Grand Hotel Plaza & Locanda Maggiore

East access to restaurants and entertainment. Short drives to area sights like Florence, Sienna and Lucca Standard rooms are small as many locations in Italy

I write as a Maltese tour leader who has taken several groups of tourists to this hotel. Excellent hotel right in the middle of Montecatini in the central square, near all amenities and important sights. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the food for breakfast and dinner is top notch. I will again be there shortly and I'm looking forward to it. Carmel Caruana.

The Grand Hotel Plaza is very central for Pisa, Lucca, Sienna, San Gimignano as well as nearby villages. We walked up to M/Alto in 45 minutes from the Hotel but took the lift back down. We ate extremely well (half board) with well balanced dishes different every night. Breakfasts have something for everyone. Staff are really helpful, professional, and friendly - nothing too much trouble! It must be the highest bedroom and grandest dining room ever for us and always so clean. Slept well in a very comfy bed with amazing views over the Plaza and distant hills, shower was good, room safe and kettle most welcome. Cannot comment on the outdoor pool which remained closed. Do not miss the Spa (Terme) with spa tasting and a weekly opera, it,s beautiful. A midweek opera recital we thoroughly enjoyed and recommend if available. Train station is only 10 minutes from the hotel but as part of a group (Travel Dept) we were dropped 100 yds away - no problem! Lift serves all 4 floors taking 6 at a time. Hotel bar is cosy and open late. Highly recommended. Richard -UK

We're just back from a 5 night stay arranged by Gate1 (On-Your-Own non-guided Tuscany tour). Had taken the identical program in 2019 staying at the Minerva (acceptable but, more shabby chic). We were note expecting Ritz Carlton or Four Searsons. Plaza's a mature old gal with still good bones. Can't beat the location - Right on the main city square. As others have noted - it is QUITE noisy until very late at night. We were in the front of the building - Room 427 - and sleep with windows open....so. If you're a light sleeper - use ear plugs. Being early April, I'm not certain the AC had been activated - other than outside noise, the room was comfortable. Bathroom was efficient and kept clean daily. WiFi? I was able to view YouTube adequately well. Room lighting could have been better but, my eyes are getting older so....YMMV Breakfast - generous European buffet. Staff fine.

The Room had the highest ceiling I've ever seen in a bedroom! Very Elegant. We had a superior room with a great view over the Piazza. Breakfast was normal European fair, but we went half board and the evening meals (5 courses of Italian dishes) were excellent Highly recommended to pay extra for half board. Wifi is slow. Parking is in the locality with a weekly pass €24 on any blue space of which there are many. Perhaps best to hire a small car, we had a Fiat 500 which was a new experience, the car I normally drive in the UK wouldn't fit in most of the spaces. Staff are pleasant, helpful and speak english.

Beautiful bathroom

The service was excellent. The motel setting on the plaza was beautiful, looking out our window to see the plaza below was a bonus. The motel decor was top notch and the breakfast buffet was very good. The young man that worked the front desk was there every morning and evening and was very helpful with advice and ideas for exploring the city and the Tuscan countryside. It felt like I had a personal consierge. I highly recommend the hotel plaza l&m.

fantastic location, marble was everywhere. Beautiful view below from window- even looking at a merry go round! Cleanliness -good overall Room size- large room with big armmoire. Bed comfort- great Food- has non crispy bacon & scrambled eggs Safety - so beautiful & calm. & clean right outside the front door in the early mornings One key is very inconvenient for 2 roommates. No other option.Had fluffy soft towels. CONS- Told that safes don't work.,poor shower with tall shower head & small amount of mold. Has one poor coffee machine for our tour group. Held up time when time was limited.

Centrally located to visit Tuscany, Cinque Terra, Florence and Pizza. Situated on a pleasant Plaza and just 1 block from the train station. The hotel is quaint, comfortable and staff friendly. Monticatini is a wonderful place to unpack once and enjoy all the area has to offer.
