Hotel am Augustinerplatz in Koln

Giving two stars because the stay came with a gym membership, which included use of the gym, the pool and hot tub a few feet away. Also, the location is ideal. However, my room had a funky smell, almost like dog urine. Also, the staff has very limited hours at the front desk. So if you are a person that locks themselves out easily, or are you are planning to arrive late and not want to deal with the hassle of checking in using the automated system outside, I would look elsewhere. The hotel mentioned to me about using a digital key and getting some app, but they did not really make that clear before. Also, I observed some disorganization. There was one family that was looking to check in that arrived at 10am but the person at the front desk stepped away and locked the office and did not leave a sign at the front door which created confusion and panic. As of today, I would recommend others to stay elsewhere.

Absolutely Not a 4-Star Hotel – Avoid This Place!

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. It absolutely does not deserve 4 stars — I’d give it half star, maybe 1 at best.
1- Reception was a disaster. I waited over an hour because they couldn’t find my reservation. No apology, no compensation — just pure incompetence.
2-I paid €100 extra to upgrade from a tiny single bed to a double bed — only to find it was just two singles pushed together. Completely unacceptable for the price.
3-Reception closes at night. No one to assist, and there was no phone number provided in the room for help or room service. Total lack of basic hotel service.
4-The room had no amenities. No tea, no coffee, not even a kettle. The bathroom was cramped, and room service doesn’t even exist.
5-The swimming pool? It’s not in the building — it’s in another one nearby. Misleading and inconvenient.

This place is a joke compared to what it advertises. Don’t waste your money. Don’t come here. There are far better options nearby

Hard to believe but another edit: Come home late from dinner and the key card doesn't work. No one in reception, no number you can call. After 30 min someone who works there arrives. I travel between 70-90 days a year and I have honestly found the rock bottom standard for hotels. Choose any other hotel than this one they have lost all control of their operation, I do not feel safe here.

Edit to add info: They just walked into the room without knocking when I was there "it was not booked in the system". I have no words. I fear for my privacy and the security of my personal belongings.

Got confirmation from the hotel that the room had changed from a coworkers name to mine as I requested. Arrive and they have cancelled the room. Got a new room for the same price. However compared with my 2 other coworkers room (all 3 rooms were booked together) it is much smaller. Very bad look to make a mistake cancelling the room and then charging the same for a much smaller and basic room.

On top of this the pillows are awful, the room was very dusty on the shelves and in the wardrobe. No iron in the room and the one provided was very bad. Would not recommend business travellers to stay here.

Worst hotel experience I have had so far. After check-in via the Terminal at the door I went upstairs to my room. After unlocking the door I was shocked to see that the room was occupied by foreign people who were no guests of the hotel. They ran downstairs and left the hotel, leaving the room in a total mess. I was forced to search for another hotel in the middle of the night.

There was no support from the hotel during this incidence whatsoever. No personal was present at the hotel, no one was answering the remote doorbells nor the phone of the hotel.

The hotel managers did not admit any guilt afterwards although the personal at the reception in the next morning confirmed that the foreigners entered the room with a valid guest card (from whom did they get it from?). It is the responsibility of the hotel to ensure availability and security of the booked rooms.

We've been there with our whole company and their was no compensation for this incident (besides getting another room). Truely a nightmare.

The pillows are horrendous! I wouldn't even call it a pillow. They were so saggy and when taken out of the cases I realised just how old and dirty they were. We took them to reception in the morning, staff said this was our opinion and this is the first complaint over the pillows. After reading other reviews this is not something new. Nothing she could do. For a 4 star hotel it's unacceptable.

The parking is misleading. Website says parking available and no reservation is required, receptionist said they only have 7 parks. Parking is in a public carpark.

There were a few other minor things, leaky tap, unstable showerhead, and water, only sparkling water provided.
Overall disappointing.

The hotel offers when booking private parking at Hotel grounds. Reservation is not needed it says. At arrival there was no parking space free. So I had to make a reservation for this. Still had to park my car at a public carpark. I choose the hotel because it had private parking. False advertisement!

The pillows were awful. They also need new madrases. I had a yellow socks, after 5 minutes they were black, dust was everywhere. My white toiletry bag was also black, because the toilet was very dusty. They are cleaning just sink because it is white. The bathroom door was difficult to open. We had a coffee machine, two cups (we were 4), soap and shower gel, two glasses, shower cap in the bathroom. Towels were very old. Hotel don't deserve 4*. The hotel had a very strange smell.
