MarSenses Ferrera Blanca Hotel Family in Cala d'Or

This hotel is split across two sites on either side of a road - it used to be one entity, but as of this year, it is now two separate places - family or adults. The hotel rating on Jet 2 was 4 stars. This is something we totally disagree with. Having travelled extensively in the UK and europe, the best in our opinion that this hotel is, is a three star. Please note that there is one lift in the reception area, and so accommodation is reached on first and second floors by stairs. It is not ideal for carrying luggage of children's buggies to the rooms. No concierge service was offered. If you wish to use the safe in your room, this comes at a nightly cost of €3.50 plus a €4 deposit for the key. Something we have never personally come across before, though our daughter stayed at another resort in Majorca earlier this year and was told the same thing. I'm not sure if this is a new moneymaking scheme in hotels just in Majirca or if it's more widespread. There is a beach close by that you can see from the restaurant, accessible either by lots of steps or a very steep hillside road. We didn't venture down there due to health issues, but our friends did, and they said the sunbeds were quite expensive and the water wasn't very clean - from the restaurant it dud look very murky and not blue as you'd expect. The adults' only facilities (pool and restaurant) are not available to adults who stay on the family side - even if the stay is on an all-inclusive basis. We had opted for So we were only able to eat in the buffet style restaurant for all meals, or go to the snack bar in the children's play area. The reception, bar,entertainment and restaurant staff were all very helpful. It was appreciated that the entertainment staff would pop by to tell everyone what activities were taking place without haranguing us to join in. We had contacted the hotel to request ground floor accommodation for our stay, and they were able to grant our request, which was appreciated. The restaurant is buffet style for each meal, and for us, breakfast was the best meal of the day, even though it did puzzle us why they served chips for breakfast. Other guests as well as ourselves could not understand why the tea/coffee machine in the restaurant was only available at breakfast time - if you want a hot drink after lunch or dinner you have to go to the bar over the road where the pools and accommodation blocks are. A change to this policy should perhaps be considered by management. Both pools have Roman steps into them as well as ladder style steps, which is very good if you have mobility issues. There are plenty of sunbeds and parasols around both pools. You can borrow the hotel's pool towels for a deposit of €10 each and change them every day. At the end of your stay, just return them with your receipt, and your deposit is returned. Our room was well below the 4 star standard, sadly. We probably go away 5 to 6 times a year and have stayed in a wide range of places, but this didn't hit the mark for me. The positives: the rooms and balconys are fresh and bright although for a family of 4, no where near enough storage space.. we stayed in K205. Negatives: Ants....Well, I posted a video.... I don't actually mind the odd ant, but this was mental. Even with the spray they came back.... Drinks: The cocktails even when premium are mixed mainly from a juice machine and tbh are not that great at all.. Splash Pool - Good slides and well setup for younger kids, fenced in so can keep an eye on younger children if wandering. Not deep so dont have to worry too much. Food: resturant gets packed and you have to queue, not fun with kids. The food is bang average and gets cold pretty fast, selection is small for a 4 star hotel of its size. We ate out 3 nights instead of staying at the hotel. Wouldn't even go back half board. Snack bar is absolutely grim, the food is just left open and out, flies and wasps non stop over everything. Again, pretty grotty. Pools: Just meh.. Good luck getting a sunbed here, tbh we didn''t bother, we go to the beach most of the time, when we got back in the afternoon we might get a spare bed. But if your a pool and chill person, then good luck. All in all, the kids had an enjoyable time as we spent most of our time of site doing stuff in majorca or in the splash pool. But I don't think this place is for us.
