The Hotel Yakushima, Yakushima1 / 30
8.9
Kyushu, Yakushima, 1208-9 Miyanoura 🧭 Map
Location was great, the infrequent bus service, if you opt for public transport, drops you near the port if you arrived via domestic flight, or it will take you approx 5-10 minutes to get to the hotel if you travel by ship from Kagoshima. Room has great view, albeit you can see the age of the rooms, corridor when compared with the modern looking lobby. The food was great, you get breakfast buffets...
Wonderful hotel on a hidden gem island, which is Yakushima. Can't say enough of the room size, its amenities and an absolutely amazing view from the balcony. The onsite restaurant boasts a very good buffet breakfast and an extensive dinner menu. I would like to highlight the ladies at the frontdesk, their genuine hospitality and guidance about travel tips, bus schedule, etc. made our stay unforgettable...
The lobby has a nasty smell, the room is retro and the facilities are old, the breakfast is good
The facilities are very old, but it is close to Miyanoura Port. The price/performance ratio is low, but it is convenient to rent clothes and shoes.
There are plenty of parking spaces. We booked a new annex with breakfast and dinner. The balcony faces the beach of Oni no Washboard. The surprise was the dinner for both nights. The Western chef has superb cooking skills and even molecular cuisine. The ingredients and taste are also top-notch. It's great, and it's very different from the ordinary dinner in the main hotel room. However, there was no...
Convenient, the hotel manager help us find an experienced local tour guide( can speak in English) for hiking.

Kisyaba Hotel, Kagoshima1 / 29

Kyushu, Kagoshima, 2 76 13 Arata 🧭 Map
I went there for work with a 2-ton box truck. This was my second time here, and although the parking lot is first-come, first-served, I was able to park. I was shown to other parking lots, but they didn't have any space for my box truck. I think a regular car would have been able to park there with ease. I think it would be great for personal use. The front desk staff were very friendly, and I had...
I booked this hotel through a major domestic online travel agency. To head to the hotel from Kagoshima-Chuo Station, if you're taking the city tram (streetcar), transfer at Gunmoto and get off at Kisaba, which is the most convenient option. You can also transfer at Takami-Baba, but you'll have to cross two crosswalks. Both routes take about 20 minutes, and if you're paying with cash, please get a transfer...
The room is very small, old, and a bit worn. The window doesn't open, and the hallway sometimes smells of cigarettes. The only problem is that the Wi-Fi connection is really bad. But the bed is quite comfortable, and for the price, the overall package is acceptable.
Located 3 minutes from Kisaba Station. Morning coffee and bread are complimentary. Low prices. Recommended for solo travelers.
It's reasonably priced and in a good location. The building is old, but it's worth the price. I'd like to stay again if I have the opportunity.
Located right at a crossroads, it was a nightmare to sleep at night because of the constant traffic. The service was good; breakfast included a cup of coffee and a bread roll. The Wi-Fi was a bit slow on the first day, probably because many people were using it, but it worked fine for the next few days after most of the neighbors checked out.

Business Kankohotel Ikeda, Nagasaki1 / 18
7.3
Kyushu, Nagasaki, 6 23 Gotomachi 🧭 Map
I made a reservation because it said breakfast was included, but the receptionist told me that there is no breakfast for stays on Sundays.
It was nice that breakfast was included and that the bus stop to the airport was nearby. However, the mirror was dirty and the room lock was a bit of a hassle as it didn't auto-lock with a key. I thought the service was good.
The location is not bad, and the price is also good. If you get a smoking room, it smells a lot. I recommend getting a non-smoking room. It is good that you can leave your key and go out.
It was my second stay and the breakfast was good.
It's an old hotel, but it's well-maintained, so the rooms are clean. You will be healed by the relaxed atmosphere of the front desk.
It takes time for reception at the front desk

Friendly English-speaking staff. Close to the airport and ferry.
Great place to go, have a room to work from.
Very nice place for backpackers. I was able to meet many new people. They have some kind of a deal with a local diving company, so when at the hostel you can book diving or snorkeling and get some percent off the price👍🏼

Kyushu, Fukuoka, 3 5 13 Kotobukicho Hakata 🧭 Map
The hotel building itself is old, so it may seem a little unclean, but it's only a 2-3 minute walk from Minami-Fukuoka Station, making it the perfect location for business travelers looking for a cheap, well-located stay.
This was my first time staying at this hotel. The room was kept clean and I had a comfortable stay. It's a hotel I'd like to stay at again.
Great hotel a couple of minutes from the train station
It's a shame that I couldn't use the large public bath. I think it would be fine if it was open until midnight.
Set up a base in the city and exercise with friends at a nearby golf course in the morning. In the afternoon, there was no problem finding restaurants and shopping nearby. It's convenient if you have a car
Maybe because it was a smoking room, it smelled like cigarettes when I turned on the air conditioner. I think the towels smelled like cigarettes too. The room was small.

