sequence KYOTO GOJO in Kyoto

Loved my stay at Toru's guesthouse. It's in a quiet, residential area with a local-frequented onsen across the street, but walking distance (around 5-9 minutes) from several bus stops and some very good restaurants, plus a coin laundry. I had the smaller private room which was lovely and quite spacious: tatami floors, well-made futon bed, A/C and heating, with sliding doors towards the small garden; this room also had a private toilet. There were shared showers and sinks and a communal kitchen space as well. It's a very beautiful and charming space, and blessedly peaceful when you're coming back from a long day of sightseeing and walking. Toru was a great host, extremely quick to respond to messages and also had recommendations on what to do, where to eat, etc. I was also able to send my luggage here ahead of time, which was a plus. If I return to Kyoto, I'd definitely love to stay again.

Owner is very responsible person , we have 4 person , come his area two times already , he always told us , make likes your house welcome , we will be back again in Kyoto

We have 14 days in Japan , from Osaka to Kyoto was owner to wait our luggage’s , we know that is not his job but he really did helpful , and do whatever he can do for us . By the way in Osaka we already went to restaurants,however in Kyoto we cooked everyday. Thanks god kitchen is very clean and free tea for us

Stayed Oct 2024. A cute guesthouse with traditional tatami/futon setup. The house is only 2 rooms with a common area and kitchen. Each room has it's own private toilet, and in the common area there are sinks and individual shower rooms. So even though it's labeled as a hostel, it was quiet and calm. There is an old washing machine on site, but even they suggest to use a nearby 24-hour facility...I highly recommend AQUA which is just a few minutes walk and has modern combo wash/dry machines.

Toru (owner) and his staff Chris were very responsive and helpful. We were able to check in around 1pm immediately after arriving on the bullet train from Tokyo.

The neighborhood is residential with several bnbs in the area. Colours is about a 20-25 min walk to Nishiki Market, and about 5-7 min walk from the nearest bus stops which are the best way to get around in Kyoto. There are many hotels closer to the Gion shopping area, but for a simple stay and authentic Japanese tatami room I appreciated Colours and would highly recommend.

I stayed here almost a week and it felt really homely. There are only two rooms, I had room B. At the entrance of my room there was a fish tank and 2 tanuki statues to greet me when I got back "home". My room had a private toilet but the rest was shared and everything was clean. You have the option between a western shower or a Japanse style bath. It's a machiya, a traditional Kyoto house, it's narrow but really long. The owner, Toru, will help you with any questions you have. If you really want a taste of Japan, try the sento (japanse public bath house), just in front of the hotel.

Really calm and relaxing environment, close to the station and lovely staff, overall a very pleasant stay. Recommended!

Really lovely staff, homely atmosphere

Friendly staff members, cozy rooms with lots of amenities, only that the shower is shared amongst guests. Had lots of fun during our stay here, even got to meet and chat with other interesting guests from various countries.

Would come to this place again if given the chance.
