Iberostar Waves Cala Domingos All Inclusive in Cales de Mallorca

Despite what the Spanish government would WANT you to think (in an effort, I think, to generate more tax income) this isn't a four star hotel. Here's why: The rooms. VERY small; tiny in fact. There is approximately 20cm clearance between the end of the bed and the wall. When moving around you will need to develop the "Iberostar Chassé." Additionally, in our room at least, once you take your first shower, the extractor fan (which was dirty by the way) stayed on. The whole time. Day and night, for the WHOLE stay: whirrrrr... I reported this to reception but nothing was done. Whirrrr... To use the room's safe you need to pay a deposit of €10 for the activation key but also an additional, non-refundable €3 per night. This is extortionate: who, when travelling abroad, doesn't need to use a room safe? This felt like a stealth tax and wouldn't happen in any genuinely 4 star hotel. Whirrrr... And finally, there aren't any tea or coffee making facilities in the room: NONE. This is simply not good enough in a "4 star" hotel. Whirrrr... The food. Plentiful, cooked well enough and varied but, the only options are buffet with some slight variations each night. There is also a "Mexican" themed restaurant but, again, the same choices on repeat. The barbecue station is satisfactory but nothing dazzling. Simply put, there aren't any a la carte choices in either restaurant. The food is not at a 4 star standard. The pools. Very crowded and only two of them. The larger pool is reasonable and has a dedicated paddle area but has no depth or option to swim lanes. It is very busy here. The small pool, nearer the beach, is a more traditional rectangle but has a weird aerated quality which removes buoyancy: odd. There are showers here (necessary given the proximity to the beach) but they the power to remove sand. Two pools, for this size of hotel is poor. The entertainment. Pretty standard fair to be honest. We had some circus performers who were a little past their sell by date and were more Cirque de So-so. The African gymnasts were highly entertaining. The Disney Frozen night was fine for its intended demographic. Blues Brothers tribute act were uncomfortably loud (painful in fact). The flamenco dancers were okay(ish) but again, a little past their best. The 90's singers were very good and really got the party going. Entertainment is subjective and this could just about claim 4 star status. The site. Huge, significantly sloped and sprawling. This is mitigated by a fleet of electric "golf buggy" style taxis which shuttle you around. There are designated stops but, if there's space on board, they will stop anywhere to pick you up. The issue with this system is its lack of predictability: if your room is along the right hand side of ghe resort (looking towards the beach from reception), you will have to wait a considerable time. This service desperately needs organising. Okay, so what do they get right? The staff. Th