The individual cabin means you don't have to worry about disturbing anyone, and it comes with a washing machine and dryer. If you didn't bring or buy detergent, you can purchase it from the front desk! The loft is quite low, so tall people should be careful not to hit their heads. You'll need to drive on some winding mountain roads, and there aren't many convenience stores nearby, so remember to buy...
The room opens directly onto the swimming pool, which the kids loved. The room has a kitchen, and the hotel provides pots and pans. We didn't have a BBQ this time, but we'll definitely go again next time. The beach is about a 10-minute drive away. Shopping nearby isn't very convenient, so we recommend buying your supplies beforehand.
The hotel's swimming pool is great, offering plenty of bubbles and floating beds for children. There are also freshwater showers by the pool, perfect for washing off the sand after a day at the beach. The hotel's container house can accommodate a family of five and comes with washing and drying facilities, a kitchen, and utensils for family use.
It was alright, the bed was a bit small, but the pool was nice and relaxing, and the staff were friendly, but the cleanliness was just so-so.
I'm very satisfied with this room. It has everything. I will consider staying here next time. It looks like a newly built area. It's very clean. There are dishes and cutlery in the kitchen cabinets. If you are missing anything, you can borrow it from the counter. It's a great place.
I am very satisfied. There is a washing machine and dryer. There is also cooking equipment for making small dishes. I enjoyed the pool and had a great holiday. I would definitely like to come again. The staff were watching over us while we were in the pool, so we could enjoy ourselves safely. Next time, I would like to have a BBQ.

A pleasant place, with a supermarket and bus stop nearby. Delicious breakfast. A small suggestion would be to put kettles in each room and cups for tea/coffee. And perhaps improve the softness of the futons. I would gladly stay again. Thank you for your hospitality!

Facilities: The room is about 18 square meters, which is very friendly to friends with a lot of luggage. The bathroom and toilet are separated, and the river view is open through the window. Hygiene: The overall cleaning is very clean, but there are stains on the quilt. Environment: There is a supermarket across the street, and there is a "Kaizhou" Japanese restaurant next to it. Service: Basically...
They gave us an upgraded room (a separate spacious house). Great view of the mountain. The main building has water and a microwave. Private bathroom. Convenient sink. Of the minuses, there was no cleaning for 5 nights, towels were never changed, and you also have to take care of taking out the trash and buying bags yourself. The air conditioner jams. Conveniently, the stop is a 30-second walk from...
The staff are very nice and the food is very good!
The rice looked delicious so I added breakfast. A choice without regrets The large public bath was small but had everything you needed, but the sauna was not operating due to the coronavirus. It is a good choice as it has a friendly owner, convenient parking, and a supermarket right in front. However, due to the nature of Yakushima, where it rains a lot, it would be good to have a tool to dry hiking...

HOTEL ORIGO HAKATA - Gion -, Fukuoka1 / 11
9.0
Kyushu, Fukuoka, 2-31 Gionmachi, Hakata Ward 🧭 Map
I was impressed right from check-in. You input your details on an iPad, then a staff member explains the house rules via video call using an interpreter device. In Japan's bustling cities, space is a premium, so while 10 tatami mats (about 16 sqm) isn't huge, the bed is comfortable and the room is clean. It's small but has everything you need, including disposable makeup remover, toner, and lotion...
It’s cheap and worth everything. We enjoyed ourselves as it’s a quiet area too. The only down part was the lack of amenities such as water dispenser, laundry services and others that a pantry should have. So, kindly prepare everything yourselves. I’ll still recommend it! ☺️
The facilities were clean and the bed was spacious, which I really liked. The bathroom was also spotless, and it even had a bidet! They provided a hairdryer, curling iron, toothbrush and toothpaste (two sets!), and plenty of towels. Having all these amenities really helped me pack lighter. However, because the bed was so big, the rest of the living space felt a bit cramped. It was a little tight...
The lighting was a bit dim, which felt a little stifling for us Koreans. The water pressure was weak and it was hard to control the water temperature. However, for Japan, it was quite spacious, which was really great! It was also clean. I think it would be good for a group of 4 friends. And I almost forgot to check out, so I had to go back to the 2nd floor to press the check-out button, haha.
Check-in was a bit tricky, but I was truly satisfied with the accommodation! The temperature was just right, so I slept well! This was a great place!
The facilities are okay, but the location is a bit hard to find, and the soundproofing is terrible. The building vibrates! My upstairs neighbors' noise at home feels like a blessing in comparison. I guess it's a good thing my own house is better now.

