San Francisco, 310 Columbus Avenue (45 min from centre) 🧭 Map
For the price of the hotel, the location is very convenient as it is located between the intersection of North Beach and Chinatown, making it very accessible to nearby attractions. However, there was no AC in the hotel, and it was really difficult for me to even sleep at night due to the heat. I was told that it would be a room with a window, but the window only opened to a closed wall. When going...
This place was super hard to find, and the front desk says 24 hours, but it is not. We slept in our car on the street the first night because we didn’t arrive until 2 am, so that was not pleasant. The rooms themselves are very small and have old appliances in them. They were clean however, and the front door is locked at all times; only able to access it using your keycard. The front desk staff were...
This is my go to when I stay in the city. Reason, its located on Columbus & Broadway St. Thats the base of North Beach which is also my favorite place. You have Washington Square, little Italy, food, food, food and not to mention clubs. Great place and HIGHLY recommend for the price you can't beat in San Francisco.. And as far as safety SFPD has main sub station near buy so crime is very, very low if...
You get what you pay for - for 69$ a night (via booking.com) this is reasonable but couple of things that you need to keep in mind:
1) When you enter the hotel stair, it smells like old onions in the staircase (further up it's good)
2) When you enter the room, it smells like urine (there is a sink in the room so I am afraid previous guests used it as a toilet). After six days of opened windows this...
The location is convenient, with bus route 8 right outside, making it easy to watch the New Year's Eve fireworks. It's about a 20-minute walk to Pier 7 by the sea. Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square are also within easy walking distance.

THIRD-PARTY BOOKING
I booked Europa through my credit card portal to accumulate/maximize points. Europa's front desk could retrieve my reservation so there were no problems there.

For late Oct of 2025, we paid $95/night for One Bed Private Room en suite Bathroom. I can't recall the prices of the dorms, but they would definitely be cheaper. The price is considered fair given its...

The best location in the heart of Little Italy!
Manager Vince was incredibly kind and assisted us with all our needs, and Macy was also wonderful…will definitely return!
Great location within walking distance of everything. Clean, comfortable, and affordable compared with other nearby hotels. The staff is friendly and the overall experience was excellent.
Loved this place!! Clean, quiet, respectful. For sharing a bathroom and shower, we never had to wait and having our room right across the hall made it feel like ours almost. Great view of China Town dragon gate entry, art studios, French cafes. Fabulous location, can walk almost anywhere or take a bus. Very helpful staff... !
Rooms do NOT all come with a mini fridge. You have to make sure there...
This place is clean and decent for the price. The cons would be that the room is a little stuffy. You can open the window but as some reviews have said the street is pretty noisy. However, they do provide you with a fan. I personally think that the restroom and the shower don’t have a good ventilation, but my top priority is cleanliness (which meets my standard for the given price point) so it can...
Good value for the affordable price. Rooms were simple but clean. Staff at the front desk were efficient and helpful. There are plenty of bathrooms so I never had to wait. Shared spaces(bathroom, showers, etc) looked very clean throughout my stay. I saw someone in charge refuse to allow a guest to stay in a less than completely clean room, which suggests they do care about cleanliness and their guests...
I admit to having reserved a one night stay for myself with very low expectations, given the location and inexpensive rate. I was pleasantly surprised by what I found - the small room was comfortable, relatively quiet, and spotless. I'd definitely return.

Good hotel, just not for me. No A/C, and not many options for breakfast compared to other hotels with similar price.
Such a cute place! Everything was very clean and service was great. The wine/snacks complimentary happy hour every evening was such a lovely addition to our stay! (Francisco is absolutely wonderful!) location is safe and great for walking to many locations. We enjoyed our time here.
Very cozy feel. The fireplace was especially great in the rainy season. The decor was super fun and the staff was very friendly
Beautiful parlor for breakfast and lounging by a fireplace, plus a fireplace in the room. Staff helpful and courteous. Very old school San Francisco and reminiscent of an European experience.
This is an old beautiful hotel. You do go down a set of stairs to the breakfast area.Quite a variety of buffet foods. Lots of tables to sit at and separate rooms with fireplaces. Nice ambiance. They do have a patio attached which must be lovely to have breakfast on in the warmer weather. Overall quite nice.
This is an unconventional stay, right in the middle of downtown SFO, that takes you back to Victorian times.

