Hotel Ipanema in Taormina

You cannot imagine a better location! Also the staff and service is amazing but the pool and rooms need som TLC!
The lovest level where the toilets are smells like a basement, which is a shame, because it is a charming place with the best views.. You have many places of interest in the walking distance ( Isolla Bella, , cable car and busses to Taormina, beaches and restaurants also City by See stop, that deserves a separate review really -super experience) .Ladies at the reception are most helpful and give you all necessary information and everyone working at the restaurant are very attentive. We cannot forget the lovely cocktails at the bar . This place could do great even without the hotel. Thank you for the personal touch ❤️ could do with some live music!
Overall...we had a great time. Your holiday is what you make of it , but there is a space for improvement. Hopefully we will come back one day to the fresh new stsrt

September 10th-17th 2025. The Ipanema Hotel Taormina, Sicily is a traditional Sicilian Hotel with wood panelling. The rooms are spacious with wardrobe space, dressing table, mirrors, comfy beds. There are plug sockets and lights next to the bed. The bathroom is small but all modern plumbing and good lighting. All rooms have a balcony which has a sea view and the sun all day. They also have air con, a tv and a safe. The doors are locked with a real key. The rooms are cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels. It has a bar and lots of comfy seating. The pool is rooftop and private (no other hotels look onto it) a sun terrace with lots of sun beds, changing room and toilet. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The hotel is situated just a few minutes walk from the village restaurants, pharmacy and mini market. (You can get freshly made sandwiches and essentials here). Also a few minutes walk there is the cable car to main Taormina town, (€10 return ticket) car rentals (€80 per day) and boat trips. It is also on a bus route. There are no paths on the small road and it is quite hilly but this adds to the traditional feel of being in Sicily. The beautiful Isola Bella is within walking distance with other beaches. Although these are busy pebbled beaches it is great for snorkelling. The views from all of Taormina are beautiful. You can also walk up the many steps to main Taormina town where there are gardens, markets and historical sites. We had an amazing holiday in a beautiful place and were totally satisfied with the lovely Ipanema Hotel.

This was a beautiful hotel located convenient to the air trolley up to Taormina. I would stay here again.

Loved this hotel!!! We were made to feel very welcome, and well looked after. Excellent service in restaurant and bar and the rooms were cleaned every day. Loved it. +++

The only reason I have marked down is due to noise. The majority of the staff especially Maria and Vincenzo make the hotel amazing and were so lovely and gave us great help while we were there. Unfortunately the noise in the hotel is a big factor for me. The music from the bar goes on late and is very loud. We asked for it to be turned down as we were right above but Mario was not happy and didn’t turn it down. The cleaners also start early and although I cannot fault the hotel on its cleanliness the cleaners do start very early and are very noisy. They literally drag the furniture across the tiled floors to clean which obviously can’t be helped and is all part of their job but it’s so noisy very early so no way to sleep through it. You can also hear every flush of the toilet in other rooms and every shower. The location is fantastic and the views from the room are lovely especially the higher the room. Other reviews say the rooms are dated but our was lovely. Yes the shutters are wooden and old and the balcony furniture and tiled floors are dated but that is ok for me and adds character. The breakfast was suitable and the coffee machine was perfect always working and lovely coffee. A couple of times we had to ask the night receptionist Salvy for extra toilet paper as the cleaners hadn’t left any and he acted as though it was the most inconvenient thing ever. He never smiled or said hello once even though we always were polite. The pool was lovely and clean and fantastic views. The sun terrace was also great. The pillows weren’t that comfy for me - we asked for more but they were not much better. Also no extra blankets for the bed. We did ask to be moved to a higher room and our request was accommodated the next day which was really great. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Such a clean hotel can’t fault that.

After reading the reviews I was not expecting this hotel to be as good as it was! It is tired, but spotlessly clean, and in a great location which are the things we as a couple value the most! Every room provides a lateral wonderful view of the sea and has a small balcony. Christina on reception provides excellent advice on trips, restaurants etc and Mario the barman is a wonderful character. The buffet style breakfast is basic and consists of meats, cheeses, bread and pastries and cereals. There is a roof top pool and a sun terrace if you don’t want to go to the beach. The one negative is it can be noisy if you have loud room neighbours so take some earplugs!

We had an amazing stay at Hotel Ipanema. The staff were fantastic and made us feel truly welcome from the first moment. It’s the perfect place for a family holiday with kids and also to completely unwind — especially if you’re coming from a busy metropolitan city. The location is unbeatable, with a view that is absolutely priceless.

While 5-star hotels may offer more facilities, none can match the unique charm and atmosphere of this hotel. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