The place is a bit remoted. You need to perform self check in.
Great value for money during the off-season. The room was a partial sea view. It's inconvenient if you don't have a car.
The room looked clean, but when I walked over to the tatami area, I was surprised to see hair, sand, and dust all over the floor. After a closer look, I could only describe how dusty, sandy, and hairy it was! I couldn't believe it... I even wiped the floor and dusted the pillows before I could finally rest. I wouldn't stay here again.
There were plenty of parking spaces. Check-in was self-service, and the people ahead of us usually took about ten minutes to check in. We waited for half an hour before it was our turn. The terrace didn't have flooring, which was a bit shabby. The room was fairly clean.
Although the location is a bit remote, it is a good place to take a break...
This hotel is great, with a good location and a reasonable price. It is definitely worth it. The breakfast is also very rich. The bathrooms are separate and have a disinfection system. The family stayed for two nights and everyone was very satisfied

There is an elevator, but it feels a little cold in the winter. The main dishes were squid and steamed raw abalone. Parking is free across the street, and only cash is accepted.
There is a famous sushi restaurant in the town near Karatsu Castle that requires reservations.
Very good sashimi and meals. Very friendly ryokan. Will highly recommend to friends.
We stayed at this ryokan in early November 2021, when the fourth wave of COVID 19 was rapidly subsiding. It was pouring when we arrived at the ryokan in Karatsu, close to the castle and facing the beach. I’ve stayed in many hostels around the world, and this one is one of my favourites. So comfortable and cosy. I was so well rested in the female dorm and did my nomad work in the comfy common area. I booked an additional 2 nights because I loved it so much. Kind and friendly staff. Very clean. Simply exquisite
Parking 500 for night. Aftert two night 300 per night. Good, clean Rooms.
The hotel is conveniently located near a bus stop (Dainaka Station, served by bus route 120) and Nago Fishing Port, making it easy to get to Naha. Great location near the shuttle bus stop and beaches. Friendly staff and nice common areas
I stayed here the night before participating in a marathon held in Nago City. The dining room and refrigerator are shared. The beds are also bunk beds. There were no major issues, and it's perfectly fine for just sleeping.
A good value for money hostel, clean and comfortable. There's plenty of space in the living room and kitchen. The location is good, lots of restaurants nearby. Thankfully I didn't run into any problems but there is only one shower on the top floor shared by the women's dorm (4 beds) and two private rooms.

Kyushu, Fukuoka, 2-11-23 Daimyo Chuo 🧭 Map
Of the three hotels I stayed at during my trip to Fukuoka, Kumamoto, and Kagoshima, this one was slightly worse. I didn't choose this hotel myself, and I probably wouldn't stay here again if I had the choice. The room being small isn't a surprise, that's typical for Japan. However, the duvet not having a cover, just a sheet separating it, was really off-putting.
The hotel is conveniently located in the Tenjin commercial district, with plenty of ramen shops, convenience stores, and Yoshinoya nearby, making dining very easy. The facilities are quite new, and it offers good value for money.
Excellent, truly excellent! Great location and proper service! This Hong Kong hotel is conveniently located near an MTR station and shopping malls, making transportation very accessible. The room was clean and comfortable, with full amenities. The staff were friendly and efficient, making for an overall good experience. Definitely recommended!
The hotel is located in the city center, about a 10-minute walk from the subway station, making it very convenient for transportation. The room isn't huge, but it perfectly accommodates a family of four (two adults, two children). It also comes with a microwave and a refrigerator, which is really great for families.
Good n clean nice location to go tenjin or hakata by walking also very convenient to travel from airport
The hotel's location is excellent, and the front desk staff are professional and enthusiastic, especially when it comes to luggage storage. It's very reliable; I felt completely at ease leaving my newly purchased luxury bags there. I'll definitely choose this hotel again next time.

