Vieng Mantra in Chiang Mai City

The location is perfect, just a 5-minute walk from Dar Bei Gate.

The room was cleaned and the bed made after just 2 hours of being out. The cleaning was thorough.

The chairs on the balcony and inside the room do not have cushions, so it is a good idea to bring your own.

The restaurant and bar are separate, and bringing alcohol into the restaurant is not allowed.

The restaurant is listed as opening at 7am, but I think it actually opens after 8am.

There are plenty of breakfast options nearby, so there is no need to eat at the hotel.

I ate at the hotel restaurant once. It was delicious, so if you don't want to go out, it's fine to eat at the hotel.

There is a clean pool in the courtyard.

I would like to stay here again.

The hotel is located within the walls of the old city of Chiang Mai near the famous Tha Phae Gate and is just 100 metres from a lively walking street that held on every Sunday evening. Our room was clean and nice, especially the balcony. However, the hotel doesn't offer breakfast. P.S. The street is closed for a walking street on every Sunday evening. The only access to the hotel is by walking from a canal road into an alley where a hotel is located.

The Vieng Mantra is in a great location just by one of the gates in the old town. It’s in easy reach of restaurants, bars and local shops. The renowned Sunday night walking market is just at the end of the road. The bed was comfortable the room was clean and the bathroom was nice. What was disappointing was the breakfast. There was a choice of three set American breakfasts but they didn’t start serving until 7.30am if you’re going out on a day excursion it was too late. One morning we did have the breakfast and it took 45 minutes to arrive and was disappointing. Book without breakfast as there are plenty of nice places to go with a quick walk of the hotel.

I stayed at Vieng Mantra for 7 nights and loved it. What a gorgeous little boutique hotel down a quiet little Soi in the Old city. It is very well priced for what it delivers. The rooms are spacious with a good sized bathroom and a lovely balcony, most overlooking the central pool. Housekeeping were super efficient, the girls at reception were lovely and spoke reasonable English. There’s a little tea/coffee station near reception, if you run out in your room. Bikes are available for rent at the front. Lerts is directly opposite, his food is excellent and he’s super charming. It is literally 150m from Tha Phae gate and so many sights in easy walking distance. What more could you want. Unfortunately I had a noisy neighbour which was annoying plus it was a little frustrating that the Wifi wasn’t automatic (meant you had to keep logging in). Other than these minor things, I would return here no hesitation. Awesome value for money!

We enjoyed our stay here. Rooms were great, good size, nice and clean, well maintained and good air conditioning. We had rooms that overlooked the pool. I would definitely advise to upgrade to the rooms that view the pool. You get a great veranda and it's fab to sit out on. A location of the hotel was excellent - really in the centre of everything. We would recommend this place to anyone. Staff are a little quirky. We found across Thailand that everyone was soooo helpful. Here they were polite but not up to the level you get across Thailand. Just a mention. Also, as many people have said, you can get breakfast included if you pay cash. From what I saw of the breakfast I did not miss out on anything. We paid on card and got charged an extra 3% :-) But - we liked this place and would go back quickly.

Argos1909 who wrote a review Dec 2023 sounds like a big giant Karen. Worst hotel in Chiang Main and not even a hostel? Get real. I have stayed here before and plan to stay here again this year. He/she also claimed the photos are misleading...I can show you photos from my own trip and they look exactly the same as the photos you will see on the site. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel, and it's FAR from being a hostel. You also get what you pay for...who choses a super cheap hotel and then rants like they're judging a 5-star resort?? It's clean, staff is friendly, and the location is perfect. There are also scooter rentals super close by. The pool is pretty small, but I didn't come to Chiang Mai to relax around a pool...I came here to join the lantern festival, volunteer taking care of elephants, and take advantage of Benny's cooking class. If you're such a Karen that you have to unplug a fridge to get some sleep, maybe save us all from your fit throwing and just don't travel. Normal people bring ear plugs on vacation if noise bothers them that much.

We stayed here for 3 nights and were very happy with the property. It's a small boutique hotel on a quiet side street just inside the Tae Phae Gate of the old city and right off a main road. About a 15 min. walk to the river. Our 3rd floor room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable, and faced the courtyard, overlooking the smallish pool. The bathroom was spacious, although the shower could use updating. The shower head is a hand-held shower that kept falling off the bracket which got the floor wet a few times. Also, there's no outlet in the bathroom (just something to be aware of). A basic continental breakfast is included, although we didn't eat at the hotel. The hotel is close to many cafes and shops. You can easily walk to any of the dozens of temples within the old city walls. There is a laundry service just around the corner that charged 60 THB/kg. and can have your laundry done by the end of the day (express service -120 THB/kg). We loved Stories Cafe for breakfast (a short 4 minute walk away). We arrived on a Sunday, just in time for Sunday Night Market! If you're in Chiang Mai on a Sunday night, don't miss it! The best thing about this property is its location.

Have now stayed here on and off for app 6 weeks over the last 14 months,the rooms are spacious,the beds comfy,the staff always friendly and the pool is a delight after a days walking/golfing or just chilling out. The hotel is situated in a quiet Soi close to markets ,restaurants and pubs.I can't recommend this place highly enough!