This hotel is in a fantastic location, so convenient to the airport, the cable car, and Union Square. The friendly staff made us feel welcome, and we loved the little extras: a good coffee machine to start the day, nice toiletries, and the ability to stream our own YouTube music on the TV. A great stay!
This hotel is located near the central subway station, making it convenient for exploring downtown San Francisco. The hotel facilities are basic, but the convenience is excellent. There are many homeless people in the area, but it's generally safe.
We stayed at Hotel Bijou and loved its vintage Hollywood charm and central location. The room was cozy and comfortable, and the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. It was a great boutique stay, and we’d happily book it again.
Breakfast was included with the reservation. The only 'breakfast' provided was a muffin, a yogurt, and coffee . This cannot be called a breakfast, very disappointing.
Very loud neighbourhood at night, windows need a lot more insulation.
Hotel Bijou has the best comfortable bed. All receptionist was extremely generous, especially Chris. The location was good but there were many homeless people and trashes around. The only disadvantage of this hotel was the breakfast. Breakfast was very disappointing. But overall this hotel is great
The location is first-class, but there are too many homeless people downstairs. It's too noisy and smelly, and it's a bit unsafe. I don't dare to go out at night.

charming hotel, excellent service, great location
Perfect romantic getaway for a truly authentic San Francisco experience.
Great Location! Cozy room! Great service! Pack light do! No elevator you have to carry your bags upstairs! Its worth it!
Great stay in a charming, vintage, boutique hotel, in the heart of North Beach. The location can’t be beat.
We came to SF to celebrate our 20th anniversary in the city where we met 26 years ago. We chose this place for its unique atmosphere and convenient location. We loved everything about our stay. The staff were friendly, the room was eclectic and clean. You can’t beat the location. We will definitely be back for our next visit.
LOVED IT!!!
Absolutely loved this hotel! It was cozy, quiet, staff were exceedingly helpful and the location is the best. You can walk out the front door and have food paradise within inches…. Cafes, coffee, pastries and Italian food as good as any we’ve had in Italy!
Highly recommend!!

THE REGISTRSTION IS A LITTLE CONFUSING BECAUSE I HAD TO GO TO ANOTHER HOTEL ADDRESS TO COMPLETE THE PROCESS..
Nice, clean and comfortable hotel!
Check-in is done at another hotel, up the street. Information about this is sent. Room with shared bathroom and toilet on the floor, everything is very clean! The room is comfortable, quiet. Buses and metro are nearby! Competent staff at the reception. The airport is 35 minutes away by Bart. I liked everything, I am happy with everything.
The location is really good because it is close to Powell Station.
There is an inconvenience of checking in at the Stratford Hotel instead of the Herbert, but the staff kindly informed us.
Please note that you can check out by leaving your key in the box right next to the elevator in the lobby.
We were there 11 nights. It was not even once that they cleaned up.
It was great visiting the city of San Francisco again after 40 odd years but very depressing to see so many homeless and down and out people on the streets. Visited a couple of great diners, one just up the street from Herbert Hotel and did all the usual tourist things again!!
Location is excellent- located at the very city center that is accessible or near the famous tourist spots. However, downside is The Herbert Hotel doesn’t have a front desk; you still need to check in and out of their sister hotel - Hotel Stanford. There was this instance that my room card didn’t work so I need to go all the way their sister hotel. Rooms were clean. I recommend The Herbert Hotel! ...

