The White House Peace Vigil, a longstanding peace protest, is just 478 meters from the hotel. Nearby dining options include The Oceanaire Seafood Room and Del Frisco's Grille, both under 300 meters away, and a Subway restaurant about 305 meters from the property. The hotel’s central position allows easy access to downtown Washington and major attractions such as the White House and Congress.
Tips

Reviews
Check-in felt unwelcoming, and we were assigned a room facing the rear yard with a connecting door, despite noting we were a couple celebrating a special occasion. There was no acknowledgment of our anniversary (not even a card). The connecting room caused significant noise issues, including being woken by the neighboring guest’s alarm, making it feel like we were in the same room.
When we asked to move rooms, we were told the hotel was full, although rooms appeared available online. After contacting Marriott chat, a manager apologized and promised to handle the issue, but when we returned to the desk, the situation was not documented and we had to explain everything again. We were eventually moved to a non-connecting room with a street view — not an upgrade, but a more reasonable assignment.
No follow-up was done after the room change, and checkout felt rushed with no inquiry about our stay.
Positives: excellent location, and the bell staff and housekeeping were friendly and professional.
Negatives: dark and gloomy rooms, limited amenities, lack of attention to detail, and service that did not feel aligned with JW Marriott luxury standards. Suitable for a short business stay, but disappointing for a vacation or celebration.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
My stay at the JW Marriott Washington, DC was truly exceptional! From the moment I arrived, the service provided by the entire team—including the reception, the concierge/doormen, and the housekeeping staff—was outstanding.
It is absolutely worth it to become an Elite Member; the perks and recognition elevate the entire experience.
I also highly recommend the breakfast. It is the quintessential, perfect American breakfast, offering a wide variety of delicious options.
A huge thank you to the entire hotel team for making my visit so memorable. The hotel is also perfectly located; you can easily walk everywhere and explore all the main tourist attractions nearby.
I will definitely be back and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Washington, DC!
The conference I attended was well organized and the staff dedicated to that experience were great. The stay itself? Yikes. No hair dryer to be found, no fan in the bathroom, the walls are paper thin, my digital key took 5-6 swipes each time I wanted to enter my room (validated this with 3 different keys), the wifi is slower than molasses (and isn’t free unless you’re a marriott member!), the room service food is atrociously bad yet expensive, and the ordering website stopped working for two of the days I was here. The front desk staff treat you like you’re an inconvenience to them (at least the ones I interacted with), and the ‘market’ is disgustingly overpriced - I paid $6 for a cold water bottle.
I would, however, like to give a special shout-out to the rest of the staff. The security and door folks in the lobby, the food and service staff at the conference, Fredy at the shoe shine, the housekeeping team - these are the people who made this stay enjoyable. Don’t ever lose them, they’re the only thing that made my stay a pleasant one.
I know I may receive a generic response from the manager to my review - don’t bother. I recommend folks look for other places to stay in DC. There are plenty of other hotels that offer much nicer amenities and experiences for the same price.
I paid for the early check-in option through the official website (150 dollars), but when I asked when I checked in, they said it wasn't guaranteed..? I was embarrassed because it was different from what they said on the official website, and I just wasted my money...? I think it would be good for others to do their research carefully.
Still, the hotel's location is very, very good, so it's great for walking around the National Mall. Most of the restaurants that come up when you search on DC are located nearby.
