A Hotel Full of Old-World Charm - Perfect If You Appreciate Character Over Clinical Luxury. We recently stayed at this hotel and although it’s listed as a 5-star, it’s not a 5-star in the modern, glossy, minimalist sense. It is, though, is full of charm, history and heart and for the right kind of traveller, it’s absolutely wonderful. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we’d stepped into a time warp, straight back to the vibrant 80s. Some reviews had complained about this, and after being there, I can understand. Parts of the décor and facilities are undeniably dated. But that gives the place character. It’s not another sterile, cookie-cutter resort. It’s distinctive, charming, and full of personality and we loved that. The staff were exceptional. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and hard-working. Our room was spacious and comfortable. It was huge, with a beautiful four-poster bed, large mirrors, and a well-stocked fridge. The bed was incredibly comfortable (which, honestly, can make or break a holiday), and we slept so well.
The balcony was a real highlight too with sunbeds, seating, a little table, space to dry clothes, and a gorgeous sea view.The bathroom looked smart and was well stocked with toiletries. The shower itself was big and lovely to use, though the shower head needed replacing as it kept flopping down — one of those tiny details that stops it meeting modern 5-star standards. Ours also didn’t have a window, but that may just have been our room’s location.
Breakfast was consistently delicious. The buffet had a huge range of fresh options, and there was also a menu offering eggs cooked every possible way, crepes, toasties, various Spanish-style takes on an ‘English breakfast’. I loved the tiny birds flitting around (and being cheekily fed).
We were half-board so didn’t try the dinner restaurants, but we did have lunch one day, a little pricey, but very, very good.
Pools, Sun Decks, and Plenty of Space. The main pool is set across different levels, with additional smaller pools and an adults-only area. There were hardwood sunbeds, soft foam ones, and various sun decks with different views. It never felt overcrowded when we stayed. We didn’t use the spa, but we looked around - jacuzzi, sauna, steam rooms all set within very grand décor.
Little Corners and Quirks - There are lots of small seating areas tucked around the hotel where you can relax. Booking.com had older photos of features like a BBQ area, which clearly hasn’t been used in a long time. You can tell the hotel is doing its best to maintain everything: it’s very clean, but also very dated. It must cost a fortune to run, and that effort is noticeable.
One of the biggest reasons we chose this place was the location by the cove and it didn’t disappoint. It was packed every day, with people sunbathing on the stone decks built into the rocks and swimming in the water. The “beach” itself was more small stones than sand, but still lovely.
We snorkelled early in the mornings and it was magical. We also walked around the coast and found a rocky deck where we could jump straight into the sea.
A Few Practical Notes - The hotel has a long driveway that some taxis struggled to drive down, so a couple of times we walked it instead which feels very long in the heat! Staff apologised even though it wasn’t their fault, which was sweet. There’s also a shortcut via steps on the other side.
The walk into town is about 15–20 minutes. Doable, but not always fun under the sun, so we usually grabbed a taxi back after dinner.
Overall - This is not a modern 5-star hotel, but if you’re someone who appreciates charm over perfection, character over clinical lines, and warm staff over polished marble, this place is a gem. It has heart, history, personality, and a setting that’s hard to beat. You’re really paying for the breathtaking views and tranquil setting, not necessarily a luxury hotel experience, but a soulful and relaxing one. A piece of paradise. We genuinely loved our stay and would return in a heartbeat, it just needs guests who understand what makes it special.

Petit Fornells a real find….room 102 has amazing balcony & lots of great views. Will def request this superior room again! Was in 105 last year which was nice but 102 better…view even from shower! Food exceptionally good.

Hotel Petit Cala Fornells is a charming, slightly old-school hotel in a truly stunning location. While it’s listed as five stars, I’d personally rate it four — mainly due to the dated rooms and average restaurant. That said, there’s still a lot to love here.

The breakfast spread is rich and plentiful, and the multi-level terrace design with three separate pools creates peaceful little corners to unwind — like having your own slice of serenity. The ocean is just 100 meters away, easily accessible via a beautiful cove, which makes swimming a daily joy.

Parking is available on-site, and the staff are warm and helpful. You’re really paying for the breathtaking views and tranquil setting — not necessarily a luxury hotel experience, but a soulful and relaxing one.

We stayed at a hotel next door but wanted to try the restaurant Na Sardana here, the food and drinks, from presentation to service were simply excellent! We enjoyed it so much so that we actually returned second time during our one week stay in the area. Kudos to chef who I believe is Mallorquin and his team as well as the service team for running a great gig. NB: Its not cheap but worth every penny

A lovely ten days at this very relaxing hotel. From arrival to departure nothing was too much trouble. The room was well equipped and spotless with a balcony and sea view. The restaurants were good with a good menu selection and the bar very friendly. The various pools were well maintained and offered great views.
