The room had a very strange smell. It wasn’t possible to open the window but even so there was a loud fan outside. There was a connecting door to the room next door, which allowed every noise from the guests next door to come through, even just their simple movements. I asked to switch but they were full. The shared bathroom was old and a bit gross.
Guests seemed to sit on a chair that was right...
Had a great stay at the Hayes Valley Inn. The location couldn't be more perfect, and I was impressed with how clean the rooms were. The toilet and shower was separate from the room like a hostel, but I never ran into any issues with them being full. I can understand that the key system is a bit confusing with using the phone app to unlock your door, but the front desk was prompt and kindly offered...
Simple hotel with great location. The room was very clean, and new, and the shared bathroom was as clean as it can be (usually depends more on the guests who are sharing it, and we unfortunately had a pair of young women who didn't really care about leaving their hairs all over everything). The bed was squeaky but otherwise comfortable for the price range.
The breakfast was great, the kitchen area...
Put mom up there and it was awsome
I really recommend this hotel, extremely nice and helpful service, it's clean and the breakfast is really good.
The staff is really helpful, they help you store your baggage if you arrive before the check in, and they will help you order a shuttle bus to the airport, and if your plane is late at night they will help you store your baggage from check out till the shuttle bus arrives.
I can only recommend...
At first we were a bit hesitant when we arrived and had to wait to check in (a bit after 3), and then were given directions to the annex. However, the room is very clean and quiet, there is a nice continental breakfast and afternoon tea, and the cost is relatively good! The public transportation is right outside the door and easy to use. We have had a great stay!

Everything was exactly as promised. If you are staying a hostel you don't expect luxury. The beds are incredibly uncomfortable, but if all you need to do is sleep, it works. The staff is nice and friendly, the bathrooms are small but work. If you dont need luxury and are just looking for q lace to stay this place is great.
Staff and people are super nice.
It's not in the best area of town and it wasn't the cleanest place ever, but definitely adequate and good for the price. Plus you will meet other great travelers around pancake breakfast that you have the option of having in the morning (cook your own).
Overall, positive experience with a few caveats if you are sensitive to cleanliness and the Tenderloin district...
For value, it's the best choice. The 4 bed room I stayed in was small, but had a working bathroom and was clean. Staff made sure my group was enjoying our stay, helped if we had questions, and were all around very knowledgeable about the city. The hostel also has free beer every night and a killer basement/hangout area with a dancefloor, poker table, and beer pong table. The only thing I disliked was...

If I see all the reviews I’m wondering why those people picked a cheap hotel in San Francisco? Because they’re talking like they expected a five-star-hotel. Okay, the neighborhood is not cool, but it’s fine. Nothing to worry about. You can almost walk to
all the nicest places in San Francisco, so it’s located well. The rooms are okay, the sharing bathroom is okay. So when your budget is low, this will...

Visited here few days ago with my family. Pretty surprised this place got this many bad ratings!!!! The neighborhood this hotel is in is Mediocre Bad (I can say that because I've lived in pretty trashy neighborhood in NY). But the hotel is Gated and secured so it felt pretty safe. Nice, well-maintained hotel
Nice quaint hotel in the Civic Center area of San Francisco. Well maintained and charming. Older building, but renovated recently so all amenities are in good condition. Location is good, which is always a wild card in SF from block to block.
Quaint inn right in the midst of the Civic Center
Quaint inn located right in the midst of the Civic Center, but just enough away as to be quiet.
Our room was hot and stuffy so we had to open the window which let in the noise from the outside. The hotel is located a couple blocks from the shops and restaurants at Hayes Valley which was nice. It was very walkable from the BART civic center station.
Enjoyed the atmosphere of this inn. Very cute and decorated nicely. Love the ballet theme on our room.
Everything was close by and it was very nice pleasant stay
Very convenient location with many restaurants within g easy walking distance. My room was clean and comfortable bed!

Convenient, fast and clean. 🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙🚙
Living on 49th Street in Manhattan, you can go everywhere quickly, very satisfied
Facilities: Not bad, quite new, there is no elevator on the third floor
Hygiene: It is a public bathroom, but it is very clean
Environment: The hotel is very bright, next to a supermarket, shopping is very convenient
Service: The people at the front desk are very nice and communicate well, with free breakfast and water
Hotel that is near Market. Lots of homeless and cr*ck ad**icts around. Keep your eyes on your belongings.
Hotel located at downtown but can be distance away from tourist destinations. Nonetheless there is a metro station within walking distance
Can meet basic accommodation needs
When I arrived on the first day, there were still seven or eight hours before the scheduled check-in time, but because of the heavy rain, I wanted to try my luck, and the counter staff were very nice and allowed me to check in early

