three days in advance, but I couldn't find any information about it, and not wanting to climb back down, I had to buy instant noodles at the hotel. The service was alright, supposedly 24-hour
The environment is nice and the cleanliness is excellent. I hope to stay here again if I have the chance. The front desk staff was very friendly and the check-in process was very smooth
Besides, if u don't drive, they provide picking up services from nearest bus stops
Overall, it was okay; having a car would have been no problem at all

Hakone, 656 Yumoto (8 km from centre) 🧭 Map
Note that in addition to the hotel room rate, there's an onsen tax in Hakone, payable for both overnight and non-overnight stays, calculated based on the room rate, but it's not expensive
We had an amazing stay here! The staff were so welcoming and hospitable, answering all of our questions and helping with our bags. They also helped us with suggestions on what to do around Hakone
I'm not sure if it's considered a guesthouse. There's no Chinese service, but English is acceptable. It's managed by Nepalese people. The service and facilities are quite good
Although it's small, it was more than enough for the four of us, and the onsen water was excellent; we felt very comfortable afterward
The hotel room was also nice; it was spacious, next to a small river, and had a small balcony—I thought it was great. My friend said they'd stay here again next time
The hotel's main onsen (hot spring) is closed until 10 PM, but we could still use the small underground bathroom next door afterwards

Hakone, Miyanoshita 413, 250-0404 Hakone, uezd Asigarasimo, Prefektura Kanagava, Yaponiya (7 km from centre) 🧭 Map
Of note, the 7-11 is within easy downhill walking distance, but ask about the shortcut up the stairs and through the shrine to get back - we took the hill the first night and it was rough, but after the gentleman showed us the stairs it was much easier! The owners also supplied us with hot water multiple times daily, so we could enjoy cup noodles in our room (my partner also enjoyed the tea they supplied
We also wanted to try a traditional ryokan and this place hit all the check points: it is traditional, maybe a little outdated but it is part of the charm, in a good area and it has 2 onsens which you can use it private for 50 mins at any time (even at night)
Such an amazing experience!! Experienced the best hospitality from the couple that owns this ryokan - they did everything to make sure our stay was perfect. The room, onsen, and ryokan as a whole were all fabulous.
Even just the walk up the stairs to our room was always enjoyable because they’ve done a fantastic job decorating the ryokan. The view from our windows of Hakone’s roofs and the mountains was absolutely gorgeous
We had made plans at another onsen in Hakone to go spend a couple of hours, but traffic caused us to miss our reservation. Honestly, we weren’t even upset. We just went back to Tsukinoya and enjoyed their onsen
We used the one on the first floor and never had to wait for it. I wish we had facilities like this in the US. The individual rooms at Tsukinoya don’t have showers, but I promise, it’s for the best

Because the mountain roads are rugged and difficult to walk, it's best to take a bus rather than hike. Remember to take a photo of the departure time to avoid missing the bus or waiting too long
The bathroom is shared! There's a sink in the room, but going to the bathroom in the early morning can be inconvenient. If you don't know the location, it might be difficult to get there
We booked a two-meal package, which includes two time slots for dining, which is recommended, as many restaurants in Hakone close around 5 PM, making it difficult to find food, except for 7-Eleven and Lawson
Whether you're using a card or a pass, you need to swipe or present your pass when you get on board and swipe or present it again when you get off. Remember, the Izu Bus does not accept passes
I was afraid that we'd be cold there in November but we managed to heat the room really well with the AC. We could easily book a private onsen room just for us upon arrival
The hotel signs the names of guests arriving at the door, which was a great experience from the start. They check in their slippers upon arrival, so you need to use them

Hakone, 250-0408 Kanagawa, Gora 1300-13, Japan (8 km from centre) 🧭 Map
The freshly cooked omelettes were especially delicious! The only thing to note is that we arrived on a day of heavy snowfall (8th February 2026), meaning that the shuttle bus couldn’t collect us from Odawara Station due to accidents on the roads
Upon arrival, we waited over an hour in the cold for the hotel transport to collect us before we gave up and decided to walk as it was getting dark and the temperature was dropping even more
There was only one other couple in there the whole time! We really enjoyed the breakfast - there was so much choice (Japanese and Western) and everything was so fresh
After waiting around for several hours, we did eventually manage to get a few local trains to Gora Station, where the hotel said that they could pick us up
Once we eventually made it to the hotel, the staff that greeted us weren’t overly sympathetic and took quite a long time to check us in
This meant that we had to walk down a long set of very steep, icy steps with our luggage which felt extremely dangerous

I can't wait to come back! We loved our stay! It's a beautiful and very large traditional Japanese house where you feel right at home. Furthermore, the host's kindness greatly contributed to our enjoyable experience
The host was lovely and welcoming and did her best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The homemade breakfast and the bath were the highlights of the stay. Would definitely stay here again
An older traditional ryokan. The hostess was so kind and provided delicious meals. There is a small onsen available as well.
The kids adored the place and the owners, it’s like staying with loving grandparents. A very traditional, authentic Japanese household with natural hot springs, and traditional bath robes provided
The breakfast was very traditional and generous, we enjoyed it with green tea and sitting on the floor with low table. Very grateful for this experience. We will definitely recommend and return
It really feels like living in your own home. The grandparents at the B&B are very kind. Although communication is a bit difficult, the room has a small living room and a bedroom