Guesthouse situated in central Miyanoura. The rooms are on the 3rd floor, above the Iwakawa fishing shop. You check in in the shop, you can also leave luggage here. The room was bigger than I expected and the location was good. It was quiet and good for stargazing at night.
I thought it would be somewhat uncomfortable because it was a guesthouse, but it was a newly renovated building, so it was very clean, and the travelers were well-mannered, so I felt good during my stay. It was a tatami room.
Great budget accomodation in Miyanoura! The staff/worker downstairs in the shop is super friendly, helped me break down my larger bills into smaller ones multiple times, and enthusiastically greeted me every time I saw him. The room was quite spacious and clean, and very affordable. Although, you'd want to bring ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones, as the soundproofing is quite poor/walls are...
Very nice team, great location, comfortable and traditional rooms, shared kitchen where you can get to know fellow travelers and very clean. Would happily come back.
The boss has several B&Bs with similar locations but different types. The one I booked this time is a fairly new one. It has clean and good sanitary facilities and I saw many Western guests staying there. The B&B has shared bathing and toilets but they are very clean. It takes about fifteen minutes to walk to Ura Port, the most prosperous port in Yakushima.

We very much enjoyed our stay. The location was amazing right across from a beach and next to a diving school where we went daily. The room was very clean and they gave local recommendations and interesting sights to visit. The shampoo bar was definitely a plus and was new to us. Everyone was super helpful and supportive!
Across the street from a beautiful beach, convenience, store, close free loaner bicycles excellent fresh ground coffee in the lobby along with other refreshments, clean comfortable rooms off the main hwy. Snorkeling and easy parking :)
The room was spacious and comfortable, we got fresh towels every day. Free drinks in the lobby, free bike rental available, free laundry. Beach was also near. Really good deal, would stay again here.
If there was a small lamp in the room this would be a rare 6*/5. Unlimited Shikuwasa Fanta, bikes to borrow and 2 minutes from the beach. Nothing else a person should want in life.

The location was really good. It was also nice that the room had a view of downtown Fukuoka, and it was close to 7-Eleven and the subway station, which was nice. It was especially close to Kaldi👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻, so it was even better. The bathroom was a bit small, but the room was big, so it was something I could get over.

The cleaning staff was horrible.
Cleanliness, friendliness, quietness, and location were all great. I plan to visit again!

Kyushu, Kirishima, 210 5 Shintomicho Kajiki Cho Aira Shi Kagoshima 89 🧭 Map
Located near Kajiki IC, this may be the only business hotel in Kajiki Town. With just over 50 rooms, it's easy to make a reservation. However, there is no elevator and there are many steps, so it may be difficult to access if you have large carry-on bags or are in a wheelchair.
I accidentally reserved a smoking room, but they changed it to a non-smoking room on the day, which I'm grateful for. There's a convenience store and drugstore nearby, and an izakaya about 1km away. Breakfast is served at the attached Joyfull. This is a perfectly fine business hotel.
I used this hotel when I had a drinking party in Aira. My companion uses it regularly, and this time we stayed overnight. I think the rooms are nice and cozy. What I liked most was that breakfast was served at the Joyful restaurant attached to the hotel. I went out briefly this time, but since it's directly connected to the hotel, it would be good on rainy days too.
There's nothing nearby. If you're staying by public transport, your only option is to eat at Joyfull. Also, there's no elevator, so you have to carry your suitcases by hand. I chose a smoking room, but even so, the smell was strong. I've written a lot, but If you're staying here on a business trip rather than on vacation, the front desk service is not bad, it's cheap, and I think you can accept that

I had a lovely time here. The cabin was clean and the personal onsen was very relaxing.
Date visited: end June 2025 Fabulous room. A spacious living room, fully equipped kitchen with utensils and cutlery, bowls etc. a small electric oven, microwave oven and a big fridge. Best of all, it comes with a private outdoor onsen! Wow! A patio for you to bbq and I saw maple trees beside the patio and would imagine nice views during autumn. Sleeping in attic and you could sleep in the living room...
We stayed in one of the cabins with private indoor and outdoor onsen. We loved it! It was our first onsen experience in Japan, but certainly not the last. We also checked out the public indoor and outdoor onsen but as we were traveling with small kids, we mainly opted for the private bath. The cottage was spacious and modern with a well equiped kitchen and we also liked the BBQ set. Will definately...
The private bath outside was a perfect onsen temperature and the place was clean and comfortable. Very pleased that I booked our stay here. The parking space outside our house allowed our car rental to fit adequately.
Amazing hut in the forest with private and public onsen Best value for money you can get Option for yakiniku/sukiyaki set is great and recommend too To bad i was there only for 1 night 🤣
We rented a cabin with a private onsen. We were very happy with our private cabin and could use the onsen any time after visiting all the beautiful nature around the onsen. One of the best experiences in Japan so far in combination with hiking on Mt. Aso

The hotel offers shuttle service and has a good location. There are 24-hour Don Quijote and MaxValue nearby. The hotel itself also seems to offer car rental services.
