Grand Hotel Plaza e Locanda Maggiore in Montecatini-Terme

This Grand Old Hotel is Magnificent!!! We were lucky enough to be booked here with a Gate 1 Tuscany 7 day tour with our son Matt. The front door staff was excellent and by the second day they knew what our room number was and had the key ready as we walked in from out side. The included breakfast buffet was excellent as was the restaurant staff. If we were not in our 80's and were able to travel to Montecantin Terme again we would love to return and stay again in room 116 on the second floor. Ha Ha This old jem of an hotel was 100 yards from the train station and the rest of Italy was ready to be explored.

We had a wonderful week over NewYear. The food was top class and we thoroughly enjoyed the gala dinner on New Year’s Eve. Our room overlooked the square and was spacious and spotlessly clean. The hotel is old and charming. There is a very atmospheric bar where Michele really looks after the customers……. he even made hot whiskeys which was a first for him! The staff were most efficient and friendly. Special thanks for the champagne on our anniversary! Location is excellent as everything is within walking distance. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

The Tuscany area of Italy was beautiful and the weather in Nov. was terrific. We enjoyed the people and the atmosphere. We took a group tour of several villages in the area and had a really great guide.

Loved the location right on the square. Beautiful hotel. Cizy little bar. Food was pretty good. Wish they would supply 1 bottle of water a day. Desk staff was very helpful in finding the shops for me that i wanted to visit.

Having stayed in this beautiful hotel 3 years ago we made a return trip and I am glad to see the hotel is just as good as on our first visit. The perfect location for exploring Montecatini and the surrounding places of interest eg Florence, Sienna, Lucca etc. A beautiful pool area immaculately kept and with waiter service provided by the ever smiling and most helpful lady who's name I unfortunately forget. The interior takes you make to a much more elegant time and the food is amazing. All these things are what a great hotel needs but staff is as important and this hotel's staff from reception through to dining to domestic are the best ever. Always smiling no request is too much for them and the waiting staff made every nights meal an occasion to savour. Thank you so much to all at the hotel and continued success.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel. Staff were v friendly and helpful. Food was v good. Rooms v clean and we had an excellent holiday.

East access to restaurants and entertainment. Short drives to area sights like Florence, Sienna and Lucca Standard rooms are small as many locations in Italy

I write as a Maltese tour leader who has taken several groups of tourists to this hotel. Excellent hotel right in the middle of Montecatini in the central square, near all amenities and important sights. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the food for breakfast and dinner is top notch. I will again be there shortly and I'm looking forward to it. Carmel Caruana.

The Grand Hotel Plaza is very central for Pisa, Lucca, Sienna, San Gimignano as well as nearby villages. We walked up to M/Alto in 45 minutes from the Hotel but took the lift back down. We ate extremely well (half board) with well balanced dishes different every night. Breakfasts have something for everyone. Staff are really helpful, professional, and friendly - nothing too much trouble! It must be the highest bedroom and grandest dining room ever for us and always so clean. Slept well in a very comfy bed with amazing views over the Plaza and distant hills, shower was good, room safe and kettle most welcome. Cannot comment on the outdoor pool which remained closed. Do not miss the Spa (Terme) with spa tasting and a weekly opera, it,s beautiful. A midweek opera recital we thoroughly enjoyed and recommend if available. Train station is only 10 minutes from the hotel but as part of a group (Travel Dept) we were dropped 100 yds away - no problem! Lift serves all 4 floors taking 6 at a time. Hotel bar is cosy and open late. Highly recommended. Richard -UK