The location is very convenient.
The room was cold, the heater was extremely noisy and unusable, and there weren't even blankets, only sheets. When we asked for sheets again for both beds, we were told there was only one sheet available. The service was poor.
The room had a very 90s American feel 🤣, but the facilities were all okay and the cleanliness was good. The receptionist seemed to be Mexican, and was very friendly, helping me park and giving us directions. The location was also good, within walking distance of the pier or Lombard Street.
The staff who greeted us were so kind, I just wanted to repay them with a positive review. The location is convenient for walking to Lombard Street, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Parking is free! We were able to extend our stay for a few hours after checkout. The room was also very comfortable, and the large sofa made breakfast a comfortable experience!
The hotel is a bit old, but not old. The air conditioning is sharp, but the disadvantage is that there is no refrigerator and microwave.
Parking is free and the location is convenient for city walk.
You can also store it after checking out.
The main advantage is free parking, though the environment is just so-so. Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown are within walking distance – the location is decent. We checked out at 11 am and they agreed to let us park until 2 pm, but they wouldn't store our luggage, saying they were out of space and we should leave it in the car. When asked if it was safe, they said they were there and there were security...

No one at the desk for check in with several people waiting. No microwave. Paper thin walls. Room was decently clean. Community areas are a bit dirty. Great location.
Great location
Super near to Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 33 boat to Alcatraz island.
There is seven eleven near hotel.
Inside the bedroom really clean
Outside need to be renovated
The hotel was in the center of Fishermans wharf. 400 ft and you are right there
Location is great for visiting the pier - but if you want to do anything downtown - it’s quite far away. Handy to have a 7-11 across the road. No laundry facility, but the daily housekeeping was nice. Staff are friendly too. Room is super old - definitely need a refresh.
Super convenient location, very clean and spacious room, free parking inside
Not bad Not good on average location is near to pier 39 but the convenient store the opposite of the place so is scary

The hotel is conveniently located near BART and MUN, and just steps from the city hall. The facilities are old, but for the price, it's acceptable.
The soundproofing in the rooms is terrible; you can hear people walking upstairs clearly.
The room I was given the first night was the worst one imaginable, but the room I got the next day was much better!
Perfect for solo travelers who want to come...
the location is okay, the room is not clean as expected but overall its suitable for budget trip

The hotel is quite dated and feels dirty (even though it's clean). The Tenderloin area was something to avoid a couple of years ago. Now, it's not one of the best, but it's not too bad, and it's close to downtown and well-connected. For the price, I would stay at the hotel again.
My kids enjoyed their stay. So clean and the beds are so comfortable.

Most people wouldn't give five stars, but if you don't mind outdated fixtures and decor, then this place is for you. It met all our needs. There's a secure parking garage included in the rate! Huge for SF! The nightly rate itself was absolutely reasonable and a great deal overall. There is a patio area where you can get enjoy some secluded outdoor time. Bed was comfortable, pillows were a bit flat...
Going in we had really low expectations so were surprised to find the room clean and comfortable. The hotel is severely out of date and there are quirks like the minature sink and odd soap. The free parking is fabulous. We didn't have to move the car once we got here so didn't have to wait to buzzed in or out. Overall if we were only coming in for one night we would stay here again.
It might not look nice but it has everything! 50mb internet speed netflix, roku, great bed, shower, excellent location near van ness avenue, near japan town and lots of restaurants near by
Very clean and simple. It has a 1970s feel to it and I was very comfortable there. Love the 12pm check-out time. The price is a little bit more than I like to spend, but I wasn't too mad about it.
A lovely little Oasis near the top of Cathedral Hill. Definitely more of a motel than a hotel. Clean room with fast Internet, nice little bathtub, a view of the rooftops next door. Apparently has free parking, amazingly enough. Close to City Hall and the Opera/Ballet, but if you walk it's up a steep hill. The neighborhood is okay, but (like much of SF) there is fresh smashed car window on the streets...
This was a great find. We were staying in SF for an opera and found Oasis. It is within walking distance of the War Memorial Opera House. It's also reasonably priced given this. We got a single king bed which was comfortable enough. The mattress was springs, but we didn't mind. It's a reasonably good value for the price. However, I don't think I'll stay here again.
I had booked a single deluxe room; it was very spacious and I loved how there was hanging space and plenty of drawers. The overall price/performance ratio is good
As the reviews said, the street where the hotel is located is indeed full of homeless people and people who seem to be doing *****. It's not a very safe place, but it's just a little way off the main street where a lot of people come and go in San Francisco, so I was totally fine. The Layne Hotel is very clean and well maintained. Randy and all his staff are very professional and friendly.
Very quiet, charming little boutique Hotel located 2.5 blocks from Union Square and Macys etc.
I had a fabulously relaxing stay and would definetly return in future. Wi-fi included. Many shops, stores, restaurants in walking distance as well.
Let's be clear:
This hotel is at the border of the Union Square district (touristy) and the Tenderloin district (super sketchy, don't go there). There are drug addicts and homeless people in the streets, and the streets are dirty.
Does that means that this reflects on the hostel services? No.
The personnel is sweet and caring. They advised itineraries and streets to avoid without me asking. There...
You cant beat this price in central San Fransisco and the classic SF style architecture.. The rooms are nicely sized and clean with regular house keeping. Vibrant and welcoming entry up a flight of elegant wood trim stairs. A stark contrast to the front desk staff. We waited first for her to arrive and then even longer for her to figure out the reservation. Best,
Nice rooms excellent value and location!! General Manager Megan was extremely kind, courteous and helpful.. will definitely book this hotel again!!!
The most warm and kind staff at a perfectly situated location.
Easy transportation to the entire city, rooms with just enough space to unpack and relax and two communal rooms to work, hang out, do laundry or prep food.
Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a great value in San Francisco.