When we first checked into the hotel, there was a very strong chemical smell. It was a bit difficult the first day, but thankfully, it eventually aired out and the situation improved.
Everything is great aside from the checkout. We planned to check out at 7am because we need to travel to Modesto for an appointment but the office is still closed.
Tried to check in at 3pm but room wasn't ready and had to wait another hour. Not ideal but ok as we just went for a walk around the area to familiarise ourselves.
Room was spacious and clean. Housekeeping only came on the first day but that's OK cause we hung our towels up to dry so didn't need new ones. Free parking was convenient but only limited spots available upstairs, the rest is below the building...
The exterior is slightly dated but it was being painted while we were there. Our room was spacious and updated with hardwood floors and great lighting. It was very clean and kept stocked. The bed and pillows were comfortable.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating. They let us leave our car in the parking lot and held our luggage before and after our room reservation. The location is pretty convenient since you about a 10-20 minute walk from the Marina or North Beach. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in this area.
Place was very noisy and had a funky smell. But being that it was central to everything and a good price as well as a safe area it made up for it

My favourite hotel. A few blocks away from the main square. Near amenities, super markets, bars, restaurants, cinemas, shops, buses, metro station. There are some homeless people outside the hotel but they are harmless.
The rooms are small but the bed is very large and comfortable. The room is clean.
The bathroom is bright and clean.
There is no noise because my room faces the back of the hotel.
Breakfast...
Chose to stay here because it was one of few places that had a/c at this price point.
The building is quite old and has a distinctive smell but the room was okay. Bed is nice and the bathroom is clean. Location is good too.
There are no slippers in the room nor gratuity water bottles. Breakfast is there, but not really. Coffee tastes weird and there isn't much to eat other than cereal and bananas...
Nice hotel in the heart of Union Square rooms are a bit small and the front desk is helpful
Not a 4 star hotel. But for the price, it was conveniently located. Rooms were clean and bigger than the one i had at the sir Francis Drake. Staff was friendly. And there is a parking garage RIGHT next door.
Enjoyed the hotel overall. Building was rather old but decently renovated, and had a certain charm to it. Everything seemed relatively clean. Nice modern lobby with plenty of seating to eat and relax. Free continental breakfast in the morning, and coffee, tea, and oatmeal are available 24/7, which is nice. One small complaint is that I was not able to get cell service in my room, and the hotel wi-fi...

It might have been New Year's Eve, as the room was really expensive. The hotel's atrium is uncovered, so you get rained on just by stepping outside. Breakfast was very simple: waffles, milk, oatmeal, and bread. Parking was very tight due to the New Year; we parked on the street for free, but I'm not sure if it's usually paid.
walking distance to fisherman's wharf pier 39 to watch sealions
Hotel was near a bus stop and laundromat so it was really convenient to live here! Only problem was having no lift but the front desk helped us carry our really heavy luggage up :)
The service at the front desk was excellent and the staff was very helpful. Would recommend to any one seeking a short layover.
Basic motel-style accommodation. The rooms was very clean, but on the small side. In the morning a basic breakfast is available in the lobby, consisting of coffee/juices, some cereals, cinnamon buns, pancakes and a piece a fruit.
The bed and pillows are very comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. The location is also excellent, very convenient to start your sightseeing trip.
Room is clean, location is accessible to any tourist spots. There’s lots of restaurants walking distance in the area. Reception is helpful. Wifi is fast.

Great hotel. Clean, amazing staff. Comfy beds. A lil bit noisy due to thin walls. But I’d stay again.
It was very nice, perfect for my husband and I as our son lives about a half a mile down the street. It was clean, staff was great,
Friendly staff, clean room, a light blanket that could be used in place of the too-heavy comforter, and fresh fluffy towels daily.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful - providing tips on great restaurants nearby, and giving detailed instructions on how to rent bikes and use public transit. My son loved all the chocolate truffles.
The Metro is my go to whenever I need a hotel in San Francisco. Be stayed there so many times I lost count. Never a bad experience!
Excellent one night stay.
Perfect place to stay for a solo or couple to stay for 1-3 nights. Excellent location! All kinds of restaurants and amenities within walking distance. Only drawback no elevator, rooms are up some steep stairs. Not recommended for elderly or disabled. Otherwise felt like I was staying in a charming boutique hotel in Europe.

