Reviews
Half board was incredible with excellent food quality and choice for breakfast and evening meal. We usually give a hotel evening meal a miss, but this hotel served up really well cooked food.
Drinks in the small bar were again excellent, my wife commented that she was drinking the best Sangria she has ever had, and she has tried a good few. €6.00 each for a hotel is very good value. They were good sized glasses as well.
Overall one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in Spain.
I must mention the beds are absolutely brilliant.
Other than that, the hotel is nice, the staff is helpful (except from the night shift guy that basically lied to me), the food is good and maybe my only other complaint is that the bathrooms have a very bad ventilation, it is always humid there.
I gjve 1 star only due to the lack of accountability; I don’t even remember anyone apologising, I was lied to regarding the security cameras and one person from the staff did not even believe me when I told them that this was happening.
Positives:
The suite was large, clean, and well-equipped, with a comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, living area, and a kitchen which was ideal for traveling with a toddler.
Underground parking was easy to access and had plenty of space.
Staff were friendly and welcoming.
The hotel was quiet during the week, and the location, while remote, was convenient for visiting nearby towns like Altea, Guadalest, and Villajoyosa (all within a 20-minute drive).
The pool bar area was nicely designed and the overall cleanliness of the hotel was excellent.
Areas for Improvement:
Service at the pool bar was slow, especially early in the week. Guests were often left waiting with no staff in sight. This improved slightly by Friday as the hotel seemed busier.
Breakfast hot food was consistently cold, scrambled eggs, beans, etc. I just stuck with pastries and fruit in the end, as I didn't want to eat cold 'hot' food. They provide an omelette station but that was unmanned on 3 out of 5 mornings. I didn't want to have to hunt someone down to make me an omelette.
Gym facilities were basic, with limited equipment.
Pool temperature was extremely cold, even during a hot week (28°C). Probably the coldest pool I've experienced at a hotel.
Arrival experience lacked the expected 5-star touch, no assistance with luggage, which may be fine for some, but not typical of a 5-star standard.
The Barcelo Palms hotel was closed, possibly due to off-season.
Overall it's a really nice hotel and we were pleased with our stay, but if you are expecting a TRUE 5 star experience, it's not at that level.