This is a one star hotel apparently.. it’s a little dated but man I’m glad we took the chance with it. So clean and comfortable. Staff were super helpful with our weird check in and out times and helping arrange transport. Awesome location for what we needed. Definitely book here again
The room was incredibly affordable ($520 for 6 nights) especially for the area. The hotel is very close to everything, and it was very easy to access public transit. The room was big enough, and came with a microwave, TV, a desk, & a private bathroom. The shower is super snazzy and nice. There were a few roaches in my room (I counted eleven during my six night stay), but the room itself was clean....
Great location, pretty close to most things in downtown San Francisco so walking definitely helps save money on transportation. Our room was available earlier in the door which helped enormously when we just landed and need to freshen up and drop off our things. Staff is pretty friendly. The room is nice, there's a sink which is convenient and clean bathrooms. Highly recommend!
Good place to stay for a few days in SF, shared bathroom but nice zone, the cable car is right outside
Really cool 111 year old building with an antique elevator. Big flat screen TV in rooms. Great location and awesome staff. Steve was very helpful and accommodating. Great no frills hotel to stay at for a convention or a short getaway to SF. Definitely recommend to others and would stay here again.
Paper thin walls, shared bathrooms/showers, unenforced quiet hours, views into other people's rooms, street noise… if you're planning on sleeping here bring sleep aid and a mask so the light-allowing blinds don't wake you. Great location in North Beach. Only issue was starting construction at 8;00 am Sunday morning, sawing and hammering
I would stay at the Washington Inn again. The location is superb, a block or two from the heart of North Beach, but it was completely quiet at night. The price was very good for SF. However, you should know that the hotel is pretty rough around the edges. Shower handle a bit funky, carpet very worn in spots, aging tiles, mattress hardly in its first youth (but we slept well). If you want the bathroom...
Unclear of how the hotel has 8/10 other than amazing location! Beware when booking that the photos taken give the illusion of a standard room but the reality was an extremely cramped tiny room with very interesting toilet and shower. There are no lifts in the building either so be mindful when booking that you’ll need to heave you suitcases up flights of stairs
It’s an older building difficulty with parking. No elevator upstairs. Could you some maintenance. But with all of that considered and in mind, the convenience to everything was difficult to beat.
The property is located in a very safe and eye appealing location. The hotel is a throwback to the 60's. The ONLY thing that has to change - the carpet. I stayed in 2 rooms, and I had several work mates with me. We all stated the same - the carpet was filthy. Bathrooms were clean, beds were very nice and the rooms are on the smaller side...but the location suited our needs.
Convenient location. Lots of Italian restaurants. Walking distance to Chinatown and the Financial District and the coast. Housekeeping is very helpful. Room is a bit small and cramped. There is no air conditioning. Walls have signs of water damage. Bathroom ceiling and walls have mold.

The place is great when it comes to helpful staff such as Serghei, Irene, and Bruce.... But Catherine(The Owner's name) makes it a miserable occasion to be a part of. This is an odd little hotel; I think you need reservations before coming to the door. It's hard to find the door, and to check in you need to leave a voicemail. I would describe the accommodations as being similar to a hostel but with private bunk rooms. If you're on a budget and don't need amenities, this is a good choice for a weekend. It is not, however, luxurious.
