Hostal la Ceiba in Cala d'Or

We checked into this property to find a severe bug infestation with insects visibly crawling on the walls, and black mold covering the entire bathroom ceiling — all documented with timestamped photos and videos taken upon arrival.

We reported the issues and stepped outside while waiting for a response. In our absence, staff entered our room without any notice, warning, or permission. When we returned, the room smelled abhorrent with a throat-burning chemical odour indicating insecticide had been sprayed — a toxic substance used in our absence without any warning before or after. There were still bugs in despite of their secret attempt of exterminating them. They had also attempted to wipe the mold (although unsuccessfully)rather than properly address it.

When we requested to be moved, management refused, claiming the property was fully booked. They then informed us that staff would return the NEXT DAY to carry out painting work — yet expected us to sleep there for a second night under these conditions, with painting scheduled in an already mold and chemical-infested room.

Management explicitly refused to issue a refund, claiming the room was in “perfect condition and completely clean.” Yet in the same email they confirmed the painting work for the following day — a direct contradiction fully documented in writing. Also if a guest is staying how come painting was scheduled?

Most remarkably, they sent a video as “proof” the room was fine — yet the footage clearly showed their own staff standing in the bathroom with a ladder positioned beneath the mold they had just denied existed.

Airbnb reviewed our evidence and issued a full refund, confirming the property was uninhabitable.

This is a serious health and safety violation. Future guests deserve to know.

No fridge, no blanket only bedsheet, smells appalling. The worst ever accommodation and customer service of my life.

The only good thing with this hostel is the price and location 250 meters to the nearest beach. But be aware of this hostel, the rooms are dated and there is no ventilation. So you need to keep the windows open to get fresh air in. This causes it to be noisy from partying neighbors and cars.

Also the ceiling fan is hardly working and we had to buy our own fan to not overheat in this hotel in end of August.