I've stayed at the San Remo before and understand that it is a little funky, but it's affordable and in a good neighborhood. The problem this time was that they are apparently doing remodeling. Location of this hotel is great for the price! That's the only reason I may stay here again in the future. Other than that, I didn't enjoy having to share bathrooms, even though they were mostly clean and never busy. I learned later that you can book a room with a private bathroom.

Good location. Less than 5 minutes from Fisherman's Wharf. No problem with food. I rented a bike near Pier 39 and went to Oracle Park to watch a baseball game.

We had a great stay here, others have mentioned the temperature but we were very comfortable (outside temps were in the 50s). Location for us was perfect, close to everything we needed.
Convenient for downtown. Several public transport lines are very close, so connections are good. The accommodation is basic but clean. No central heating, just a small fan heater, so if you're OK with the noise, it's fine. No in-room safe or coffee. WiFi works just fine. Very limited number of electrical sockets in the room. The lift in ancient, but it does work.
I had a good stay at Edwardian. Understand what you are booking- no frills space to sleep. The hotel is on Market street, it's a loud spot. The building is older so expect there to be gaps where sound is going to get through. Aside from that, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom nice and spacious. All considered, I was happy with my stay here.
I travel to UCSF every three weeks and stay at the Edwardian, which I prefer after trying several hotels. There is no tea or tea making facilities. Be great if they took that off their website (tea needs boiling water, not coffee maker hot water).
Room smelled a little like... dog? or damp? But it was clean and comfy.
A good value. Close to most major transportation and particularly convenient for quick access to expressway. Inexpensive--most nights all included can be gotten for $100 or less. Quieter than most in the area. Feels safer than nearby inexpensive hotels. Security fence makes parking lot feel a lot safer.
The inn's location and price point make it an ideal home base for exploring the San Francisco city/tourism core.
Rooms could be cleaner (we saw a cockroach crawling around on the carpet floor into behind the fridge).
Door lock malfunctioned, but when asked they attended to it rather quickly. They replaced it. That's good.
When asked, service was provided. That's good.
Contrary to what was portrayed...
Didn't like the day service lady's attitude about paper receipts and having to wait 3 business days for my deposit to go back into my account. Despite that; this is one of the better decent price places to stay in San Francisco. I would still recommend!
This hotel is always featured on the big name hotel booking sites and typically the rooms can get down to 50% of the original price
Great for a cheap stay with moderate amenities but there are more exciting places in better locations in San Francisco.
If you are local to the area and need a reasonably priced clean place to say then this is for you

Was nice, never usually stay at a motel but it was better than some hotels I've stayed at. The beds were pretty comfortable as well and the only downside was that there wasn't some bottled water or coffee.
Room was very clean. The bedding was really clean and fresh. Good size room. Small facility so is was quiet.
I will definitely stay here again.

No housekeeping and no maintenance on site means a simple request takes forever and no guarantee a human will see it
The room was spotless, the design and finishes were fantastic, and it was a peaceful escape from the busy streets of Castro in San Francisco. The staff were super helpful and got back to me quickly. ******* had a $34 food credit on my reservation, but the hotel couldn’t use it, so the staff mentioned they’re looking into a refund.
Check in was difficult because we didn’t get a link sent, so we had to text “Kasa” and wait. The ID process seemed overly detailed and invasive (on privacy). I hope the data I had to upload will be deleted. The room was fine, if small. TV in main area kept turning off.
The room is good. Since check in is virtual, I wasn’t able get the $34 ******* food and beverage credit for silver status that was part of the offer.
Beautiful and comfortable
It’s a beautiful, modern room. Quiet and cosy. The bed was very comfortable. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby.
Though this hotel room was significantly smaller than expected, it was well appointed, safe, super clean, and in an amazing location. You can't really beat the location. I appreciated the no hassle check-in process, and I really liked the virtual front desk. I'd definitely stay here again.
